Kimber, When squaring stock always start with cleaning the biggest surface first….which you did. But once you’ve cleaned that surface, you want to keep that surface on the stationary jaw of your vise, not the moving side. This way your machined surface isn’t pivoting. You should’ve able to clean up all the remaining five surfaces by just using your vise and parallels.
