" Coming Out" and Rose and Peral diffently killed it for me...

We must appreciate how real and serious kids' shows are getting lately. Avatar: TLA, Amphibia, The Owl House, Teen Titans, Infinity Train, She-Ra, Steven Universe… Kudos to all their magnificent creators.
Don't forget about The Owl House as well!
@@zachtheowlhousefanhall973 Edited! Thanks for reminding. Also I forgot about Teen Titans 😂
@@logans.butler285 Oh yeah The OG Teen Titans but don't forget about Adventure Time and Gravity Falls as well!
@@zachtheowlhousefanhall973 yes yes, but if I mentioned all kids' shows with a mature, complex message for everyone, my comment would be too lengthy and many people wouldn’t stop by to read it! 😂
@@zachtheowlhousefanhall973 We could go on all day! Tangled: The Series and She-Ra have also showed some high levels of maturity and seriousness in their plotlines 💯
I love it when kids entertainment aren't afraid of tackling serious issues
That's what makes these shows all the more interesting for grown-ups.
It can be a bit of a challenge
But when it works, then it becomes legendary
nothing is wrong when you do it right
the reason most people hate gay scene is because it has no purpose in plot and it jusst to forrce the aenda onto viewers
cough... cough... High guardian crap
The scene when Connie’s mom was asking Steven about his life and leading him to come to grips with how much he’s dealt with and that he may very well have PTSD was one of the most profound things I’ve seen in kids media.
It s not PTSD, it's C-PTSD. The difference is that PTSD is a mental illness that you get after one specific extreme traumatic event that happened once in your life (for instance, Korra after the events of Season 3 finale), while C-PTSD (C is for Complex) happens when you have multiple extreme traumatic experiences who repeat themselves in a short timespan.
In this case, for 3 years at age of 13 (the equivalent of 5 seasons and a movie) Steven fought monsters, suffered power incontinence, saw his friends temporary deaths, had many near death experiences, always caught in the crossfire of his mother actions, pressured by the Crystal Gems and the Diamonds to be her perfect copycat, was treated like a lightning rod for the emotional instabilty while neglected his own well-being...... Don't you see any pattern here?
Which is why when he had his meltdown, i was happy, because i could finally tell them: "Ah! Jokes on you! I don't care if you love him or not. You caused this completely avoidable mess, now it's time to pay the bill!"
@@veronicapiccinini7956 I think they handled it well with the C-PTSD. I have it myself so it was interesting seeing how they dealt with Steven's trauma.
28: Garnet, Pearl and Ameythst were like guardians to Steven but also like aunts. Garnet does have mom moments
Amethyst is more of a big sister to Steven though.
Not only did the show handle such mature themes but the episode usually accompanied it with a beautiful song. ✨Serenity✨
Let me drive my van into your heart
Stronger than you
Haven’t you noticed
Giant woman
True kinda love
The show had it all.
@@anthonynambo6426 it really did. One of the wonderful things about the SU finale was that Sadie Killer and the Suspects sang "Let me Drive My Van into your Heart" as their performance. That FRICKIN MOVED ME 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Steven’s crisis in the Future season is the one that hits close to home for me. Not his trauma, but that moment where all his friends seemed to be drifting apart as everyone was finding their own paths. This, combined with all that he was trying to bottle up until the finale, it just hits so hard to me because I have been upset since graduating high school because I’ve parted ways with all my friends, and with all the issues I’ve been dealing with it felt like there was no one around to talk to. Thankfully in recent years I’ve managed to find all the support I wanted, I needed, but it still troubles me how I have faced so many hardships when I could’ve had help all along.
This really shows that Steven Universe really connects to real problems from everyone in real life as most of other TV shows. Stuff like this really teaches us how dark, sad, cruel and messed up this world can be and as far as I'm concerned, we all live in a scary world like this even though there are plenty of beautiful and good things all arounds. At least there are good people.
What's a promble?
@@liamdude5722 I meant "problems" I spelled that word wrong.
