  • HS2 Ltd and its contractors have donated 300 native tree saplings and sustainable tree guards to Corley Academy, a secondary school near Coventry for students with complex social and communication difficulties.
    The project is part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, the tree planting initiative created to mark the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
    Over 20 volunteers from HS2 Ltd and BBV spent a day at the school during half term, planting the trees donated by HS2, from stock grown by Crowders Nursery in Lincoln, the company contracted to grow the 7 million trees for Phase One of HS2.
    The trees will enhance local wildlife in the school grounds and create green spaces where students can learn about the natural environment. Returning to school after half term, the pupils spent their break times inspecting their new woodland planting.

    Well done once again HS2. Watching these kids who are facing struggles we can only imagine react to and enjoy a simple exercise like planting a tree was quite heartbreaking. And the people helping them are magnificent.
    Made me both proud and sad at the same time.

    I absolutely love this 🙂 Hat's off to HS2 too 🙂 But one thing that concerns me is that all those trees are planted too close together! They are really going to struggle in adulthood!! 😞

      All will become clearer once HS2 is up and running!! Ask the ex protesters who live alongside the Newbury bypass about their experiences 🙂

    Great to see tree planting going on, but when you say donated do you not actually mean is that the tax payer who is funding HS2 is actually donating the trees?

      I think we all know who is funding the project so why split hairs over a really worthwhile and well thought out project?

      It’s interesting as the tax payers payed for all the other rail lines which are now in private hands and millions of profits are lost to shareholders while the workers strike for a far pay deal, every day they strike, £30 million is given by the government to the private companies. All very corrupt, like the colossal amounts of money disappearing into this project. Take 2

      @@1chish how much rolling stock and repairs of existing track would £100 billion buy? Would a massive increase in existing line capacity and a reduction in cost per journey increase the amount of ppl taken off roads and onto trains? Of course it would. Why the obsession with one new high speed line over all existing lines with more service at lower cost?

      @@a.y.t.a.s.494 You may want to research the West Coast Main Line upgrade that took 11 years from 1998. It went billions over budget and by 5 years it was back to full capacity again. There is no more room to increase capacity on the WCML. NONE.
      "rolling stock and repairs of existing track" doesn't cut it.
      THAT was why HS2 was designed as it was: To deliver double the capacity to remove all intercity main line services and release more capacity on the WCML for freight and inter urban services.

      "Why the obsession with one new high speed line over all existing lines with more service at lower cost?"
      You keep on about 'high speed' when it is far more about extra capacity. To add extra speed is not that much more expensive. And 'all existing lines' have not been abandoned with Network Rail spending some £53 Bn in CP6 of which £18.5 Bn is for renewals and £10.4 Bn is for enhancements.
      That £53 Bn is 53% of your £100 Bn but it is repeated every 5 years. HS2 will take 20 years. Do your own maths ....

    What is the estimate of co2 produced when manufacturing the cement that you are going to use when making hs2 please

    • @1chish
      @1chish Před rokem +11

      Simple answer: Not as much as it would if it didn't take it seriously. HS2 uses 'Earth Friendly Concrete' which is made from a combination of ground granulated blast furnace slag, pulverised fly ash and a high-alkaline chemical, rather than Portland cement. Its geopolymer binder system reduces embodied carbon by around 70 per cent saving 250kg of CO2 per cubic metre poured.
      But your point in asking wasn't inquisitive was it? No it was an accusation. You ask a question about one aspect of HS2 because you think you are making some evangelical point about CO2. The simple fact is that caring for the environment and reducing damage to the climate is not a zero sum game. You have to create CO2 in the short term to make massive reductions in the long term.
      This is why the 'Stop Oil' idiots are finding no friends because they demand an immediate end to new oil when there is nothing to replace it but there will be in years to come. Meanwhile they terrorise innocent people like sanctimonious cretins they are. All while they drive their nice new Range Rover diesels ... smh.
      Maybe fire your angst at the USA or China or India which are the real killers of our global climate. The UK creates about 2% of global emissions and you are asking about cement on one project?

      @@a.y.t.a.s.494 You clearly write without reading. Short attention span maybe?
      let me repeat:
      "250kg of CO2 per cubic metre poured"
      Now you can jog off and find how many cubic metres will be poured (given its not completed yet) to build HS2 and multiply that by 250Kg. If you can cope with mathematics.
      Now is there any more stupidity you wish to share?
