Just that clip there illustrates why he succeeded. Ambitious, determined, not afraid to work and organized. He turned that business around dramatically without reinventing the wheel. He kept it simple beer, pool and pizza.

I met him in 2000. This guy walks into our ceramic elective class with 25 large pizza's. He says "I'm looking for Mary-anne T*****k?" Mary looks around and say I am Mary-anne. He says, "You ordered 25 large pizza's? That's $400 you owe"
She's about to cry and he then tells her who he is, and that she won a scholarship for the essay she wrote. Everyone in class got their own pizza and he hung out with us. The most shocking part was she won a scholarship as she was my weed smoking friend. She was a total pothead. Never knew she was also an academic.

Senor year of high school, had almost all electives. I was definitely high. In fact, 50% of the ceramics class was high. We were making bongs. This guy was our savior that day.

I grew up in Louisville during papa johns genesis .
thank you for this. hopefully I can be the papa Jon version of a sushi restaurant. his dad sounds like my dad, but I think my dad was worse. I wonder his papa johns mom committed suicide too. if so maybe all my hardwork and sacrifices will mean something one-day. maybe making that decision at 16 that I didn't want hang out with these loser friends I had who I only cared about getting high and listening to the thought in my head that if I keep hanging out with these guys I'll end up like them. so I started from the bottom washing dishes the best I could like a Miyazaki mango farmer tends to his mangos. I remember my first 10 cent raise from 7 dollars an hr to 7:10 an hour . I remember working so well as a dishwasher doing a lot of dirty work and finishing everything so well I always had time to help the chefs prep food and little by little I learned. my whole life I worked harder than I got paid and opportunity always arose but my mental health and inability to deal with my traumatic childhood would always cause me to self destruct. not having a mother or a sober father, I never knew what love was or how parents can give you belief and confidence and my family always looked at me with disdain in the back of their mind bcuz of how much I looked like my father and how much do damage he did to the family. so I always thought if I work hard and keep putting the reps in each day I'll get confidence based on all my research of people I wanted to strive to be and they always said those things. but I never got that feeling truly. my battle with self worth is my biggest test and if I don't conquer it I won't survive. I can pray and pray and love god but sometimes maybe god wants me to try harder.
side note. people like me should not have to pay for some kids student loans, especially if most those kids are fucking around and getting wasted. I don't mind giving a little every paycheck if your working your ass off and you become a beacon of light in your profession one day.

Living in Louisville he annoyed a lot of his neighbors in the rich area of town. Judging by his built safe to,say he never ate the crap he made lol. Growing up in the NJ/NY area and,now living in Louisville I didn't realize how,spoiled i was with pizza. People in Louisville love this so called pizza with papa John's. It's awful pizza that trash people love
