That number is utter garbage. It’s way more than 200. We see about 50 per year killed on highways, every year, therefore there is literally zero chance of there only being 200. Estimates by people who aren’t trying to make money by telling us low numbers are closer to a few thousand.

They’re not almost gone. They’ve been interbred with western cougars and the numbers are way higher than they’re telling us. We are seeing fifty per year killed on highways every year, so it’s literally impossible for there to be only 200. They’d have been extinct 25 years ago if the estimates given in this video are true. If there were only 200, we would NEVER catch them on camera. But we get dozens and dozens of new videos of panthers in the glades and in backyards and state forests every year. You can’t claim we have 200 left and then tell me we caught 50 of them on camera and killed another 50 on the highways, year after year. They’re using old estimates from the 90’s when tagging and tracking efforts were minimal.

In many places they are over abundant because hunting has been restricted to not being able to use dogs anymore. My state out west has an issue with them lol. They just walk into cities and hang out on people's back porches or In trees next to their houses. Cops have had to kill multiple in recent years. They didn't have too,but you can't let a 100lb cat roam around inside city limits. It had already killed a bunch of street cats and people's dogs in yards.
My biggest concern where I live is momma black bears with cubs and mountain lions. The cops will shoot them inside city limits where I live. It's not some cuddly friendly cat. They are absolute killer predators. Top of the food chain in North America in many places.

The estimates are wrong. There are closer to 3,000 today after interbreeding efforts with western cougars. There can not be only 200 left when we see fifty killed yearly in highways. They’d have been extinct decades ago. If we only had 200 left, we would never catch them on camera, but instead we are getting dozens of new pics and videos every year. The estimates are wrong. @@321gates ok I will, contrary to popular belief there is no such thing as a panther, panthera is the scientific name given for a collective group of big cats in the panthera genus, mountain lions aren’t one of them so shouldn’t be referred to as a panther, the only big cats that could be perceived as panthers are a lion, tiger, leopard or jaguar, the most common cats to be called panthers are black leopards and jaguars but again they are not panthers they are still just leopards and jaguars that have a recessive gene which causes the colour change and makes them rare. This cat is a puma it is not a separate species and there is no such species as a panther.

@@Zenzyth You are totally glossing over the fact that the FL panther is a subspecies (Puma concolor coryi) of Puma (Puma concolor), therefore it needs name. You and others OCD over the fact that black cats of any species are not a seperate species dubbed, panther. Your obsession over this childesh (black cat) fact will not allow you accept that Florida's subspecies of puma goes by the name, panther.
Because there are no unicorns, should we rename the unicornfish? It's a name. A label. Geesh.

They aren’t in danger. The numbers are inflated and every year 40% of the “population” dies by vehicle accidents and on top of that a lot of them aren’t Florida panthers they have been inhabiting Texas pumas

They're basically the same thing ... just geographical range differences. Used to be more mixing with other games external to Florida, but human development of structures and roads create divisions that make it very difficult for them to cross, causing many deaths by traffic.
