Thanks for watching everybody, this is an important part of my peoples culture and may not be for everybody. Hunting is graphic in nature and butchering animals for food is a necessary part of our lives.
Glad to see you were blessed with more caribou for your family my friend. I commented last trapping season on your fine videos, Please pray for me as I prepare to go up on my trapline in the Koyukuk River valley at age 73. If God is willing, I am too, Arctic Circle Dave
It was definitely a blessing. We made dry meat from most of two caribou. Yeah that’s for writing👍. I will definitely be praying for a successful safe season. Take care and write again
prayers for you for a safe and productive season stay safe God Bless
@@zeldarobinson3382 thanks, will do. God bless you and yours as well. Thanks for writing
I had to smile when I saw the knife that you were using on those caribou. I'm 73 years old and live in northeastern PA and I've had a Buck Knife just like that since I was 12 or so and started deer hunting. It's skinned it's share of PA whitetails over the years but it's been retired like me for more than a few years. Time to hand it down to one of my grandsons I guess. Just watched your moose hunt video and enjoyed that also.
Congratulations on a fine hunt.
WOW! Did I enjoy this video. I remember when my dad and I would go hunt Caribou and a great time it was and we used to camp out on our hunts. I miss those days. Thanks for rekindling those memories and Congratulations on your hunt.
That’s awesome John! You gotta start telling some of your hunting adventures on your channel I would love to hear them. I’m glad I was able to bring a bit of light to you. And thank you sir for writing👍
Great video👍🏻
Thanks. Awesome country
Counting the days! I’ll be hunting a bit further west and north of you. Thanks for coming by and saying hello on the B Blaze King. Just subscribed to you. Looking forward to seeing more of your content!🫎🫎🫎🫎
Hello from New Zealand brother!!what a blessed and amazing lifestyle you folk have!!enjoying your videos thank you so much...we enjoy hunting more or less without restrictions here,we're blessed to!
Hello brother from across the globe! Yeah we are truly blessed to live where we are and can live this lifestyle that’s so free. I’m glad to hear you can hunt where you are. God bless and take care
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 "hunted by our people for as far back as can be remembered" Yes, but they didn't use rifles!
@@Anti-Fake-ul9oe yep, but my daughter hunts with a rifle, i hunt with a rifle, my father hunts with a rifle, my grandfather hunted with a rifle like my great grandfather and his father before him. Our bows and spears were never taken from us here in the Gwich’in Nation, we adopted firearms and they are an important part of our culture now.
I mean no disrespect but life up here walks the line between life and death, i wont put my families life in danger by not using the most effective way to hunt and protect my people.
So blessed 🎉 Rejoice!
Amen bro! Great hunt and a big relief to get meat. Thanks for writing 👍
Very nice alway love a successful hunt. Once the game is on the ground the real work begins. Congratulations and God Bless
Oh yeah it’s a great feeling of relief to get meat. Yep your right the real work starts after the shots. Thanks and god bless you and yours as well
Right on brother. I do what you do and live the exact same way. I am sayisi dene from northern mb.
Woo hoo! Looking forward to the video bro!
Glad you guys enjoyed it bro! It was a lot of fun up there and a good amount of meat
Bulls must be stink now. Be mid January before can hunt bulls again.
Thank you for sharing!! I learned a lot about processing dry meat!
Oh yeah it’s my pleasure to show y’all our world. Thanks for watching👍
Yes sir what a blessing that has been! Awesome job and awesome video. Keep it going and God bless you and your family!
Thanks brother! Me and the wife try to put out videos that will be enjoyable to watch and show our world. Will do and god bless you and yours as well. I might miss your livestream tomorrow, we’re in Fairbanks shopping and dealing with appointments. I’ll catch the next one👍
Awesome Hunt! The country is absolutely beautiful up there.
Yeah it was a great one. Can’t wait for next years trip up. Thanks for writing👍
thank you for sharing such an important part of your life, i live in michigan it is a family time for us to🎆🎆🎆
Oh yeah I am very happy to show y’all how we live up here. So cool I’ve never been to Michigan. When does winter officially or unofficially begin? Thanks for watching and writing
Amen!
