My oldest son and I are going to track day at the Hill March 10 2018. Looking forward to it. Your walk through was excellent... we are watching them daily since we’ve never been there. Just did Laguna Seca last month...

Thanks for your attention to detail. will being going for first time in Oct 2021 in the GT2 911(425 hp) that I am buying this week, transitioning from my 01 Boxster S. I just started tracking 8 months ago and I have to learn all over! Damn!

Great guide for the back half of the course! Done the 3-mile many times but doing my first track day on the 5-mile this Friday.

Thanks. You're going to have a blast on the 5-mile. Not clear from the registration, but I expect they will be running the bypass on the west side. If so, turn in and apex for 7W will be earlier and you'll skip 8W, 9W and 10W. Take a look at some of my recent videos to see it, as well as the updated curbs on the west side (the main difference is 3w, which is much flatter now and allows you to cut and carry more speed).

You weren’t wrong. Had an absolute blast. Ran bypass on both sides (east and west).

    Great guide on Thunderhill!
Been looking for videos of the track to learn some beforehand, and this helped a lot!

Thank you for posting this! I have a race there this weekend and I've never seen the track, so this is very helpful 👍

You Lucky Dog :-) Take a look at this lap from Nov 2019 for a more recent view of the track: czcams.com/video/NhjW6iHU3IY/video.html

@@carsashimi that video is good, but I noticed that you kept turning left to the bypass where I'm going to have to go right (up the hill). We'll be taking a different bypass - the one that skips turns 8, 9 and 10.

You have an exceptional video guide for Thunderhill. I'm saying that as a driver who has maybe 1500-2000 laps on the three mile over the years, including the 25hr. Kept saying to myself "exactly" or "yeap" to your advice. Some nuanced differences, but well considered advice. Love to see you do the same thing for 3 mile -- "East". Seems as if most clubs have abandoned the 5 mile. The track is tortuous and tight, especially on its own.

Wow, thanks for the positive feedback.

A couple of additional notes based on a more recent visit to the track:
9C - since I made this video a curb has been added at the first apex on the right which you can cut to carry more speed than before and still stay right for the next left.
10C - It's quicker for me to stay off the curb on the right when rejoining the old track. It has a steep angle in it and I found driving over this one a good way to initiate a drift, which was fun, but not fast.
More recently the apex kerb at T8 has been widened and flattened, making this turn faster. Also, the triangle piece at the apex of 3W has been re-don, making it flatter and easier to cut over .

    What dashcam are you using?

    • @carsashimi

Might have been a contour roam at the time. I've since switched to a gopro. The data comes from an Aim Solo DL, and then racerender does the overlay.

What are you using for the video and how do you have it mounted; it appears you are driving an RX8 and that is my car also. Thanks.
