Yes, Sammy Davis Jr. was a triple threat. He could sing, dance, and act. I've been entranced by his renditions from Golden Boy of I Want To Be With You and No More. I've read that No More was a particular favorite of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's. Once you hear it, you'll understand why. I don't understand why it isn't played more. I think it still is relevant today.
Sammy Davis Jr. was my father's favorite all around entertainer. He was indeed a triple threat. Sammy had many successes in his career but deserved even more. So glad to learn he received the Kennedy Center Honor in 1987.
@@antoniod He was great at Anthony Newley/Leslie Bricusse songs too such as Who Can I Turn To, and Candy Man from Willie Wonka. Sammy received a Grammy nomination for his joyful cover of Candy Man.
Ira probably heard this in the late 60's and thought "why didn't we think of doing a medley of 'There's A Boat' & 'I'm On My Way' in the original?" Such great music being sung by such amazing talent! Love the Gershwins & I love Sammy!
I went to see Porgy and Bess on my own as a 10 year old in 1960 in Ireland. Fell in love with the film's songs, and went back to see it on maybe ten occasions over the week. They used to show continuous showings, and I often stayed on to see it for free. The storyline was kind of over my head, but I loved the songs. Thank you for posting this.
Such a marvelous voice. Sad they HAVE to use sin(ger). Vocalist is better and doesn't use sin. Wondering how singer got to be real popular? Sing is also a sad way to popularize this talent.
In my opinion, the greatest entertainer ever...💗💗 Love you Sammy.
I whole heartedly agree. He was leagues above the rest of the rat pack

In my 73 yrs, I’ve seen/heard some great talents but one was in a rarified place nobody could compete with. Sammy Davis was that “singular sensation”
I remember this Special when it aired on TV. I was 8 yrs old but look how it impacted me here I am at 59yrs old seeking it out on CZcams.
Sammy is absolutely the best all around entertainer!!
Porgy and Bess is my favorite movie! And he sound so good. His voice and Sidney Portier was so close in this song, amazing voices.
I think that he's the best interpreter of these songs.
He was the greatest entertainer of my 73yr life. This tape is a treasure. There will never be another Sportin Life

One of the first black plays..
Why did Sammy Davis Junior hasn’t got nominated for an Tony for his performance?

Mr. Sammy Davis Jr., underrated as a musician, an actor, a dancer, arranger, conductor, and as a Black Pioneer!! Not appreciated at all!!
OMG - Everyone loved Sammy! He was part of the Rat Pack - a triple threat!
I mean, he didn't get the recognition his talent deserved. But at least he sowed those talents and didn't bury them.
