I mean why not bust that pan off and take the crank out do bearings (about 100 dollars) and hone it. It will be good for 600 (know for sure). I've built many of these engines. Milwaukee would have more of a chance of breaking off sockets but it's not necessarily because the Milwaukee is stronger (Depending on the model of course). You have to keep in mind that they work slightly different, Milwaukee impacts have a lot more impacts per minute which wont allow the socket and or adapters to flex back before the next impact. This is also why you can't use torque sticks with many cordless electric impacts as well, They're not able to "give" at the proper torque rating and will over torque lug nuts.

    Man if you're down there already, I'd just rebuild the entire thing. The piston walls looked good but that doesn't mean everything below that, rings, bearing clearances, etc, are going to be good.
    This is just my honest opinion, which you can do with what you'd like.
    To me, knowing what the condition is, what is new, knowing bearing clearances, ring gaps is peace of mind. It is extra money but, again to me at least, it's worth it.
    You're building a racecar at this point, so I'd get a machine shop to properly deck the heads/block surfaces so they're a matching fit.
    Like I said, this is just my opinion, so its whatever. I enjoy your videos because you do things the "right" way, but I feel like you may be cutting some corners atm.

    About the carbon on the pistons: i once pulled the head on an engine and it sat open for a week. When I came back to it I was able to remove the carbon just like you in the video. Some of it was already peeling of by itself. So it's just from humidity that got into the cylinders

  • @chris-tg6ki
    @chris-tg6ki Před 5 lety

    Get an old head stud and grind grooves up the length of the bolt at 180degrees apart, use this to clean block threads any gunk comes out in to the grooves. Carbon on the pistons looks like oil burn probley valve stem clearances or stem seals, hold the valve at about lift height and waggle backwards forwards sideways and guess/judge if there needed, if these are needed, you will need to do these before valve cutting as there used to center valves, if the waggle in the valves dose not feel sloppy, judge the pitting in the valves faces, if pitting is only light use a drill on lapping.
