    A few questions, have you ever had the clay come off the wheel in a race? and what about the balance between all the wheels/tires? Should they all weigh the same after being balanced and glued? or is it too little of a difference usually?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 3 lety +1

      I haven't had the balancing clay come out during a race. The difference is weight is so little that it won't be noticeable.

    Any chance I would have to balance multiple spots on a tire with an aggressive tread? I've got one tire that just won't balance

    Great video! But is there something super unfancy one could use instead of special clay(s) or lead tape or similar? I mean something everybody has somewhere in their house?

      You could glue anything in there if you like. :)

      Remove front wheel of 2wd vehicle, obviously the bearing has to be as free as possible. There you have tool. As clay you can loctite kintsuglue etc. Hardware stores sell it.

    Why would you glue the foam to the rim? How would it change the characteristics of the tire?

    Does the clay dry out throughout the race day? Does it chip or flake causing the tire to become unbalanced again?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 5 lety

      With the clay I use, it stays soft and doesn't change or fall out during a run.

  • @billbarberconstructioninc.17

    Let us know what clay you use and where we can buy. Great vid

    Hello mr. Drake just wondering why you are putting the air holes back in the center of tire I been putting them on the sides near the outside just about on sidewalk you told me this when you&your wife came to rcexcitement when the lockdowns where the tire just wondering if I should go back to the middle

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 5 lety

      Hello Robert,
      There isn't really a difference in performance. With the holes in the center it's a little easier for and dust and dirt to escape, but it's also easier for dirt and dust to get into the tire.

  • @TK_Mo
    @TK_Mo Před 5 lety

    I have a question. Why do you and many others apply the putty or weight up against the rim spokes? Would you want to place it near center? Does it make a difference or am I overthinking it?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 5 lety +1

      When it's closer to the outer face of the wheel there's less chance of it moving or getting knocked out of place.

    • @TK_Mo

      @@AdamDrakethank you for the reply. That makes sense, particularly when using a clay. My plan is to use plumbers clay, remove the clay then replace the weight of the clay with lead tape. My thinking is related to automotive tires where both sides of the tire are balanced. We, or at least I, do not have nor need that technical of a tool but my thinking was that all the weight would be on the outer side of the rim. Does my thinking have OCD tendencies or is there logic behind it?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, that makes sense. I think for R/C tires and how fast we burn the pins off, whatever is simple and works best for you.

    I've run proline and aka wheels and tires. Even with perfect gluing they still need balancing. If you rev your ride on the starter box the wheels will shake they need balancing every time.

    • @AdamDrake

      The PL tires are pretty good, but sometimes balancing is helpful.

    Hi can you tell me how would I know which one is the front and the rear because they have different depths in middle of rim?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 4 lety +1

      In 1/8th we use the same front and rear. With other vehicles the wider wheel goes in the rear.

    Have you noticed a big handling change on buggy tires or mostly just truggy? I'm guessing kinda pointless for sct and 1/10 buggy/st tires.

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 3 lety

      It just depends if they're way out of balance. With most PL tires the balance is really good.

    I always balance mine. Even tenth scale ones. It just makes sense to not have unbalanced tires shaking your car apart. Try this. put a set of unbalanced tires on your car. Hold it up and full throttle it. Then balance and try again. Big difference.

    Yeah, just like a real car. If you're wheels are unbalance on you're real vehicle it wouldn't be fun to drive and it does wear out you're parts quicker like a real car. I would want my wheels perfectly balanced. That vibration might damage your servo.

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Před 5 lety

      Correct, it's bad if your tires are out of balance.
