      No. This is an extreme version. And even if all OCD *was* like this people need to stop being so damn sensitive. Who cares about people exaggerating? Same as when people see someone being stupid and call them retarded. Or if they eat something sweet and make diabetes jokes. Or the teenage kids who say they’re depressed when they’re having a bad week. Or the people making addiction jokes when they like to do something. There’s so many examples of this. If you choose to be offended over something as small as exaggerating OCD you’ll have a rough time in life. 🙄

    This breaks my heart... I have OCD that was getting progressively worse as well and somehow I've managed to reduce it to almost completely functional levels.
    I still have to obsessively check everything in my house multiple times before I can leave (faucets, lights, windows and door locked). Counting specific seconds or times I've checked everything. Among a myriad of other bizarre tendencies... It's hard on those around me because mine is not debilitating anymore and they don't understand why it takes me ten minutes to walk away from my car sometimes. I can just imagine what it's like for his wife too.
    It gets worse on occasion and I have no clue if it has something to do with my mental state or what. All I know is there was a point in my life where I realized if I don't start doing something to curb it, I will end up like this with no control at all anymore.
    Sending him so much love. ❣️

      Do you know why you are doing these things? What do you think will happen if you dont do these things? I am very curious what goes on in your head when you want to stop the act but you cant stop it. What are you thinking at that moment

    • @kaylaatkins1915
      @kaylaatkins1915 Před 4 lety

      @@noraRvx This is purely from what I've experienced as someone with OCD - we do know why we do these things, we feel we have to; but we don't know why we have to.
      When we look a little deeper into the mechanisms behind it we understand that there is an obsession (if I forget to turn the stove off before I leave the house, the house will burn down) and then the compulsion - satisfying the psychological need to relieve ourselves of the obsession.
      So if I check the stove before I leave the house, I know it's off, and the house won't burn down. However the obsession is not always satisfied in the way that normal thoughts are...
      I equated the obsession to normal thoughts people have, to make sure the stove is turned off before leaving the house is very normal indeed. To know you haven't even used the stove since the last time you obsessively checked it, and still need to check it repeatedly, is compulsively acting out an obsessive thought.
      There is literally something in our brain that does not register an action has been done, or even exacerbates the obsession further by getting frustrated with our own brain. It may have to do with anxiety or trauma in my opinion.
      At the moment we are one thousand percent registering that it is not normal but there is like a hot button that doesn't go off until our personal pattern/compulsion is satisfied. It's very strange, cerebral, and personal to each sufferer of OCD.
      The worst part is knowing how ridiculous and unnecessary it is, and still being trapped in the need to act it out, it is humiliating and so SO FRUSTRATING knowing that it is not logical and your brain can't stop.

      @kaylaatkins1915 Před 4 lety

      @@noraRvx Basically you are unable to flow with functions from one to the next because you get stuck on actions that you know you've already performed, but it's like there's a missing link and you have to perform it over and over again until your brain registers the action is completed and you can move onto the next thing/moment in your life.

    I know what OCD is like. I've had it for years, but at this time, I feel I have it under control. There are two things that helped me overcome it. First, I kept reminding myself that the things that annoy you when you have OCD are NOT REAL. Second, overcoming OCD takes courage. If you can just tell yourself, that, if you build up the courage to overcome it, there's no turning back. With this being said, have to courage to overcome it, and it's done. You can't go back. Even if you wanted to, you can't. I hope this helps someone who suffers from it. I know this may not make sense, but the entire process of OCD makes no sense.
