  • What is innovation? Is it just scientific discovery, or there a more human element to it? Dr. Vishal Rao, an oncologist, widely acclaimed in his field of throat cancer, makes a strong case for spreading the kind of innovation that is driven by good intention and cause. “Today, we are innovating diseases, and then we are further innovating the cure”, he says. With a firm belief in the potential of good intentions, Dr. Vishal dreams of a tobacco-free world and a time where cost is no longer a factor for access to medical treatment.
Dr. Rao is an oncologist and head & neck surgeon at the Bangalore-based HealthCare Global (HCG) Cancer Center. As a self-motivated medical expert, Dr. Rao has invented the AUM voice prosthesis- a device to help throat cancer patients get their lost voice back at an affordable price of $1. He lends his voice to several social causes, especially on tobacco and cancer awareness.
