I'm getting really tired of watching Ben wallow in self hatred and pity. If the writers wanted to break up Ballum for good, then it's mission accomplished with this horrible storyline. It's so obvious that the writers came up with a story idea first, then pretzeled the characters in an attempt to make it all fit but never did. The result of this mess is that Ben was written totally out of character (we don't want to see him as a weak victim) and became very unlikable. Now, if Callum had been raped by a bloke he was trying to arrest because he failed to wait for backup and tried to proceed on his own, THEN you'd have a workable story. Callum would be too humiliated to report the sexual attack because he's a man (pride) and a cop (he could lose his career for ignoring protocol) so trying to burying it makes him act out and withdraw from Ben. Could you imagine the depth of the scene where it's Callum who finally confesses the rape to Ben, who would react with shock and compassion then go crazy with revenge. This would only make Callum feel more guilty and worthless. There would still be a lot of emotional hoops to jump through on the road to recovery.
Does anyone else find it really weird writing that Ben would choose to have sex with a virtual stranger while under the influence of a drug he’s never taken, just weeks after he was raped? I’d think he’d want to avoid sex altogether and if not then at least make sure he was able to be in total control. This and a number of bens choices don’t make a lot of sense. It’s just “let’s throw everything we can at him to show he’s not coping” and it’s getting too much.
That's the problem the writers they totally lost plot on the rape storyline. They are trying to say Ben going through trauma while ignoring Callum. Chelsea will probably tell Whitney and Callum will find out about James. So how does Callum fit into this Ben? Ben is still sleeping around with other men.Ben is still married he got raped yet now having casual sex with James. Ben doesn't want monogamy and the writers have lost the plot. So even when Callum finds out truth he is supposed to accept his husband is promiscuous?

Kate Oates claimed she'd handle the storyline "sensitively" and is working with charities to make sure they tell the story "truthfully" but the truth is she's handling the story insultingly.

This can lead to them throwing themselves at anyone to feel some kind of gratification, control, escape, self-worth etc. Some even try to overwrite the trauma by any means necessary. The human psyche is very complex. The writers are handling the storyline very well in my opinion.
