    I have been using a duck decoy painted black like a crow. It has wings that spin when the wind blows. I have it mounted on a 20 foot long piece of bamboo where it can spin around any direction. Haven't had a hawk kill any chickens in over a year now.

    My daddy would use empty chip bags, turn them inside out and cut strips to about 2-3 inches from bottom and staple to tree or sticks to put in fence n fence posts. Or nail stick to side of barn n such pens.

    We have a small 3 lb gorgeous gray doggie that potties outside (she is an indoor dog). We are always scared about a hawk taking off with her.
    If we buy a plastic or ceramic black bird and leave it in our yard, do you think that would keep hawks away from our yard?

  • @ritalyons8749
    @ritalyons8749 Před 4 lety +1

    Can't harm a hawk in our area. Bad news bears for anyone who does. We do have crows and they will push hawks out so we are grateful for the crows. Hi Destiny, nice to meet you.

    I put all sorts of similar things up and a hawk took a second of my white chickens from me in 2 weeks time. I’ve had chickens over a year with no attacks. Now I’m covering my girls with netting because I cannot stand to see that sight again. A hawk leaves total carnage.

    I built an automatronic owl with a built in speaker that mimic the screeching of an owl. Along with that I have added a function that move the head along with the wings to give it a feeling of movement. Hawks have never visited me again.

    About the big breasted Tom turkeys. They are not sterile they just can't mate on their own. Male sample has to be collected and the hen then artificially inseminated.

    Saturday, my chickens were out in the yard, I was setting up my little greenhouse. I saw a massive shadow on the ground and looked up, there were 9 huge turkey vultures circling my chickens, and they were low!! 😱 (WE LIVE IN THE CITY.) I started yelling and waving my arms real big running towards my chickens LOL I got them all safely in the run, but it took me 30 minutes to calm down, LOL Turkey vultures are supposed to be scavengers, but they were so low, they were definitely thinking about grabbing a chicken.

      The black headed buzzards will catch and kill. They will catch a cow giving birth and kill the cow and/or calf. If a cow gets down she's fair game for those. Had a 3 month old calf that had her eyes pecked out by them. She was otherwise healthy. But dead just the same.

      I cant even remember what I did lol. This video is 2 yrs ago. Honestly every thing I've ever tried has help bit nothing has been 100 percent because we let our birds go where ever they want and our farm is 18 acres so we still loose one occasionally. Mostly in the spring when the hawks have hatched their eggs and are really trying to get alot of food brought to their chicks is when we have the most problems
