Yikkkkkes. That isn’t just any ordinary mash hwoarang. They are evolving you guys. He would literally stop pressuring you just to watch how you react and was compressing his mixups by shortening common strings…. Intelligent hwo players that customize their mixups to you are easily the scariest in the game. He knows you know the matchup and was being very precautionary. Good stuff.

Here's a video I found that demonstrates that you get 25 damage by whiffing the b2 and timing the 1 afterwards(easier than the manual cd1 on lowslump wallsplat timing).
Whiffing b2,1 is not trivial. In practice mode you can of course set up the appropriate conditions, but in real matches the distances are not so easy to reproduce. B2 has very long range so you're more likely to hit it than whiff it in real matches with any consistency.

Hwoarang and Steve are skilled character however Hwoarang had a few options and counter tactics from previous Tekken games that barely puts him at mid to upper-mid at best.(possibly high but it's questionable) now he got more in Tekken 7, his love/hate relationship with the community also grew. I think he earned mechanics that he got right now but he always will forever be in a love-hate relationship with the community. I like Steve as well but don't get me started out how busted he was ever since his debut and in Tekken 5.

Cons: slow like a snake edge, can be ducked on reaction, stance needed
Both moves are too gifted with five properties total. Different properties between them is that Electric doesn't have armour but it is fast, backlash is much slower (2x) so it has armour. Both of them recover similarly fast too but people love to bitch about backlash only, for some reason.
Hell backlash is more counter hittable with a low compared to Electric.

I hate Hwoarang and as a Drag player I had trouble with him in the early ranks, especially when people would spam his power crush. As a way to counter I would keep my distance and hit em with F 1+2. From that point forward they weren’t that much of an issue. It is Hwoarang we’re talking about after all.

I don’t know much about Hwoarang, but based on the properties given and my experience with Mishima’s I might be able to give a bit of insight. Electric is generally not something you want to do outside of conditioning and whiff punishing because it usually resets to neutral. You need to be a lot more strategic with when you use it compared to a launching armored move like Backlash. If you can throw electrics as liberally as you could a Backlash, then you’re the top percent of Mishima. Ngl, the Mishima’s lose a core part of their generally limited move set, not as much Devil Jin, without an electric. Hwoarang still has 100+ moves while the Mishima’s have below 90. Hwoarang still has options without it, but Mishima’s are gutted. Backlash also sets you right in front of the opponent with plus while regular electrics, excluding hook fist, push away at for keep out and neutral.
There is also a lot more thought that goes into using an electric, it’s basically the main combo tool for every character that has it. You build your gameplan around it because it can be extremely predictable compared to Backlash. Hwoarang has a lot more tools that require you to condition a Hwoarang player to throw a Backlash, but you can bet that a Mishima will throw an electric to whiff punish, keep out, and for more damage in their combos. It’s faster yeah, but it’s also more predictable. Ducking is really your only option but most characters have decent while rising punishment.
I think it’s more about who the moves are on. Mishima’s don’t have much without an electric and Kazuya is immediately a dead character. Hwoarang still has the entirety of his movelist to fuck your day up.
Just my thoughts and observations on it, not an expert by any means.
@@deltazenturo1701 Electric used for conditioning? Yes right. Many kinds of conditioning. One is to threaten the other person so that they are careful and don't get aggressive on you or they will get hit. (Backlash does this too). Another conditioning is to make them duck so that they think electric is coming but you do a mid launcher instead to nail them. Backlash can't do the same. Because it's so slow, good players don't have to guess and duck in advance and they will only duck when they confirm that attack coming. Only after confirming it, they will duck punish, or even better, use their low counter hit move. Low counter hits are so much more effective against backlash compared to against electrics. Try it.
Idk why you say electric is more predictable than backlash. It's opposite. Electric comes out of neutral stance and is instant, backlash comes out of a stance and is slower. Objectively, you are wrong and backlash needs more strategy.
Launching whiffed electric and backlash is equally hard *timing wise*. They recover instantly. But electrics are so fast, they come and go much faster than backlash. Opponent can't react to electrics even a bit. They can whiff punish it, sure. But still one can use electric way more comfortably than backlash cuz latter is super slow, a patient opponent can more easily whiff punish it on reaction. Spamming backlash against a patient player is a much badder idea.
Hwoa's has larger moveset but he doesn't have access to it all in neutral. That's a big tradeoff. The great moves he has are split into stances. Not being able to use them all at neutral is a big disadvantage. Whereas mishimas can use all their great moves without a particularly risky stance. Trade off.
Plus frames. Hwoa isn't the only one with plus frames. Almost every character has plus frames in their certain moves and they all can jail/frame trap the opponent into a guessing game. Like... I have been relentlessly pressured by opponents in ways that I can't jab them out of their attacks anywhere. I have to look for right moment to jab them out of it, if I guess wrong I get bodied like Hwoa's strings body people with relentless pressure.
@@deltazenturo1701 PS. You also kinda think armour is backlash's "strength". I would say it's more like a defence. Without armour, a slow non evasive move like backlash that is a high is useless. I wouldn't mind if they made backlash faster and removed armour.
Snake edges are slow as well but you at least can avoid getting hit by high attacks while using them. Backlash is as slow as them but if you are standing straight while doing it, you are vulnerable to everything so you *need* armour.
And no one deserves five properties overpowered move. Not the mishimas, not hwoa. It's unfair to other chars that lack these. You know what electrics and backlash don't need and should be removed? Tracking.
Yes, Hwo jabs beats Paul df2....You block or you duck it, there is no evading with df2 or d1+2. Hwo has insane damage with crazy mixups and is mash friendly. He is like law...in the right hands, this is a super strong character.
