  • Benbulben (or Benbulbin), is possibly the most iconic mountain in Sligo.
We didn't have ideal conditions, and yet the mountain was still amazing.
Our route from Luke's bridge took us 3hrs round trip, walking 9.6km and climbing 407m. The total height of the Benbulben summit is 526m.

Ellie & Carl, loved the cloud hugging the hill sides, the full streams after the rain🌧and those beautiful views and rays of light out to sea as the weather cleared ☀👍

Thanks for adding subtitles! Will help when the wind is too loud and we can't hear nothing haha. Ye should go for Letrim's highest point next! Great video by the way

Ah thanks! Yeah I knew the wind in this one was very bad, no other option but to add them in.
And yes Truskmore is at the top of the list! Hoping to tick off all the Dartry mountains/hills in the next while 😄

I like Ellie's optimism in this one. But it could have been much worse, And those views with the low cloud and light breaking through were something else. I think I caught a brief glimpse of Benwiskin when you panned around, but not sure? That was my last climb in Sligo a few years back but I had to move on and didn't have time for Ben Bulben or King's Mountain. Another one ticked off then. Lovely video again. Hope you're both fighting fit once more.

Yeah, we were really quite lucky with the conditions after all! And yes, we didn't really know about Benwiskin when we did this but we will return very soon, it looks like an utterly spectacular climb!

Do you think wild camping on top is feasible?

It’s a very wet bog up there all year round, so finding a dry spot might be one of the bigger issues! 😂 it’s also very exposed. so not sure tbh!

Use waterproof socks with trail runners. Magic

We don't have a preferred brand of waterproof socks (although we've been happy with Sealskins in the past), do you have a recommendation?

Best place to climb benbulben is from the side facing sligo town better views you can see lough gill and the donrgal moountainx from the top stunning views, wouldn't advise cllimbing this mountain in damp or wet weather the mountain is treacherous in wet weather, a number of people have died over the years on this mountain

We shared the route up from the bridge as I think it’s much safer than climbing from the Sligo side - which is beautiful! But as you said, it can be dangerous. Such inspiring mountains in this area ☺️
