- Amoco petrol commercial from the mid 70s transferred from U-Matic videotape. This commercial features a coal miner and his late 30s/early 40s white car. The jingle was written and sung by Allan Johnston from HertzWalpole Advertising. Some years later he teamed up with Alan Morris to form advertising agency Mojo which would do jingles for many commercials in the 70s and 80s.
The tape containing this ad came from commercial director Barrie Smith's collection. - Zábava
My father owned the car used in this advertisement. I just downloaded it to show him on Christmas Day. He no longer owns the car and is in his 80’s so it was very special.
Thankyou Utube.
Hi Christine, Did your father own the Lasalle in Australia? Or the US where it lives now? Would be great to get some of the history.
That's awesome Christine. A beautiful car !!
The majority of this advert (except the mine scene at the beginning) was filmed in a Heritage listed little town named Central Tilba NSW (near Narooma on the Sapphire Coast). All the buildings shown in the advert still exist but the Amoco Service Station/General Store is now the Gulaga gallery & Bookstore. Well worth the visit to the beautiful town if you get the chance.
Was there 2 weeks ago, beautiful place!
This particular Amoco advertisement was the second television edition to broadcast in color. It was broadcast in 1976. It was the successor to the "Escape Machine" ad from 1975.
>Hi, this is fabulous! I've been searching for this for soooo very long. I am actually the
>girl who was riding the horse in this advert. It was lots of fun filming it but it was also
>a long time ago :)
WOW, that is awesome to hear. Thank you Annie. I was only a young fella when this ad was on TV (about 10-12 or so), but I sure remember the ad because of you - lovely lady riding the horse, and those old Amoco ads sure had some great catchy songs as well. "Nice clean petrol" - LOL.
A while ago, a local real estate agent and I were reminiscing about old TV ads, and he said something along these lines "Remember the old Amoco Ad ? The one with the lovely lady riding the horse ? I was 'good friends' with her at the time ! Ahhh, those were the days ....".
>I still ride and still have my horses though.
Great to hear. All the best for the future ! :)
Hi this is one of my favourite ads. Where was it filmed? I notice you were riding bareback!

As a young man I adopted the ' final filter ' when it came to marriage, thanks Amoco.
I've seen many of the '70s AMOCO ads on Unique cars and parts, but this one is new to me.
had this song in my head for years...just as i remembered it. Thanks for the post!
I'm too young to have seen this, but the first thing i said when i saw this was "That's Tilba!"
These ads swept me off my feet as a youngen. I wanted to be the hottie on the horse and marry the man of my dreams with the beautiful escape machines. A different one in each ad.
They really knew how to make dirty old petrol look romantic.
Thanks for posting this. My dad worked for Amoco in the 1970-80s and had some input in putting this ad together. The old cars and final filter thing was a feature of Amoco ads at the time. Their was a longer version of the music in this ad; I had the record of the audio as a kid.

My Dad also worked for Amoco in the 70's. I'm sure he had input into this ad, as he was the National Marketing Manager at the time. These ads bring back lots memories as a kid.
Cheers
@gregstock8729 hello again. If your dad was Amoco's marketing manager, he definitely would have known my dad who was National HR/Personnel manager. Did your dad work at the North Sydney head office?
This is definitely a blast from the past. However, this is the short version which was aired on television. I'd be to say this one is from 1976. In those days, the maximum duration of commercials aired on TV was around one minute. And a commercial was not allowed to air twice during the same break.
There was also a long version of this commercial screened at the cinemas. If you could latch onto the long version for me it would be fantastic.
Yes, would be great to find the long version !
I thought he was going to drive off the road because of the distraction...
I bet he wanted a ride as well…
mo jo I think did a lot cricket ads too come on Aussie come on
Nice, clean petrol is an oxymoron surely.
I remember this ad. Imagine escaping the hustle and bustle of a tiny country town and going down the the farm...
