    Dio commanded the stage! There are singers like Halford, Dickenson, Hagar to name a few and they are all damn good front men! But there is this certain grace, fluidity and power that radiates from him when he performs. His voice is enormous with rich deep silky smooth tones. There will never be another who can come close to Ronnie!

    MY DAD used to listen "the sign of the southern cross" with attention, the lyrics simply astounded him, his musical taste was worlds apart from mine, he liked "los panchos"," los tres diamantes", javier solís, agustín lara and the like, famous around latin américa playing music that talked about people and feelings, real feelings, that was why he liked them so much, he used to say that honest people create honest music... the day i got home with my LP of "mob rules" he was curious about the artwork on the cover, and one day he played it and enjoyed it as hell, but when that particular song started , he "felt" the lyrics not only talked to him, THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT HIM,when i got back home he told me "you know?, this guys really know about life, about feelings, and that song touched me deeply, i mean, all my life I HAD MADE LIFE A TREASURE,WITH SO MANY things out there that can confuse you, like beer, party and sex, it is hard for someone with responsibilities to set the path ahead straight, it is great to feel when somebody shares this dilemas and is able to sing about them, letting everyone know how hard it is, BUT THAT CAN BE DONE... this band really stands out with that... they are real people talking about real life. i love their music and the way the singer "feels" every note and every word he sings he shares his very soul... a shame i did not know about them before...."... my dad was 80 at that time,and he became a great fan of BLACK SABBATH AND DIO because of that song...listening this magical live version is something priceless... thanks for that memories, tanks for sharing this treasure, man...ALL HAIL DIO AND THE MIGHTY SABBATH !!!!

      Fantastic story! Thanks for sharing. Sign of the Southern Cross is one of my favorite songs of all time. I just clicked on this video. The title doesn't mention this is Black Sabbath nor full concert. I found the playlist and sign of the Southern Cross was there. I immediately clicked on it and started reading the comments and came across yours.
      Sign of the Southern Cross is playing right now as we speak. Great live production. I had the LP of Mob Rules myself, Still do. Fantastic album. Black Sabbath and Dio's best IMHO. They were rich with creativity with this one.

    Vinny Appice is really the unsung hero in this lineup. So much power and energy, and his drum tone is very disticnt. He pushes Geezer and Tony to their best and Dio too. He's killing it at 26:40 during "I" when he pulls that rack of large toms. He's a combination of John Bonham and Ian Paice but with big arms for pounding the shit out of the kit. I saw Sabbath on the '80 Heaven and Hell tour and Bill Ward was nice and raw, still had it but he was not taking care of himself. Thank God he quit. He wouldn't have made it. Seriously. They got lucky and landed Vinny Appice. Perfect fit. Then I saw the Mob Rules tour and that was a huge show, very loud with a ton of lights and a big stage. That tour and this tour here were this lineups best, IMO.

    I find it amazing how they went from one sound with ozzie, and a different sound with Dio....but the best thing they did was change their name to heaven and hell........this led the potential for a true Sabbath reunion ...But Dio did his magic with Sabbath...RIP Ronnie...i guess your running things down there in the after life ...At least until Ozzie shows up and takes over

    • @tempestfury8324
      @tempestfury8324 Před 10 lety +9

      Not sure what you mean. Any major change in a band has different outcomes, especially if it's a lead singer. Ozzy did what he could and became so uncontrollable that - well he's out! The sound changes from getter a better singer - that being Dio - but Tony was still on top of it. So, yes...it's different but the same only better! Ozzy had some great moments but he was never even close to RJD as a songwriter/singer/performer.
      Dio isn't "down there" as you suggest....I think he's exactly where he belongs. Forget all the traditional mysticism about heaven and hell....I have faith that Ronnie is rocking it with some good company. I met Ronnie in San Diego several years ago, when Wendy was managing things. He was very sincere and we had a pleasurable conversation. He was a very kind, gentle-man. Whatever thoughts or superstitions you have of him being the helmsman for Satan and hell, I have no clue. I can only give you my personal impression of the man.
      We don't know....if there truly is "Heaven and Hell", Dio was too far of a good man to be in Hell and tortured. If he missed the cut and didn't make it into Heaven...well then I don't want to be there either because he was a far greater man than me.

      @littlegoobie Před 10 lety +2

      Except for a few songs, there was very little magic in Sabbath with anybody other than Ozzy. Each of the other singers had maybe 1-3 interesting songs, but for the most part, people waited for the band to play songs from the ozzy years. ...a fact illustrated by the fact that those songs are pretty much the only songs they still play. How many times do we hear neon knights, digital bitch, Zero the Hero, or any other non-Ozzy song, even as good as they are? Dio did much better on his own after the sabbath years. His first 3 albums did okay, I have them and I remember the hits getting regular rotation on radio and tv.

    • @tempestfury8324
      @tempestfury8324 Před 10 lety +1

      ***** I'm a bit younger but not much. So now, I never saw the early shows of Ozzy with Black Sabbath. I've seen genuine live performances (not some pre-recorded then lip-synched crap) and that usually gives a fair estimation of how the shows were.
      I have to compare Ozzy and Dio. I'm a musician with a cynical and critical mind! Oh yes, Ozzy was "the Voice" of Black Sabbath and I loved most of their work. But he got completely out of control and was going to take Sabbath down with him!
      RJD simply brought new blood into the band. And yes, his voice was bah-zillions times better than Ozzy's. Ozzy cannot sing. He's possible the worst famous "singer" in rock history that made it really big. He's not unlike Peter Criss on drums really.
      Yep, The Mob Rules took a big dive - it just wasn't very good. But Heaven in Hell did just fine and was a Gold album in less than a year of it's release. Sabotage took 22 years to go Gold! Tech. Ecstasy and Never Say Die were huge flops as well. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was really the last "hit record" in the US! So what, a good five years of horrible record sales with Ozzy at the helm?
      Sure, Ozzy was the "foundation" but he was also the the "dry rot" that had to go and the whole damned house had to be rebuilt.
      Get your head out of your ass for making claims that aren't true and make an attempt to comprehend that Ozzy vs. Dio is not only a fair comparison but that single transition is what really kept Sabbath together all of these years now.
      If you had said "Paul Rodgers should have never tried on Freddie's shoes with Queen", I would agree completely. But it isn't that. Instead you have this stubborn idea that Sabbath isn't good enough without Ozzy. By sales alone - I have proven you wrong.
      Enough bullshit - just think about it before you let your heart get ahead of your head and start spewing off so called "facts".
      Cheers!

    With Dio, Sabbath was like a completely new Heavy Metal band... That's still Sabbath but a new one, a different one... Not better, just different so i can't understand why some say it's better or, it's worse... We just cannot compare (that's just a question of taste at that point)... Both were great in overall!!! And Tony Iommi is simply THE true metal-god!!! He is the main link of all Sabbath periods!

    • @AngelsHandPrint
      @AngelsHandPrint Před 5 lety +5

      I agree. Dio and Ozzy were completely two different styles, it's like comparing apples and oranges (such a cheesy idiom, btw). Tony said it himself that Ronnie would sing across the riffs whereas Ozzy would follow the riffs, and in doing so they were both unique in their own way, each in accordance with the content of their era. With Ronnie's lyrics, his singing boost the epicness whereas Ozzy's simplicity in melodies worked well with the darker theme of the early Sabbath.
