- Footage of the Steel Bridge over the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon taken on Saturday, June 5, 2010, including freight and Amtrak passenger trains crossing the bridge and the lift spans of the bridge in operation.
I go over this bridge twice a day, every day except weekends. I ride the MAX train. Once, the train had to wait because the bridge was up. From the train, it wasn't possible to see the bridge straight ahead. So I am glad to see this video, to have an idea how it works.
Very interesting video!
MrTroll199 : The Memorial Bridge between Kittery. Maine and Portsmouth, NH is now closed.
the bridge in maine also has the 2 lifts thing
What's that house-like thing on top of the liftable section?
+Daren Wilson That is the machinery house that contains the motors and other equipment that operate the bridge. Suspended below it (and hard to see) is the operator's booth, with a view of both the river and the main deck of the bridge to make sure it is clear before raising it. There are also cameras now for the lower level.
This is an odd duck., Two decks, both going up but as needed the TOP one staying in place for the small boats [in Kansas City, where my mother and dad met, there is a similair bridg,e the ASB-Fratt, largley inactive and with ONLY bottom levle, NEVER the TOP one, lifting. ASB bridge is between the Paseo and a bridge that like the Steel's neighbor next door has the name...The Broadway bridge.]
