  • We have owned our GeoPro for 18 months and have learned a lot about it along the way (mostly trial and error!). In this video we give you some tips based on those things we learned as well as tackle some of the questions we see online frequently.
    While we have the GeoPro 19fbs, many of these tips will work for the other GeoPro models as well as many other campers as well.
    We discuss the basic operations of some of the items in the camper, a hack to get more airflow from the frameless windows, and discuss the manual overrides that are available to the tongue jack, awning and slide.
    For seasoned campers, some of this may be already known but hope we were able to give you a few tips as well! And for those that may be new to camping - we hope we help you navigate your new adventure as well as so many CZcamsrs did for us when we were starting out!
    In the video I mention the manual slide video we found on CZcams that we think is the most helpful - Schwintek In-Wall Slide System (Trouble Shooting Tips) by Lippert Components.

    Good afternoon to you two! This is a great video and so well presented! These are definitely tips to be aware of to prevent or fix items that could delay or cancel a trip! And, to boot, some of these items are not specific to geo pros. One of my main take aways from this is to MAKE SURE you have a wrench/socket for every manual item in the event that the electric motor goes kaput. And...those touchy swinteck slide tracks will be on the rig that we've ordered. I'll me making a slide retention stick before departing!

    Great videos! Wife and I just put down a deposit on a 2023 16BH. This helps me plan to be ahead of everything before it arrives. After watching a several of your videos I did add another solar panel to the rig which should give me 400 watts. Hopefully that will help with boondocking. Also advised the dealer to remove the flooded batteries as I plan on two LiFePO4 batteries. Dealer wanted over 1K for each, I think not I'll bring my own. I did speak to Forest River and they added an auto selector for the batteries on the 2023 models so shouldn't be an issue.

    I have a 2018 19FBS and love it. Had a couple issues that were covered under warranty: fridge compressor died, and my awning motor died too. Luckily the Awning was not extended. The stove seems a bit flimsy and the cover rattles off every trip, but that's easy to set right at the campsite. The trailer tows wonderfully.

      2018 was the first year I believe? They really do tow great and are pretty sturdy overall. Have had a few small issues as well but that we expect as it is a camper lol. Glad the fridge and awning were under warranty - imagine those would be expensive. And agree on the stove (we don’t have the oven). We have to frequently tighten everything up as well. But overall we have been very happy as well!

    A word of warning on the factory-installed inverter: When I received mine, the inverter was running all the time. Fortunately, it was hooked up to shore power, so it didn't kill the batteries, but I couldn't figure out what the fan noise was, and the indicator light on the remote switch wasn't on. I eventually figured out where the inverter was (it's under the forward dinette seat on my 19QB), and after getting out the inverter manual, I discovered that the main power switch was in the wrong position. Turning the main switch on disables the remote switch. All I had to do was flip the switch off, and now the remote switch works.

    Pretty sure she's a juvenile black widow. Her color will fill in as she ages. The brown widow's body shape is slightly different, a bit more crusty looking. And living near SoCal deserts I've gotten to know both of the little buggers quite well. And they're my least favorite companions when working on my own RV. All bitey and skittery and they won't even hand me a single tool when I ask no matter how nicely. Just hangs there in her web, judging with all those beady little eyes...
    Thank's for all the specifics on the Geo Pro. That window hack was sweet as hacks go. Nice one! Our next rig is looking likely to be either the FBS or the FD. That murphy bed is put together far better that it lets on to. I looked at one at a dealer and the sales guy was kind enough to let me really dig into it.
    One thing that's hard to envision on the FD until you see one in person is how when the murphy is up it feels as open as a slide equipped model but without having a slide. And even with the bed down nothing is inhibited. My only wish is that on the FDS (FD with a slide) Rockwood would offer an option with the galley curbside and with your sofa in the slide. It would be very roomy in there with that config when the murphy bed is up. That would be perfect for the wife and I.

