Muratic acid is also called Hydrochloric acid in many other countries. André

That pink colour of the anode plug fittings is dezincification of the brass. The hydrochloric acid which is dissolving the unwanted zinc stubs is also dissolving zinc from the fitting. It looks like they're still reusable, but would shorten their lifespan. However, in your situation it looks like even one reuse would be a win financially and you're getting more than that by the sound of things. I just mention this as a caution for brass & bronze in general really.

You mentioned sealer or teflon tape on your treads. This will hinder your zincs effectiveness. Were you aware of this?

No I mentioned locktite which is a thread locker and takes one drop it is recommended by almost all engine manufacturers in order to prevent the zinc from coming unscrewed it does not effect continuity between the two metals

Michael Stuart of and sorry that was on a different portion of the video! Actually that is typical to use sealant it will not effect continuity either however Teflon tape all the way up the threads would but I do not believe I mentioned Teflon tape I believe I only mentioned liquid sealant

Only some types of boat engines have anodes. Some have none.

Geoff Crowley all boats that stay in the water should have sacrificial anodes. If they do not then they should be fitted with anodes to promote longer life...

@@BrandonActionJackson My boat has not had an anode for 40 years. Not one. My engine has no provision for one. Stainless shaft, bronze prop (2nd one since boat was new), bronze throughulls.

Geoff Crowley you’re luckier than most... if your boat sits in the water 24/7 365 in a marina especially it’s others and their stray currents you have to worry about.... stainless shafts should also always have sacrificial anodes. Along with metal rudders and in most cases an engine can easily be outfitted to have a sacrificial anodes or they can be bonded from afar ... but overall if u had to guess you’re definitely in freshwater and from the sounds of it your boats engine might even be cooled with straight raw water as opposed to a heat exchanger ... very rarely will you ever see a heat exchanger not outfitted with some type of sacrificial anode

Geoff Crowley looked at your video and saw you had a sailboat... you’re going to be less susceptible to corrosion especially when you limit the amount of dc current flowing around the boat but just because you don’t have one doesn’t mean your boat wasn’t designed to have one... in many cases sacrifice anodes are a choice and a good one at that but hey whatever works for you... in a really densely packed marina especially in saltwater though you can run into real problems from other peoples stray currents and I’ve seen damage to many engines that cost well over $200k that couldve been prevented with some simple maintenance

@@BrandonActionJackson Yeah corrosion not to be trifled with. Spent my whole career dealing with it in one form or another. Your video helps people to avoid it being expensive.