It’s a shame that despite them tackling these issues in a way for kids to understand and learn from, the show was still getting censored in countries. Like, here in the UK, they removed an embrace between Rose and Pearl but not the kiss between Rose and Greg
Yeah same here in the Philippines they blurred a photo of one of the character in owl house who has two dada’s
@@Midnight_Pisces21905 willow's dads?
@@gabi0.4 yep
I watch a lot of CZcamsrs who live in the UK and a good bit of them are lgbtq+ (nonbinary, lesbian, bi, ...) and as a result thought that the UK didn't censor stuff as often
@@Midnight_Pisces21905 Willow?! NOO!
It was a surprisingly emotional show and a highlight of the 2010s
I loved the 2010’s
Yeah.
You’ve gotta love cartoons that aren’t afraid to teach real lessons -
Steven Universe, Craig of the Creek, Avatar, Spongebob, Ducktales17, The Owl House, My Little Pony FIM, Adventure Time, Amphibia, Gravity Falls, She Ra, Kipo, and I’m sure that’s barely a tip of the iceberg
Star vs Forces of Evil. I've watched all these shows and it's so hard to find shows like this anymore! If you have any recommendations please let me know.
My mother was in an abusive relationship when she was a young adult- I showed her the episode where jasper begs lapis to fuse again and asked what she thought of it. She thought it did very well in depicting a common occurrence in which abusers or those who were abused go back to the toxic relationship
Every time i saw scenes like these, it always made me think that people could learn a lot from this show especially if they happen to be dealing with these particular issues in real life.
So true.
Bravo to the Rebecca Sugar for being so brave

Steven: everything is going to be ok let’s hug and sing and everything would be ok
In Steven universe future
Gems: everything is going to be ok let’s hug and sing and everything would be ok
Steven: that is not going to work
Steven : *gets PTSD*
I think what hit me the hardest was finding out what Pink had been through with the other Diamonds in the main series, and then in Steven Universe Future, it was the lead-up to Steven turning into the monster. "I'm a fraud, I'm a monster!" - how many of us have felt this way?
I'm binge watching the entire series again right now, such a well written, intelligent show, I appreciate it's honesty, and it doesn't insult the viewers intelligence regardless of the age of the person watching . It's just a beautiful show, the voice actors, the songs, I just adore it.
Now that I’m older, I realised how deep and personal the show is. I understand the show more deeply after going through some life experiences
It tackled serious issues and made it beautiful and made it awfully heart wrenching...😢💔
Almost like was a PSA Cartoon Show or something!
Not sure if that's what everyone was going for or something, but you never know!
@Tom Whalen hello!
Real world problems were a groundbreaking topic for this show. I'm proud of Rebecca Sugar for making this series.
The ironic thing is many of the issues Gems dealt with...we REAL WORLD humans are still struggling with even now.
For example, just as the Homeworld culture did; specific human groups think it's "evil" for a couple to consist of a white person and a non-white person. Even worse are the chumps who think the LGBT are evil and that two humans of the same gender are "committing sinful behavior" by being in love
Interracial couples you mean and don't forget the issues biracial children face.
Plsss a white person and a non white person is always shown in the media🥴🥴. You rarely see a person of color with another person of color.
@@awkwardblackboy7029 Be that as it may, some white people face harsh lives for being with people of color.
@@awkwardblackboy7029 it doesn't mean they don't still deal with issues. Half of my family doesn't even talk to us because my mom married a non white man and had a mixed daughter. My sister gets hate from both sides and feels left out because neither group seems to fully accept her. And it doesn't help that we live in a racist town. So yeah it's shown all the time but they don't show the shit that happens when you have an interracial family.
@@qualityconcepts5762 And I’m very sorry to hear that, but that doesn’t mean the media should just show those couples. There are so many other POC interracial couples who might have different experience from that of a white person and POC. And lastly it’s very toxic to just show that type of couple when that is not always the reality
As A person on a different video pointed out The reason smoky quartz didn’t unfuse when they were questioning their self-worth was because it was so common between both Steven and amethyst
The part where the people Steven loves talking to him about how much they love him in his monster from, and then transformed back and started crying, that made me cry too.
