  • Today on Buckle Up, Harry and Rob test the new Mazda CX-60 which turned out to be a bit of a surprise. With a straight six diesel engine and ‘bread van’ good looks, this entry into the premium SUV space is very compelling indeed.
    Up against rivals like the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Audi Q5, Range Rover Velar, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail, Volvo XC60, Tesla Model Y, Ford Kuga, Vauxhall Grandland, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson.

    When Harry said “Mazda never made a car in this space … and everybody stopped and Mazda “said” there is a niche there” ….. replicates what they did with the MX5 …

      Very true, let's see if this has similar staying power

    When you were driving and said you can’t explain how it feels, I think that’s what the Mazda engineers said about the rider and the horse becoming one.
    Love your review on this one, and yes, I love diesel SUVs.

    I think these are excellent. The higher trim levels look genuinely premium and Mazda have really gone to town on the interior. The 6 cylinder diesel engine only further adds to its appeal.

    This is excellent for anyone who wants a new car, but who doesn’t like the issues new cars come with.

    I have this car in Coral Red Metallic. It looks fabulous and it's still rare which I like. But. The ride is not good enough for what is supposed to be a premium car. On our potholed roads it crashes and bounces around. On smooth roads its great to drive with loads of power for overtaking. I am getting over 54mpg. A much better car than the PHEV version.

      20 inch but high wall tyres. Strange combination of bounce and crash on potholed roads. Smooth and quiet elsewhere.

      I was seriously considering this as it looks lovely on the road and as it's new, there are not many on the roads. What is putting me off on buying one is the ride comfort over our horrible UK roads. Mazda do make luxurious interiors.

    Mazda are offering a free suspension upgrade and software update for the transmission to fix the ride issues

    The amount of nonsense EV cars out there is absolutely a waste of time. Big displacement of diesel enigne that works well for long cruising is king. When fuelling up, it's a matter of a minute or two. Not spending hours looking for a plug! Owning a ev is an absolute nightmare

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It depends on what you need your car for, for a lot of people an EV works well, but there are still many people for who they don't work at all

      @@BuckleUpShow Yep. Great for some (including me) but depends on individual needs and circumstances. If you're in a position to have a home charger, that's a game changer! Easier and more convenient than having to visit a petrol/diesel station.

      @user-wb1no6ds7x Před 2 měsíci

      @scottgordon2688 fair point, and having a home charger the good thing is you know whether the charger works or not. No need to guess or try

      @@BuckleUpShow Petrol trucks could not deliver heavy loads without costing a sht tonne of petrol to run and had no low rpm peak power to do what the diesel engine does with relative ease. So petrol trucks faded out and ceased to exist.
      Un-economical and impractical.
      Petrol hybrid trucks? That's going to be a joke. Let's see those things pull a heavy load up a hill.
      Battery-powered trucks running off batteries charged with windmill power? solar panels? hydroelectric? geothermic?
      Impractical.
      Tractors running on petrol? hybrids? Electric tractors?
      More shts and giggles than a million in cash can buy.
      The wokies are going to learn a very bitter lesson when the supermarket shelves are bare.

      Diesel is vital if you're towing unless you want massive v-a million petrol engine which drinks fuel, and it's still the most economical way to travel a long distance

    • @byronnightingale5550

      BS. Modern diesel powertrains are far cleaner than batteries. Where do the virgin materials come from? Toxic mines, child labour, hmm. Where do old EV batteries go? I bet they are not recycled to the extent one might imagine. A mild hybrid battery will take less of these toxic materials at the least, unlike those overweight batteries in EVs. all this battery stuff is contributing to trouble. Too much EV kool-aide maybe?
