  • I wanted to make a video for those of you who were like me and do not want to spend the $2,000 on a everyday bed slide. I've used a piece of half inch plywood as my base ply, and a piece of 3/4 in plywood as my top sheet.

Great idea. I used the same rollers and track for my garage elevator. They are really strong and not that expensive. If I ever do get another truck I'm going to use your idea except I'm going to make a 7" tall box beneath the entire assembly to be able to put step ladders, paint poles, shovels, etc. underneath the slide out. That's an idea I saw from the tray they built on the video section of Fine Homebuilding Magazine about 10 years ago.

I kind've did the same thing except I didn't have a lock latch. But seeing how yours work I'll be doing the same thing. I also sprayed the bottom sheet with bedliner on the top so it matched the box of my truck.

I am in the same situation. I want a tonneau cover. And a toolbox under it. But a bed slide is exorbitantly expensive for my budget. I like your ideas. I'll try it, for myself, and buy a tonneau cover later, too. And slide my toolbox out when I need it.

Gave me an idea for my 4x8 trailer. I have to haul furniture a lot. Lately been using an old table leaf to push a dresser let's go say then lift up but I then have to slide into trailer. Be easier to slide the bed out, load items onto 2 2x4 sheets with rails then slide out and lower down. that C conduit is strong. All I need to do is add a simple furring strip along the rollers edge to keep on track as it is pushed back into trailer. Do like those trolley wheels. I do have a bunch of caster wheels that fit the channel too.

A cable system like a hood latch release mounted under neath so you dont have to keep track of that red cord to release the lock.
Your design is really good and I imagine even with weight on it it will open and close with little effort.

A 2 piece design would be cool. Say lock the front half all the way up and lock the rear out past the tailgate for longer loads. And make it so they can be locked together to use like you have here.

What a great system. I love it when trades design their own tool boxes. I've had an idea of getting some garage door track, placing some wheels onto some plywood and using this as the base for a pullout bed liner. Finding this track has proven to be a real headache. Could you please tell me where I could find those ball bearings you used? I actually have unistrut but could never find the wheels that would fit inside. Like you, I'm not paying $1500 for Decked System. Thank you. If you have anymore ideas about open bed truck storage, please make a video and pass them on.

Nice job. I built mine about a year ago and posted it on utube. I wonder if
You saw my video. I am also an Electrician.
It’s the best thing I ever did for my truck. I ended up selling it. It was a 1998 Silverado. I just bought a 2017 Silverado . I am going to do the same thing my tailgate is at an angle so I need to get longer tailgate cables. Otherwise the pull out hits it. Awesome job! I couldn’t believe all the good feedback I got when I was out in public using itI live in Colorado.

I love it, I actually store my bullshit plywood as a woodworker in the area that’s about the size of the back your truck. I’m trying to figure out a way that it can slide out so it’s easier to.
Here’s my question for you, as I look at your bed of your truck, you have, the trolleys but in between that you have what looks to be metal pieces and I’m wondering what the purpose of those are.
