    Great info, good to remember that Vitamin C increases iron absorption! I'd like to add that coffee and tea inhibit iron absorption. Years ago I was turned away from donating blood a few times due to low iron, but when I stopped having green tea with my cereal in the morning and instead added strawberries to that cereal, my iron levels really improved. Now I don't have coffee or tea within 15-20 minutes of meals.

      Easily! Look into chickpea pasta- Banza is great, we love using the birch benders plant protein pancake mix to make pancakes, Dave’s killer bread is great for sandwiches and toasts, chickpeas, lentils, and all the other nuts and seeds. We love making peanut sauce for Asian noodles, stirring in peanut butter into our morning oatmeal with fresh berries, etc. I don’t know what you like to eat. Please reach out more if I can help.

    If you eat a varied WFPB diet, it's really easy to get enough iron and other nutrients.

      1000% agreed, i just had bloodwork done and was surprised to see how well im doing with these nutrients that meat eaters always tout to be impossible for vegans to achieve, and i dont take supplements

    • @calisongbird
      @calisongbird Před 16 dny

      @@ViCT0RiA6it’s actually harder for vegans to get enough “absorbable” iron. It’s not how much you eat - it’s how much your body absorbs. Heme iron from meat is better absorbed than non-heme iron from plant foods. This is why many (not all) vegans need to supplement. Testing for iron levels is key. Just because you personally don’t have this issue doesn’t mean it’s not a common one.

    • @ViCT0RiA6
      @ViCT0RiA6 Před 15 dny +2

      @calisongbird original comment discusses how varied plant based healthy diet can provide majority of these essential nutrients, the evidence is shown even in this video with exact measurements.
      Also people with iron absorption issues have issues absorbing it from both plant and animal based foods.... the properties that make heme iron 'more digestible' are fractional improvements in its bioavailability especially in these individuals, just an FYI.

    Just a note for anyone out there who does experience low iron it might just be your body not able to absorb it affectingly so even if you did make sure all the things you were eating are great and not taking iron with calcium but instead with vit c and not having caffeine within 1 hour of iron foods you still might need a supplement and there is NOTHING wrong with that. Its not a clear cut way to get iron because it depends on if your body is working well to absorb it or not

    I've been vegan for over 28 years. The only thing I am deficient in is iron. I've had iron deficiency anaemia before I was vegan and that is the only supplement I take ( vit D3 too as I live in Canada). Protein was very easy to incorporate but no matter how much iron I consume it was never enough without supplementation. I'm hoping when that beautiful moon cycle women are cursed with goes away that I will not need the supplementation 😂 I eat Kasha which is Eastern European and high in iron or I also eat baby cereal as it is even higher and I consume it for breakfast that one week every month... 😆. There is a legume that is higher in iron than lentils. The French use it in their signature cassoulet dishes. Not sure if it is easy to find in the States. I live in Quebec and you can find it here easily but they are the most expensive legumes. One tiny bag is well over 20$. It is imported from France.

      Have u tried Blackstrap molasses with lemon daily?

    • @dolcemaddalena
      @dolcemaddalena Před 28 dny +4

      @@YodiJohsonna No actually. I do use molasses and at times crave ginger molasses cookies for a sweet treat and I use it sometimes as a substitute for maple syrup. I know molasses is high in iron too. Do you mix it with hot water and lemon? How much do you put it for each glass?

    • @YodiJohsonna
      @YodiJohsonna Před 28 dny +8

      @dolcemaddalena yes! It's said to be a great way to raise iron levels! You just take 8-16oz of warm water and 1 tbsp of black strap molasses and then add the juice of half or 1 lemon...mix and drink. You can do this up to 2x per day. The lemon helps boost the uptake of the iron in the molasses so it's something you want to add each time.

    Nice video. I love your recipes. I just want to highlight that I think you got an incorrect value for iron content of oatmeal.
    Oats are a good source of iron (most grains are which is good), but I've seen values around 4.5 and 4.7mg of iron for 100g of oats. Not the 13mg you mention (I know it was per cup, but I don't think a cup more than a 100g, and certainly not more than 300g). Nothing wrong with good old oatmeal, I eat it almost every day, I'm just a pendant who wants everyone to have good accurate info.