I was teari g up while writing this. I hate crying, especially when I'm around people.
Thank you Rebecca. Thank you to everyone who made this show possible. It taught me so much as an adult, and gave me an escape while teaching me hard lessons♥️
One of the best, inspiring, reality hard hitting cartoon show in the animation history. I miss it so much 😢❤️
About “Toxic Relationships”, you forgot to mention even familiar ones. The Diamonds were abusive towards Pink, and abuse is ALWAYS present in a toxic relationship.
The show handles those issues beautifully which makes Steven Universe my top Cartoon Network show
No one seems to be talking about how real-life malachite gems are toxic in a very literal sense. They're actually poisonous to human skin.
Steven Universe is one of the best Cartoon Network shows ever!
@@carolinedisalvatore9768 I didn’t ask for your opinion
@@alicebthegachaweirdo8378 My apologies…
💯 agree
Put this back on Cartoon Network!
So many of the issues Connie, Steven, Greg and the Gems had in Fusion Cuisine could easily have been avoided if Connie simply didn't lie to her parents about Steven living with his mum.
When Steven said it was impossible for Connie's mother to speak with his because she gave up her physical form for him to exist, Connie says she could tell her mum that.
But, in fact, she easily could have.
When asked by her mother about Steven's mother, all Connie needed to say was, "the day Steven was born, his mother left this world".
That isn't a lie, as, revealed in Change Your Mind, Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz, literally no longer exists.
Steven's birth rewrote her gem's inner workings, so only Steven exists now.
Plus, had Connie used that exact wording, her mother would fully understand.
She's a doctor, so would completely understand the concept of a mother giving her life during childbirth so their baby can live.
Had Connie simply gone that route, her mother might even have been more willing to let Connie hang out with Steven from the start, wanting her to be Steven's friend so he has someone to talk to and understand what having a mother is like
But that would have been a very boring episode
Rebecca Sugar is a genius.
I am my monster is my favorite episode. From the series. It perfectly highlighted what trauma is and how we navigate dealing with it and not fully acknowledging it.
Steven Universe Helped me to Deal with Trauma. 💔😥💖
Me& Lapis has a lot in Common. 💔😥💖
Same here, especially in SU:F
I'm so mad at my dad for not letting me watch the show. One day, I watched it behind his back, he then caught me, and the next thing you know, I was banned from TV for a month.
Are these themes “mature” or were we just not given the space to talk about them growing up?
Steven universe is one of those cartoons that even teens and adults watch it.
I love the way this show handled consent and toxic relationships. What a good lesson. For everyone.
It makes me sad that so many people hate on Steven Universe now.
27: War and loss can relate to Avatar: The Last AirBender
Did you know that the voice of Steven was the first voice actor to voice Prince James on Disney Junior's Sofia the first throughout season 1 and early season 2?
“Number 1: Trauma”
Me: “Uhhhh, yaaaaaas”
That Jade fusion broke my heart. I wanted to see more of her. Thank goodness for fanart.
Seriously, how come nobody were aware about this cartoon being so dramatic and how it's legit THROUGH THE ROOF??
Maybe I'm getting to carried away with this or something.
Totally need to do an episode (or a lot) covering Young Justice. That show is just as awesome as Steven Universe and deserves more attention than it gets.
Msmojo is like a crystal gem,

I was wondering if trauma was going to be on there especially with what Steven went through also when it comes to Steven universe there are quite a few serious issue moments
The one about Toxic Relationships is what happens when "soul ties" form within an abusive relationship.
Thi video is fantastic! I love Steven universe because it has the guts to tackle the subjects and be calming still. When I was a teen and I had a bad dream I would listen to the Steven universe soundtrack. I still do that to this day! :)
Steven universe also tackles abuse and I think murder which are very serious topics
I was just remembering of Steven Universe yesterday and it makes me miss the show so much! 😭 I wonder if Rebecca is planning on making another show similar to this
Yaaaaayyy, I'm not four years late!
