For some reason people including Nixon privately saw Reagan as a lightweight which confuses me. Reagan was one of the most charismatic and likeable politicians to ever exist and if in an election would never lose he was that good. Plus when you saw his presidency he clearly wasn’t light at all. If anyone can explain where this concept came from I’ll hear it.

Once the people lost respect for the office of the president, that respect was gone forever. Before Watergate the president was entrusted with strong political power as commander and chief. That power was reduced after Watergate. Things would never be the same. Fortunately for Nixon, he was spared the shame of being prosecuted in a criminal trial of which he most certainly would have been found guilty and sent to prison.
He spent the final years of his life on a mission to leave behind an alternative legacy, one more favorable than Watergate and resigning from office in disgrace. In the end, he went to his grave knowing he was solely responsible for weakening the office of president of the united states. His name will forever be linked with Watergate despite the outstanding elder statesmanship he provided in the years after his presidency.

@@michaeldennistooley4271 All former presidents are referred to in that manner. There exists, however, a gross double standard as per the very biased media. Some presidents were caught up in or involved in 'scandals', and some are allowed to get away with 'situations', whereas, others are not. But they were/are usually addressed as 'Mr. President'. And Barbara Walters has always thought of herself, from her remarks and the publicity about her, as being above the level as a network reporter. And she has abused the status of a reporter, as others have, as well.