    • @WinesPinesandCanines
      @WinesPinesandCanines  Před 3 lety

      Hahaha on the spiders not being handy! And yes - we were pretty sure that it was a black widow and makes you take a second look before reaching in anywhere! We have found them in concrete blocks but was surprised to find it in with the propane.
      Glad you enjoyed the video! And yes, we were a little unsure on the murphy bed lasting which is one reason we chose the FBS but looking at Facebook groups online, people are very happy with that model as well so we are encouraged by the construction. And you are correct - it does feel roomy (and we really liked the bigger bath!)
      I agree on the new FDS. I have also heard that (but haven't confirmed in person) you can't put the bed down with the slide in. If that is true, makes it difficult for things like quick overnights where you don't want to put the slide out.
      Thanks for watching and safe travels!

    1:37 I think Rockwood has changed the design of that window latch. I just bought a 2021 19BH, and had to order parts to fix two windows that were broken by the previous owners kids. The new scissor piece that rivets in is less than half the size. I thought they gave me the wrong part, but ordered again through a different dealer, and got the same thing. It looks far more durable, so that's good.

    When you were demonstrating the temperature control for the fridge I noticed the thermistor wasn't connected. That little round knob on the end of the white wire that's laying below the plastic slide should actually be inserted into the slide. Holy schamolizes, what an excellent and helpful video. I have a question if you have ever had a similar experience. I have a GeoPro 2019 FD. I have an ongoing issue with the solar panel. It will work for several days then stop charging. If I go up on the roof and disconnect the solar panel and touch both the positive and negative polls from the solar panel with a wire it arches and starts charging again. I have been to GOPower and a RV service center. Neither can tell me why this is happening.

Have you contacted Forest River - maybe they have someone they recommend in the area? Please keep us updated!

      @WinesPinesandCanines  Před 2 lety

      Thank you- appreciate the kind words! So that just happened to us as well - it wouldn't go up anymore. Took the valance off (if you get underneath you can unscrew the valance without having to take the bracket out of the wall). Then it was easier to get to the shade. On ours, there were little wheels on either side that tighten / loosen. We just played with it for a bit and it did tighten back up and works again.
      We have it on the list to do a quick video before we reinstall everything. But I couldn't find the brand either. If it still won't work, I would contact Forest River - you should be able to buy a replacement. It does just snap on and off brackets once you remove the valance. Hope that helps!

      Thank you for the positive comment and the watch! So, there are a few pretty active Facebook groups for GeoPro/Epro owners. Haven't heard of any scheduled yet and the last few years have been difficult for group organizing but have seen more people inquiring on the groups mostly region by region. Maybe this summer. Will keep watch out and let you know if we hear anything!

    Hello, just found your channel and this video by chance. I have a 19FD EPro and like you said the models are basically the same. After watching your video I just got done fixing my blind shade that fell off and also moved up the plastic finn in the refrigerator. I turned off the battery seeing that our unit is hooked up to electrical in our garage and i might tackle the window opening soon. I tried to turn off the inverter but it won't go off so I'll have to figure that out. I will subscribe to your channel and see what else you can help me with. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO.

      Thank you for the very kind comment and glad it was helpful! For the inverter - not sure where the actual inverter is in the 19fd (ours is behind a panel in the closet) but there is a switch on ours that allows for remote function (i think it says “remote” on the actual inverter box). You may need to switch that on or off for the green light to operate on the panel that is visible. We have never had that issue but have seen others that did and believe that solved it.

      We bought the following off Amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0071L3SO6?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=1
      It has been great - we can back up without taking the bars off which is one of the reason we chose it. Also - the Anderson weight distribution hitches are very popular from what we read. As far as towing, the tundra does great - we hardly know it’s back there! But that also makes it hard to keep to under 65 mph as the tundra does not want to go that slow haha. We did install the hitch ourselves but then had our mechanic tighten everything. We would recommend if you haven’t towed before, purchase your hitch and have the dealer install so it’s at the right height, etc. They can then show you how to hitch and unhitch. Linda had not towed the camper before this year. We showed that in another of our videos but she was surprised how easy it towed. Takes some getting used to with turns, pulling into traffic and definitely backing up. Practicing in an area with little to no traffic is a good way to get experience. Thanks for watching and if you have any other questions please reach out. Will help if we can!