Thanks Chris! God Bless
Hello there at the top of the world from down the bottom of the world ,NewZealand . tastie looking meat 😊
Wow New Zealand! Thanks for watching👍. The meat was great. The dry meat/jerky went really fast. Have a great day and thanks for writing
You have it with butter, bone grease or just as is. Personally I don't like seasoning on dry meat.
@@muskrat411 yeah butter, margarine or just dried rump fat it’s great. The most well usually put on it is a dash of garlic salt. Seems to dry a bit faster with a bit of salt. But plain dry meat is what I grew up eating👍
Good to know you have a "road" connection to Artic village!
With all respect, now you have what a friend of mine from yukon used to say, you got the holy trinity. Moose, Grizly and Caribou!
Blessed! Awesome up there also, beautiful.
We flew up by bush airplane. It’s 70 air miles and the snowmachine/Argo trail is well over a hundred miles from Venetie to Arctic. Nice! The trinity. I also shot a wolf and Wolverine this year along with a couple ducks. Have a good one
Another awesome video brother I need to get my boys bull elk cut up tomorrow and make some more dried meat one day soon
Thanks bro! Yeah it was a lot of fun up there in the mountains. Yeah make a video about processing the elk that would be cool
Living the dream 👍
Amen to that. I am truly blessed. Thanks for writing👋
This was mid September? I drove the Dempster October 1 and there was lots of snow.
Did you shoot that caribou in the hondquarter? Dump the AK and go bolt action and concentrate on shot placement.
I loved the tour of Arctic Villiage, alwasys wanted to see it.
You do drymeat different than we do but it looks delicious.
This was at the end of August. 3 neck shots on both. One shot each would have taken them down but I didn’t want them to run another 20 yards to where I would have to pack them to the four wheeler. AR-223 here is the number one black bear and caribou gun now .
We’ll be going back up there next spring for tribal meetings and in the fall to do this again. But next time we’ll dry more than 2 caribou, prolly do 5-6. Dry meat goes quick.
Thanks for watching and writing my friend👍 hope all is well with you and your family
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 good shooting then. I hope the Caribou move south to your village this winter. It's real fun trapping wolves when they are distracted by Caribou. They not as wary.
@@muskrat411 thanks my friend👍 we hope so as well. We’ll know by Christmas if they continue to move south. Can’t wait to start trapping🫡
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 since it's the same herd we get I'm pulling for north east movement. We love our dry meat too. Might have to get a moose once it freezes up. Be a while before Caribou get here.
glad to see you got your cariboo , hope you are all set for the winter congratulations and God Bless everyone .
Yeah it was a great harvest and we ate the meat fairly quickly. Great stuff. Winter has slipped in here, the rivers and lakes are covered in ice now. Thanks and god bless you as well👍
Awesome video.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. Have a great day
Beautiful country up there, Gary.
Thank you sir🫡 it really is an awesome place
Awesome stuff brother, always a great feeling to have fresh meat👍👍
Thanks Frank! Yeah it’s an awesome feeling. Quite the relief to get meat in the freezer. Have a good one👍
What calibers are you using for your type of hunting and what rifle do you prefer to hunt with? By the way thank-you for sharing your journey substances hunting proving for your family. 😊
Sorry I responded to your comment through the other CZcams app.
I’m using a .223 in a 16” DPMS AR-15. Shooting Barnes Vortex 55 grain mono metal round.
Sometimes I have a different rifle for different hunts. But I carry my 450 bushmaster in an AR-15 the most. Glad you enjoyed god bless and happy holidays
I'm glad you can show us how to butcher at your hunt
Yeah I got demonetized for the blood I think. But it’s ok I want to get it out there more than I want a couple dollars. Thanks for watching
Very interesting. I always respect the fact you hunt for food and use the whole animal. Love your videos.
