My son went to a charter school in the hood but they poured all the money into the school - they got the latest tech/had the highest scores that’s why I sent him their. All black students, All white female teachers. And they were NOT sensitive to our children. They labeled boys aggressive for showing any emotions. Wrote kids up for not having a pencil, homework, getting out of seat to pick up dropped pencil, ignored them when they raised their hands to get up or speak. They never talked to the kids to get understanding just issued out disciplinary actions for EVERY little thing. It really messed my son up, he came home crying everyday thinking he was a horrible person. I removed him and told the black male principal about himself for allowing this to go on under his watch!

I'm so sorry this happened to your son. This is wrong on so many levels, and I pray your son is healing from this ordeal. There has to be more accountability and just decency with charter schools, and public schools (like where I teach) for that matter.
You should have made it hot for THEM- they built that school for your children and you let the white gatekeepers run u up out of there! So now your kid doesn’t get the top notch education intended for him. The black parents should have made a big thing. The community would’ve supported you.
But that’s what they do systematically- the make it uncomfortable for us, we concede and they move their ppl in. They tried to do this to me at a brand new, state-of-the-art doctors office intended for us. They kept telling me the drs weren’t taking anymore appts, kept trying to diagnose me over the phone so I don’t come on & I wasn’t the only one. I started putting the insurance company on the speaker phone every time I came in. I would rile up the other black patients.

The student stated in her video that she was aware that not re-writing the essay would impact her grade,she was ok with that. Why the professor found it necessary to continue the conversation &try to embarrass the student is why it escalated. In multiple videos I saw from the class that day the professor was accused of yelling at the student first by multiple students . The professor replied at one point with " because..." (I couldn't understand what she said after that) seemingly admitting to starting the chaos. We want kids to be accountable for themselves, their action and the repercussions. The student did that and the professor embarrassed her for it
these people be grown for the most part so talk to them like young adults/adults and being civil will most likely resolve the issue! some teachers get entitled off of power and titles and let that go to their head

I was in a similar incident, the teacher falsely accused me of talking, I stayed, calmly cursed the teacher out and she said she felt threatened and wouldn’t allow me to complete my final. She had tenure so the board did not care because I “jeopardized her safety”. They didn’t care about witnesses or that the teacher was dead wrong*

Al, I saw the story about the WSSU student very differently when it was presented on Roland Martin Unfiltered on Thursday. In addition to the fact that the Professor began the altercation, as a professor, she has received HORRIBLE reviews. There was NO reason for the professor to allow this young lady to be arrested.

100% agree. I don’t care how the university or her colleagues view her-the students that spend time day to day in the classroom are the subject matter experts on this lady and I believe their take before any faculty at WSSU, no matter what frat they are affiliated with. Once you as the professional become unprofessional, then it is fair game.
I work at a university, I am giving the faculty the side-eye. Don't look at the committees she is a part of as proof of her character. Also trustees members are generally corrupt and their interest is to protect the institution.

The school to prison pipeline is often cited, but this is the first time that I have seen it demonstrated on a collegiate level. What's really important to note is how easily someone can be cast into the criminal justice system even though they have not committed a discernable crime.

I had a similar situation in a class on campus. It was regarding an ambiguous question on an exam. I was calmly spoken and respectful throughout. The professor called the police on me. The school responded the same way. Triggering.
lol americans call the police for every minor inconvenience or moment of feeling uncomfortable. In my country unless its a life or death situation the police is not coming. Which is how it is supposed to be. New flash police are EMERGENCY RESPONDERS not personal bodyguards or mediators. police should not be in a classroom unless somebody was stabbed or shot let the deans, principals, educators, parents and board of education deal with this petty stuff because it is not an emergency and no-one is in immediate danger

The issue with Al’s take is that the rest of the students have come out to speak against the teacher. Despite what the school had to say about her years there, all the students are saying the same thing. The rest of the faculty isn’t in the room, the students are.

Regarding the black student arrested at The HBCU Story, Al conveniently left out a few things. One, several students in the video who were witnesses to the event, confirmed that the teacher initiated the incident by her tone and language. In other words, the professor was disrespectful towards the student and the student, understandably reacted. (For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction so one can’t get upset if the reaction is greater than what the instigator started). Furthermore, it was the duty of the instructor to de-escalate the situation, which she should have controlled. The problem was, SHE (the professor) lost control and was unable to regain control. If this student was unruly to the point where she couldn’t handle it, why didn’t SHE contact campus police? According to Al and other outlets reporting the story, ANOTHER instructor called the police. In my opinion as a college employee, the professor could have simply disengage in the back and forth with this student, refer her to the Dean of Students, and continued teaching her class. Additionally, what law was broken? None. As the cop, if she was asked to leave the classroom, I would have insisted that the student face no repercussions upon leaving the classroom, escort her out of the classroom for that day, and allow both parties to handle this administratively with the College Dean of the University. I would not have arrested her under NO circumstances over a disagreement. That’s what the job of Dean of Students . Just because she is the professor doesn’t excuse bad or unprofessional behavior.

I originally saw this story on Roland Martin Unfiltered. We saw this the same way. Among the things that this incident illustrates is how easily we are fed into the prison pipeline. No criminal act was committed, yet she has been thrust into the penal system.

The assistant professor should have spoken to the student outside the class. Students don’t always handle the situation best when addressed in front of everyone about a grade both sides are WRONG

Nick should have bought an estate , created a subdivision something. If all the children were in the same area and went to the same schools it would be much easier to give them more time.