      Hi! Thanks for watching and congrats on the new camper! So, we never installed one. Rockwood provided one but was up to owners to install. We didn’t want to install on the wall as such a tight space. The side of the cabinet is so close to shower, we figured it would get wet there. So, we keep it in the lower cabinet or on the floor tucked back by the wall common to the fridge. We have seen a few people mount it to the inside of the door on the cabinet though which seems like it would be a good spot! Hope that helps!

    Thinking about getting a geo-pro,lightly used hopefully. Any thoughts on the fridge? I’m used to a 3 way fridge. Would you prefer the 2-way for any reason? Why did they go to the 12V only on the newest and what do you think of them? I’d mostly be hooked to shore power,very occasionally boondocking but do need my dog food cold (fresh meat) for dog shows on so me times very long drives.

    • @WinesPinesandCanines

      We have a 2 way - propane and electric only. Would love to have the option of running it off the battery like the 3 way provides. The new 12V fridges seem to be a popular trend - have seen them in a few different manufacturers lately. From what we have read with owners, they seem to be happy overall. Its a bigger fridge inside and gets cool quite a bit quicker. But they do use more battery than the 2 way. If you have a good battery setup with solar and sun, I would think it would be a good option. And if I did mostly shore power / campgrounds - would think this would be a much better option. Hope that helps!

If it is only happening on travel days - do you have the camper plugged into your tow vehicles 7pin connector? Hi - thanks for watching! We haven't had any issues. We did the mod to two of the windows and they have been just fine over the past 18 months.
      But, we have seen others remove them completely or cut most of the plastic piece away - not sure we would do that much. The little metal arms may at that point extend too far and possibly break. They are repairable (we did a video on parts and troubleshooting the frameless windows recently) but it isn't a simple or inexpensive repair.
      But, just cutting a small portion off has made a big difference and we haven't had any issues so far! Hope that helps!

    • @WinesPinesandCanines
      @WinesPinesandCanines  Před 13 dny

      So we could have removed it - the metal arms would just extend fully out. But, didn’t want to put too much pressure on those and end up having to replace. Removing some of the rubber piece gave us enough air but we also feel those arms aren’t over extended that way. We figured - start with some and see if it helps!

    I might add that all 120V outlets, both inside and out "pass through" the inverter. If you overload the AMPs on any outlet you can trip the breaker on the inverter. (i did it with a induction cook-top outside) This will cut power to every outlet, but not trip the GFI in the bathroom or the 120V breaker on the panel under the fridge. Make sue you know where inverter is and located the reset button on it to resume 120V. I have a 2019 that FR mounted the inverter in the most inaccessible place possible. Under the bed deck in the corner, in front of the furnace, but behind the furnace duct work. unbelievable. Newer ones the moved it to the closet behind a panel. I cussed FR like the sailor I am, to located it. To get to it, you have to remove the drawer under the bed, lay on the floor, reach inside and feel your way over the duct work and down to the bottom of the inverter to find the reset button. Just look at the control switch on the bed deck and imagine the inverter mounted on the other side of the panel.

      So sorry if we didn’t reply - thought we had but don’t see a reply so going to try again! Completely agree - we regularly tripped the inverter by running a coffee pot and electric heater early in the morning. Needed the coffee to think clearly haha. And yes - they do love to hide that inverter! Found ours behind a panel in the closet and drilled a hole so we could reach in and reset. Yours sound much more difficult to access!

    So if you use your showermizer. Boondocking or not. The water that comes out of your shower go's back into your fresh water tank? That sounds gross. Unless I'm missing something. Would'nt that make your fresh water unsuitable for drinking and cooking if you did that?

    • @WinesPinesandCanines
      @WinesPinesandCanines  Před 7 měsíci +1

      So it’s the freshwater tank that recirculates. Not the grey. Instead of turning on the water and letting it run to get hot (wasting water into the grey), the water recirculates through the lines (it doesn’t come out of the shower head or faucet - just goes straight back to the fresh). So it is freshwater recirculating - not the shower gray water. Then when the shower miser turns color, you know the water is hot, turn the knob and the hot water comes out of the shower head. It was strange to us the first time but a neat feature for boondocking!