I love this show so much. It came on at a time in my life where I really needed an escape from my reality. It's such a great show

Too bad Misanthro Pony & Lily Orchard doesn't understand Steven Universe.
The song about intrusive thoughts is a good one, too. That one specifically is important to me.
Top 10 The Owl House moments from season 2 part 1?
We didn't even get a Top 10 Moments from Season 1 of that show yet.
Though Steven Universe is about Crystal Gems, it was the most human show I had ever watched.
I've been in two toxic relationships so far and my current relationship is so much better.
I have something to mention about number 10. SU also tackled the trauma Spinel experienced and how it affected her, leaving her with symptoms of BorderLine Personality Disorder [BPD].. These examples include : Her fear of abandonment, her mood swings, impulsive decisions, attachment and relationship issues [which aren't symptoms, just effects of it], the needing of validation from the person they hold dearest, and potential self loathing and depression [from when she fought Steven and he covered the 'Change' song]. All of these are things she experiences, after years of neglect, being used, depression, loneliness/isolation, being abandoned, and what happens after Steven is done with Spinel, because she took out the injector.
The issues of self-worth and loss resonated with me the most. I faced loss 3 times in my life and struggled with thinking bad about myself. Three times I had a breakdown, and the first two were a year apart
I loved this since was introduced beginning of the series. Please Steven universe spin off in HBO max.
26: I know Spinel was hurt but I don’t know what to say for Pearl or Volleyball/Pink Pearl
The PTSD that Lapis Lazuli suffers from is very relatable
A very odd coincidence that this would be uploaded today when I started rewatching the series just last night.
I regret not understanding how back then i relate to some of the issues from steven universe apart from LGBT relationships. Especially when it came to consent and toxic relationships. The messages behind those episodes really would've saved my teenage self a lot of trouble freshman year through senior year in high school. I'd give anything to go back in time to when Steven universe started and every episode again with the knowledge i have now
*[I only wish we had more shows of this magnitude]*
Hey Peri

Can’t believe Cartoon Network traded this for shitty reboots
As someone who went through a horrible relationship that I won't mention happened in it so I don't have to put a warning when I watched jasper and lapis it hit to the core
thanks for a good tune at the start of the vid
I went through this series when the movie came out. I was 25. I was saddened and moved by some of the serious moments and usually ended episodes thinking "this is a kids show?"
I think everyone who hasn't should watch this show to learn about difference and acceptance.
Let's add Steven universe to the list of cartoons how to help this deal with serious issues
Pink Diamond had good intentions but was genuinely pretty messed up I mean omg
as a kid, i was obsessed with space, and pretty things such as gemstones. i loved fantasy, reading, playing, drawing, and i liked cartoon network! i'm also a part of the lgbtq+ community, and i have suffered from serious trauma from my childhood (which wasn't nearly as fun as what i listed made it look like). i also really do like romantic things (as long as they aren't dumb and cheesy) no matter if they're straight or gay. i found this show recently, and when i watched it, it had everything i could have asked for.

Can you do a video on top 10 times Cartoon Network tackled serious issue?
I’ve never watched this show, but, they really did tackle some serious issues! And they did it in a way that kids can ingest it! Wow! #KathyKiddEntertainment #RoadWalking
One thing that made me mad is how whenever Rose was mentioned or the Gems had a disagreement within themselves it was always Steven who tried to bring them back together, sort out the problem, he didn't want his family to break because it was Rose's job to keep them all together and because her essense is in him now it's his job to keep family together. That's a lot to put on a child none of the gems realised the emotional burden Steven was taking on and the toll it took on him and that's why Season 5 was so important. It showed us just how much Steven suffered through smiles and jolly outlook to life despite everything the poor child has been through. That Mental breakdown was LONG overdue. And it made Steven not the invincible main character, undeterred by anything that happens to him but a human infact only a child who is overwhelmed and traumatized.
