    “Inumano fratel” / “Stille Amare” (Tolomeo) lyrics
    “Inumano fratel” (Tolomeo)
    Inumano fratel, barbara madre,
    ingiusto Araspe, dispietata Elisa,
    Numi, o furie del Ciel, Cielo nemico,
    implacabil destin, tiranna sorte,
    tutti, tutti v’invito
    a gustare il piacer della mia morte.
    Ma tu, consorte amata,
    non pianger, no, mentre che lieto spiro;
    basta che ad incontrar l’anima mia,
    quando uscirà dal sen, mandi un sospiro.
    Inhuman brother, barbarous mother,
    unjust Araspe, pitiless Elisa.
    gods, or furies of heaven, hostile heaven,
    implacable destiny, tyrannical fate,
    all of you, I invite all of you
    to taste the pleasure of my death.
    But you, my cherished lover,
    don’t cry, no, for I am happy;
    let it be enough that when you encounter my soul
    leaving my breast, you send a sigh.
    “Stille amare” (Tolomeo)
    Stille amare, già vi sento
    tutte in seno, la morte chiamar.
    Già vi sento smorzare il tormento,
    già vi sento tornarmi a bear.
    Bitter drops, I already feel you
    in my chest beckoning death.
    I already feel you extinguishing my torment,
    I already feel you returning me to happiness.

    At first, when my voice teacher wanted me to sing this, I didn't really like it. After listening to it a couple times, I began to appreciate the beauty of the song, especially the accompaniment. It's not the type of song I would normally listen to, but I like it nonetheless. And I needed the countertenor version, so thank you!

    How does it happen that I, who has never really cared for opera, have tear in my eyes when I listen to it?
    Also, the video is beautiful.
    Thank you, Anthony.

    the singing is pretty good (not my favourite rendition of Stille Amare but well done), but the video does not make any sense with the music: not at a story level, nor visually (except for the raindrops at one point), nor emotionally. They live like in two different planes. So the overall product is a bit meh

    • @awk_ward
      @awk_ward Před 3 lety

      If i understand right, in the opera Tolomeo had saved Alexander, though he s his enemy. Something similar is happening in this video, isnt it?

    • @gfhit7520
      @gfhit7520 Před 3 lety

      @@awk_ward yes and no. What you say is right, but it happens at the beginning of the opera whereas Stille Amare is at the end where many more things have happened (and the rescue of Alessandro doesn't even play a significant role overall, really -Alessandro, after all, is not a villain role in the opera as he is a decent fellow)

  • @serenaluce

    Opera isn't just about professional filmmaking. It's impossibly boring! The voice is absolutely empty and devoid of any human feelings and emotions!...

    • @serenaluce
      @serenaluce Před 4 lety

      And you, my dear, must be reincarnation of Handel himself if you know exactly how he intended it to be sung, and if you think that tastes don't differ, and YOUR opinion is more accurate than MINE! LOL

      U know he is a cancer survivor singer right? (A cancer on his throat!!!) And he is singing...

    • @7382932
      @7382932 Před 4 lety +1

      So if tastes differ and you no one can be Handel how can you define what "opera" should be and then go on to describe why the his voice "is" empty and devoid as oppose what you feel it is like.
      Actually Handel has written in detail how he would like pieces performed, tradition has carried on technique and 100s of years of study have gone in the art.
      You obviously didn't like the piece itself because it's slow and study without any ball crushing high notes. But you are too arrogant and self-centred to accept criticism or even make a personal opinion. Instead you have to pretend to know Handel, opera and emotional expression in music.
      You are the perfect example of a philistine...

      @@savioalves1234 No, I didn't know it. I feel sorry for him but I didn't know that this video is about cancer or somebody's medical conditions. I commented only on what I heard and saw in this video. If you are his fan it's for you to sympathize with him, but the whole world doesn't have even to know it. He is not Jose Carreras...What do you imply? That if somebody is sick and still sings everybody should automatically admire his art?!...
