一瞬のうちに自分の故郷が変わり果ててしまう光景って、本当この世の地獄としか言いようがない…。
This footage is so valuable. You can clearly see how the positioning of the breakwaters alter the waves course and buys them a bit more time. We on Canadas west coast have learned so much from the Japanese in loss prevention, building codes, and the behaviour of water after a quake. And the biggest lesson of all: how you learn from such tragedy and overcome it. I can still remember being glued to the tv when this all unfolded. It was hard to believe it was real. 🇨🇦🇯🇵

that offshore wave must be like 50 or 60 feet if u can clear see it from so high up, they can make an amazing movie out of this disaster and hopefully the world will be more informed and prepared about the awesome destructive power of tsunamis!

防潮堤の多くは破壊されたが、津波の進行を7分間程度遅れさせたことは判明してる。この7分で逃げ切れた人は間違いなくいる。

どうなんでしょうね。防潮提がなかった方が良いという考えもあります。①防潮提を越えないだろうという安心感を生んでしまうことと②海の様子が見えない。津波が防潮提を乗り越えてしまってからではどうやっても逃げ切れない。。

As an American, I am so sorry for this tragic event. I followed it closely throughout the clean-up process and number of those who tragically lost their lives. Japan has been through so much and has always come out stronger. The world could learn so much from the Japanese people.
Absolutely! I have always been astonished at the Japanese character as a whole when it comes to pulling together for the sake of recovery and healing. It is truly heart breaking what they have been through.

No, it cannot increase. The energy is being dissipated as it interacts with the coastline. In the deeper part of the channel the energy and speed are maintained more, and the wave assumes an arcuate shape. Unfortunately, the barriers couldn’t stop it completely.

It looks like it breaks on a reef 0:32 before it moves on . Then a 05:35 it looks like a tidal bore going up the river. Then at 6:07 I wish he would have zoomed in on those breaks almost at the top of the screen
Remarkable footage showing how the sea walls dissipated the power of the tsunami. They couldn’t stop it completely, yet the power was diminished. Otherwise the devastation would have been that much worse.

空から避難勧告する機関がなかったのか。自治体、自衛隊、警察。今後はこういう映像撮ると同時に状況が分かった時点で直ぐに住民に伝えて欲しい。
空からこんな恐ろしい波が来ることを見てるなんて住民は知らない。

電源はやっぱり大切で、同等の災害が起きればネットも携帯もテレビも全て使えないでしょう、もちろんラジオも。
直後は非常電源だったのか携帯は支えたが混線してNG。ラジオは中継局がダウンしてAMのみ。テレビは車のテレビは視聴OKでしたが家庭用は停電でNGでした。
震災後、自分の生活している地域では軽トラやトラクターまでナビゲーションやテレビを付けてほしいと依頼が来ました。
情報を得るの大変ですよね。
揺れた直後は何もも考えないで高台へ避難ですね。
沿岸地域にいても「強い地震から津浪へ」との考えは浮かびませんでしたから。

The first wave front must be 40 or 50 feet high! It's so surreal to see these mammoth horrors march across the land. The configuration of the wave is fascinating. You know, before 2004, the only tsunami video available was grainy footage shot in Hilo HW back in the 60's. In the span of less than a decade, the largest tsunami waves in history have revealed themselves in front of a camera.

2011....it’s been eight years and these images still convey the terrifying knowledge that so many people faced this on the ground. Now we have the events in the Bahamas. Smaller scale, but a terrible reality for those people. Theses are human events.

高台に逃げるためにはどうすればって考えてたけど高速が近くにあって倒れてたりしたら高速の下くぐらないと高台行けねぇなと気づいた。

以前何かで見たんですが、あんな被害をもたらしたのに、防波堤造るの反対の人がいる事にびっくりでした。昔からの景色が変わってしまった…観光に来た時の美しい景色が…だの何だかんだ言ってる記事。これからの人生を生きていく(とくに若者)人達の為に、やっぱり造って正解だったと思います。あって良かったねって日が来ると思う。二度とおこってほしくないですけど。

This was recorded from a police helicopter above Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan.
You can physically see the difference in water height against the background hills between the front of the wave and behind.
It must be terrifying to watch that monster water coming straight into shore & knowing there's nothing you can do about it. I don't think many people took the warnings seriously enough.

@@shred9178 In the news, the prefecture this city was in (Iwate Prefecture), the forecast was only around 3 meters.
@zerascal3 Not all helicopters have the ability to lift weight, some of the smaller ones only have capacity for those seated nor do they have winches etc for the job. Filming the wave is very important as it shows the specialists lots information.

気仙沼の防災放送なんかもそうだけど、大抵の場合、発令された警報に基づいたマニュアルの定型文でアナウンスを続けていた、被害が深刻になっていることが目の前で確認できていたにもかかわらず。
測定不能の大災害の前における緊急危難の場合は、役所も、ラジオも、「早く逃げろ、兎に角逃げろ、おまえら死ぬぞ！」くらい言ってくれた方が良いのかもね。
俺の地域、情報も遮断されて、何も分からずむしろ牧歌的ですらあったけど、翌日川に水を汲みいったら、逆流した津波が勢いよく戻っていくところに遭遇して怖い思いをしたよ。

Excellent view of the details of a tsunami wave. Notice that the ocean is deeper behind the wavefront. The wavelength is so long that the trough can't be seen, it is so far out to sea. Another wave crest arrives even before the first wave has passed.

Tsunami waves break up in many smaller waves as they reach continental shelves so the period we see close to shore is really just a fraction of the actual one.
@@jontakaki503 In this case (2011 Japanese Tsunami), the epicentre was within the continental shelf already.

津波に襲われないように逃げた船が津波を乗り越えてその時の衝撃がだんだん広がるのとだんだん浅くなるから水がサーフィンの波で人が飲み込まれるようにﾊﾞｼｬｰﾝ！となって白くなる。
Everyone is applauding the video. Am I the only one thinking the camera man had only one job: to film the tsunami and want it did - and he did a poor job. Really, I understand, of you're on the ground in the middle of it all and in great fear and anxiety so you don't really concentrate on filming. But this guy just had to hold the camera still and capture the disaster. I was frustrated with the camera cutting off the most important things: when the wave come close to houses in the begging on the video, what happened?! Did they survive? Just as the wave came to the houses, the camera man pointed the camera so, that we couldn't see! 🤦
I always think perhaps he had a wife and child below him, and other family. Think I'd shake if I saw what was heading towards them! Also, I've been in a helicopter and you get a lot, and I mean a lot, of vibration.
I think that’s cultural, lots of videos pan away from people in path of tsunami. I don’t know how much vibration in chopper.
