  • Learning how to ride an electric unicycle backwards can arguable be one of the hardest tricks you can learn. It took me over ten hours to be able to get to the point that I am at now. I think you are just as capable as I am and think you just need to keep practicing and youll suceed. Having a smaller wheel like the Inmotion v5f helps with riding backwards but I give you my tips and tricks on how to ride an EUC in reverse.

As soon as I heal from the bruising of learning to ride forward, this will be next!
Great, encouraging video, thank you for sharing!

I road my wheel backwards for 11km one night. I was surprised when I got home after the ride I had initially got on it backwards 😂.
I like the 2nd method you mentioned, forward to a stop and go backwards. Nowhere near your level yet. At 55 things take longer, just ask my wife 🤣
    Cheers

Daaang. That's a long way to ride backwards. Your neck must have been sore after that one. 😂😂😂 LOL

The way that i learned to ride an inmotion v10f was by holding onto a basket (a shopping cart).
after years of trying to ride a unicycle once in a while, and never being able to balance to any degree. the basket gave me the opportunity to get a feel for balancing, and it felt like my muscles were beginning to remember the feeling of balancing to some degree.
after 1000 miles of holding onto a basket(many many many battery recharges of the euc), i was finally able to let go of the basket and continue to ride the euc for short distances. and as time progressed, greater and greater distances were achieved.
i then repeated the exact same learning technique of holding onto a shopping cart, with learning to ride backwards. it took me approximately the same amount of time, 1000 miles in reverse while holding onto a shopping cart behind me, while i allowed my muscles to begin to remember the feeling of riding backwards.
i’m not saying that this is the fastest way to learn. i am only saying that it was how i learned.
i am now shopping for an electric unicycle with suspension and longer range.
    so many choices! its wonderful!

I had been trying to learn how to ride backwards because it looks so cool and could be usefull sometimes. But I quit because it just was too hard and I didn't find a good way to practice. Maybe I will get enough courage to try it again after this video :D

It is tricky, that's for sure. But just keep practicing a few mins on each ride and sooner or later it'll start clicking. It's a super cool experience when you start understanding it and are past the very frustrating part of a lot of failure 😂

I was thinking this would be a good use of the ski poles I've seen a few people using, but I'm not quite ready for backwards yet.

I used Hiking poles to learn how to ride forward as well as backwards. I started with two poles then weened down to a single pole then none. I'm surprised why more people don't use poles to learn to ride.

@5:14 that pivot-to-fakie, that looks like the EUC equivalent of a ice/inline skating 3-turn. Steezy AF!

  • @monowheeling

I found learning to ride backwards about as hard as learning to ride forward. In a way it was easier, because it didn't require specific dedicated training. Just "elongating breaking" beyond coming to a stop further and further, as you suggested, each time when I had to stop and space behind me did the job. After that, watching behind, doing eights, going up curbs etc. needs dedicated practicing just as the forward techniques do.

    • @whatsthedewheel2029
      @whatsthedewheel2029  Před 3 lety +1

Really? That's super interesting that you say it was almost easier. I had a hell of a time 😂true though. Practice is key and as of very recent I can even go down curbs backwards. That's why I truely do love these things, the progression possibilities are almost endless.

Good video. Trying to learn how to ride backwards and seeing someone do it on video reminds me of how easy riding forward looked before I got my EUC and how terrible those first 30 minutes of trying to ride were. Gonna keep practicing in reverse though, muscle memory has to build up at some point (I hope)!
edit: ha, oops, got to the last minute of your video and you said the same thing

Ty for the videos. I’m 200 lbs. I’m looking for my first euc. Would the 5vf be able to get me around about 10 miles and how fast would it go? Or should I go with the v8s?

gj nice, dude i tried on my sherman 4months ago one of this days for like 1hour i managed to go backwards 1meter but mostly only 60-80cm (basicly nothing) xD and i kinda didnt do it since, now im going back out there this was inspiring
the only 3things i cant do is ride backwards, ride with legs on top of my wheel and spin in one spot might never learn the spinning tou since i feel sry to trash my tire
can your ride your wheel while standing on top of it? must be the next level of godly feeling i think evry veteran rider and new to the market gotta learn it one day its like the immortal bonus

On the right wheel anybody can learn within 15 minutes. On a wheel like the Sherman it take forever...but Mten3...
I tried on V5f last year. And now I am trying on my MSP. I will definitely buy Mten3.