Thanks. I try to be as respectful as I can on these videos and try not to be to graphic, but I did want to show a bit more of the butchering process. Have a great day and thanks for watching and writing👋
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 it real interesting to see different people methods of gutting and butchering. My brother-in-law last year used an old method. Cut the head off like you did. Then gutted all the way down and pulled everything out in one price. Really clean.
We bring our Caribou home whole gutted carcass or cut in half with the fur on to let the meat cool. That way not so tough meat.
@@muskrat411 yeah the guts out whole works well. If you can hit them in the neck then split the brisket without hitting anything inside it does come out clean. A lot of people bring them in fur on as a way to keep mud and sand off the meat but I’ve almost always brought them home cut up unless I’m short on time. Cut in half or fur on seems to get more hair on the meat the times I’ve done it that way.
Like you said it’s really is cool to see the different ways people deal with their meat.
I just came across you videos. I liked them alot. Im from Pennsylvania and hunt a lot of deer down here and want to come up to Alaska to do some hunting. So I’m watching and trying to get as much info as possible. I noticed that you skinned it you skinned it starting at the belly-I do it that way. Other videos start at the spine. Do you do it you way to be able to use the hide for blankets, clothing and other things? Thank you for sharing videos
Awesome! Glad you found the channel. There are definitely ways to come up and hunt guided and DIY hunts. For more Alaska hunting info I’d check out a podcast called “The Northern Hunter” podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-northern-hunter-podcast/id1653485887?i=1000640919460
A friend of mine created this podcast to inform people on how to go about hunting Alaska.
Yeah I cut at the belly. The skin is thinner and the hair is shorter. We also make sleeping mats with the skins. A long time ago the caribou skins were used to make all sorts of articles of clothing. But nowadays it’s mostly sleeping Matt’s that are made from caribou skins and used for bait for trapping.
Thanks for watching and writing it’s much appreciated. Happy new year and god bless
It’s a great day, thank you Jesus 🙌☝️🙏
Amen! Thanks for watching and God Bless
How the cranberries crop in Arctic Village? I was watching for some but did mot see any.
I stopped a few times and ate a bit too much. I thought I filmed some but I guess not. They were perfectly ripe 👍
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 cool the crop in the mountains was good . But not much in the delta to hot and dry this summer.
Do you know the Lee boys, there father was a very good friend of mine
Yeah definitely. They were up there in Arctic when I filmed this. They were both in my wife’s aunts wedding.
That meat looks so good. Would love to try dry meat
Yeah it’s awesome! Some people like a lot of salt and spices but I grew up with nothing added or just a bit of salt. I have to make a video on the process. Have a good one
Fuckin eh bud, new sub here, hello from Fairbanks
Thanks for the sub, have a good one
That’s what I call open season👁️👁️
Oh man I need a camera that can zoom in. Hundreds of caribou within a few miles
Great video thanks for taking us along. What's the flavor of caribou?
It’s a pleasure to share this with everybody. It has a gamier taste then beef. I’ve never had deer but I’ve heard it’s similar just gamier. To some it’s an acquired taste but I grew up eating it. We usually make a lot of dry meat with it and eat more cooked moose. Thanks for watching👍
From what I hear deer is much gamier. When I see it on Hunting Ch. It looks much refer than Caribou meat.
@@muskrat411 ah ok. I shared meat with a couple friends from down south and that’s what they told me but it was Bull caring oh shot in October. Maybe that had something to do with it
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 yeah October 10 is the latest we will shoot bulls. It the same herd so must be the same for you. By the 20 bulls are inedible. I guess you can hang the meat for a month or two and it is Ok.
Very happy for your success but dang blasting into a tight herd like that is not cool. Yes I’m an Alaskan and have taken many moose and caribou and far from a tree hugger. So please adjust and maybe sight in your gun! 1 or 2 shots is ethical sheesh
Thanks for watching. I waited for a clear shot for almost half a hour, I put 3 rounds into the necks of 2 caribou. No damage to heart and important internal organs. I could have shot once per caribou. But then they would have run about 50 yards into the tusuks. Meat damage confined mostly to the necks, no pass through hits on any and no misses. Both within 30 yards of each other. Thanks for watching and have a great day👍
