    Migration is no longer listed for sale by JMYS
    Nordhavn 68 Migration is one of the most actively cruised Nordhavns ever built. After launching and commissioning in Florida in 2010, she has lived for blue water adventure. Her original owners are a very experienced offshore powerboating couple who previously cruised a Hatteras 58 LRC and longed for a platform that would extend their cruising range and season.
    Hull number 19 in the series allowed for a great collection of ideas and improvements from the earlier builds to be incorporated. The couple spent time with other Nordhavn 68 owners and cruised in excess of 2,000 NM on sister ships to consolidate their ideas. The result was a very detailed order that had many milestone improvements, many of which were integrated into later new builds.
    The husband made it a point to visit the yard in Taiwan at least every other month during the build to better understand the construction and placement of equipment and systems for future servicing. This dedication to the process resulted in an exceptional boat, better informed owners and a very close relationship with the yard personnel that is very rare.
    For great assistance in getting the equipment selections right and confirming the correctness and quality of the build, Steve D’Antonio was hired due to his technical expertise. Steve has been involved in the legacy of Migration from the days of signing a contract, through construction in to Taiwan, during commissioning in Florida and as an invited aboard guest many times.
    Migration was delivered offshore in the Bahamas during the December 2010 holiday season and immediately prepared for adventuresome travel as 2011 rung in the new year.
    Migration has lived up to her name and covered the US east coast several times. One particularly memorable trip was when the owners and a small team of engineers from the Ta Shing yard in Taiwan participated as crew on a run from North Carolina to Florida - the first time at sea on one of the boats they build for these skilled craftsmen from the factory. This type of connection between owner and yard has remained close and is one of the reasons Migration is now for sale as a new Nordhavn 68 to bear the same name is completing construction.

    My absolute fav Nord! The new 68’s are killer, but I’d be looking at a 2010 or so, for affordability. I’m so close! Just retired and getting used to being a “pensioner” but an older 68 is doable for me. I’ve just moved to the west coast of Canada but will happily sell my new home for the right Nord 68!
    Peace.

    Thank you for the tour. Great looking yacht. Why does Nordhavn continue to stick with one main engine, the rule for ocean crossing is two.

      @JeffMerrillYachts  Před 4 měsíci

      Owl: Thank you, she is a wonderful Nordhavn 68. More single engine Nordhavns (recreational trawlers) have crossed oceans than all other similar class production models combined (OK, I don't have the actual factual on that, but I would challenge anyone to dispute this). They are reliable, robust and well designed. The back up wing engine is there if needed. Maybe breaking the "rules" changes the standards? Thank you for watching.

      @sparkyguitar0058 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Falney Good thing about buying a Nordhavn is they will take you through the operations of each part of your new ship. At least that's what they said in other videos. Then you can crash it after you supposedly know what you're doing. Anyway if you feel you need it have a crew run your ship for you and you can blame someone else. I myself would want a small enough ship to run it myself. That means about 55 ft length maximum I feel.

    • @Falney
      @Falney Před 2 lety +1

      @@sparkyguitar0058 from what I understand, 55-65 is pretty much the safe limit for a solo Dock. But I'm not experienced.
      I've still not picked a boat. Looked at lots, but not committed yet.
      I like the nordhavn boats, but if I was to solo, I think I'd go with a steel Hull that way it will be the Dock and everyone else's boats that will sink and not mine when I inevitably plough bow in to a wooden Dock.
      I'm going to hire a captain for the first year.

Your smart enough to make the money to afford this floating bathtub your smart enough not to sink it. Also Nordhavn are 6 in thick at the hull line. Would even take a direct hit on the rocks and not sink. You will be able to break docks and other boats. Steel will rip, remember the Titanic !

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  Před 3 lety +5

      Bert: It's the captain's license that is the requirement. Generally around 70' you need a credential, it depends upon which state, country, etc. Most Nordhavns under 86' are owner operated, but often one or both of the couple do have a captain's license.

      Two considerations: legal requirements and owner capabilities/needs. Legal requirements vary country to country, state to state. Where I live basically anything under 24 meters in length can be operated by any competent 15 year old, at least if not sailing abroad. Longer than 24 meters a skipper's licence in needed for everybody actually handling the boat. Nordhavn owners typically do not have a full crew in boats under 80 feet, maybe just an engineer/captain because the maintenance takes a lot of time and and some expertise.
