My Favourite Festival In The Philippines - Kaamulan (Part 2)

  • Kaamulan isn't just dancing, music and culture... It is a learning experience.
Standing on the main road in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, I was overwhelmed with what I was witnessing. This really wasn't a "Mardi Gras" style festival, but a deeply passionate display of ones identity, pride and culture. Did you know that just to perform, many of the tribal groups actually had to ask permission from elders. There is no drinking, no glamorizing and complete respect in the way they perform their storytelling and dancing.
EVERYTHING you witness has purpose to it...
This is just a little footage I had from March 25th. It will never do any justice to the performances, but I hope it gives you a glimpse of what this Festival is all about!
    POWER ON!

I've been living here in Europe ( Switzerland/Italy) for 32 years now; visiting Philippines every 2/3 years but never had a chance to witness such a beautiful FESTIVAL. This video made me cry realizing there are so many things I missed from my root country. I will be visiting the Philippines from May 11 - June 27; anyone there who could tell me where to attend such festival during my stay? I would greatly appreciate any indication. As I mention before, you are truly an inspiration, Kyle. Thank you so

When I bumped into Kulas in a grocery shop in Cagayan, I told him he did a good job showing the beautiful places of the country. But I was even more adamant to explain that Mindanao has so much to offer in terms of culture and nature per se. A lot of people, whether foreign or local, are afraid to discover MINDANAO because of terrorism and kidnappings. But that's not totally the case, it is safe to roam around the island. In fact, Davao, Cagayan, Surigao, Bukidnon are just one of the few places that will leave you in awe once you discover them.
Good bumping into you Kulas. and I know how much impact you have done to our country, showing the world who and how we are as filipinos despite all the hate and destruction around the world. I hope we do as much impact in your life as well. Kudos!

I hope on my next trip I get to see some of this! It looks so amazing! You are so right in saying that the place is fantastic, but its the people that make it what it is. The people of the Philippines are second to none. Such great people with huge hearts. I'm looking forward to more trips there.

I heard of Ati Atihan, Sinulog, Mascara and among others but I never heard of Kaamulan, not until lately when Kulas posted this amazing festival. That's maybe because most Filipinos isolated Mindanao because of fear and ignorance. There's no denying too, that Kulas' videos helped create some fresh air among Filipinos, in terms of our concept of Mindanao. You have my respsect, Kulas!

You should be a spokesperson for the United Nations. We need people like you spreading good vibes around the world. A great humanitarian, Abdul Sattar Edhi said, "People have become educated, but have not yet become human." Kulas, you are 100% human. I hope to meet you someday.
