Jerm and Uli commentary was fantastic.
It's awesome seeing alot of the big named Pros play one of our local flagship courses.
I think Big Juli commentary is my favorite, they're able to tease each other and seem to have a really great relationship

These 2 guys together are a great commentator pair.. The subtle trash talk throughout the 2 parts of this round was hilarious.

Thanks again Jomez, Big Jerm and Paul for doing an excellent job on the video and commentary. This is a local course for me and it's awesome to see the best in the game playing it. I agree with some of the comments on pars. Thank you Big Jerm and Paul for giving a fair assesment to what the locals think of as our "Crown Jewel" in this area. I hope this tournament happens again next year and i hope all of you return to play it.

Uli's tee shot on 17 is one of the prettiest OB shots I've ever seen.

Fiiiiiiiiiinallly woods golf to end the year on tour. This is drama to watch. When it gets down to a close battle these tight fairways will seem like walls. Love the coverage. Commentary is one notch better than Billy Crump.

James Conrad is the new school MJ in my opinion. Just with aviars instead of comets. Same temperament and everything. Only difference is he slows down on his shots and MJ plays like he has a "very important date". I thoroughly enjoy both though. Also Iam very much so enjoying this commentary team. Paul might be a little harsh on himself at times, but it's hard to watch yourself not play up to your full potential. I'm just glad we get to watch disc golf pretty much EVERY weekend because these guys take the time out of their personal lives to film when they could be playing themselves. Damn this comment is long, sorry.
I was in Kentucky a couple months ago and played idlewild I really wish I had played on a different day as it was 98℉ and somewhere north of 80% humidity. the course was beautiful but utterly crushed me and my buddy.

Awesome footage, and a great commentary duo. Thanks for this Jomez Crew! (A lot more 'listenable' than Ledgestone IMO). Extra side comment: I was really impressed with the shot calls that James Conrad made throughout the round (risking the long upshot after going out of bounds to save the birdie on 16, but then also just pitching out and playing position instead of going for something big from the rough on 18 - he really seemed to know what to throw and when to throw it)

He was scheduled for the last feature card, but dropped out. He knew Idlewild was more than his fragile constitution could handle.
Nikko was here a few years ago and played very well...

Hi Big Uli, thanks for commentingNot that it affect my game as I never jump put, but @ 9:44 Uli makes an interesting comment. Would you care to elaborate? It's a situation people may discuss and/or play differently regarding jump puts.

hacklemoose guessing disc was on the line and instead of marking it and being inside circle 1 he left the disc down and jump putted just outside the circle.
I don't understand why they spend so much time talking about par, your score is going to be the same at the end whether they count it as a 3 or a 4.
Is hole 13 also part of a putt putt golf course?!
17/18 of this course plays as a fair test to the pros... but #17 needs to be made a par 4. I'd be curious to see the percentage of tee shots that find the OB on that hole. Seems way over the top in difficulty.
But where is the willmore coverage from a week ago...

I've played this course many times, around Hebron we consider that if you play Idlewild regularly, your good by association. Next time your in town, you should check out Lincoln Ridge aka "Banklick" park. By far my favorite course in this area. Harbin park in Cincinnati Ohio is awesome as well. I enjoy the PDGA coverage, keep them coming.
BTW if you shoot -1 under par on this course, you had a great day.
Ledgestone followed by Idlewild. They sure aren't making it easy for the pros.

A lot of the courses on the east coast are like this in the woods and I believe it makes you a way better player with better accuracy and strength. Any open fairway under 400 feet can be parked so easily if you know what you're doing.
Paul... you played fairly decent and you don't need to have a excuse for every mistake you make. We know this is a hard course and me all need mistakes. No need for all the excuses
I feel like some of the pros have been spoiled by playing so many courses where they *expect* to shoot 15 down; this layout was designed to make par a 1000-rated round.
You are correct Jesse. In 1997, Fred and I had many conversations discussing how to design this course to play like a U.S. Open ball golf course. 20 years later, it is great to see the best players come here to play. I wish I was 37 again instead of 57 now. :-)

Very insightful/detailed/entertaining commentary and excellent, in-sync multi-camera work.
Not wanting to be too critical... but, watch at 36:00, Jerm could have perhaps saved a par if he had straddled to the left and thrown a backhand anhyser around the left/wide side of the trees/down the fairway instead of trying to forehand through a small gap. Anyone agree??? I know from watching several of his rounds, that Jerm prefers to throw forehand approach shots. Also, his 5th throw, he maybe pulls his left foot from behind his mini just before release??? No one could have made the call in real time though. :-)
Sorry Jerm, I was wrong. Your right foot was actually behind your marker disc on your 5th throw, and you did not foot foul. Thanks again for your great work on these videos.
koling talks about how much of an advantage and necessity it is to have a RHFH for this course......the guy who doesnt have that wins against everyone else who does....
I walked this as a fan 3x over past two days. The video, as always, kinda is deceiving. I think the lines are a bit more fair in real life than they looked on video. But on the slipside the video nearly hides the massive elevation change. I agree with some other posters, some holes are too much, where really good shots = disaster and misthrows are good. Or, too much random luck. But it is very gorgeous.
I've heard a lot of good things about this course, but after seeing pros play and struggle with it, I can't say I'd ever go out of my way to play it. I know it's faux pas to cut down trees, but seriously, like 20ish trees need to be removed from the fairways of this course to make it an actual disc golf course. They're called FAIRways for a reason. As it stands, it's just throwing a frisbee through the woods and praying you don't hit anything. That's not how disc golf should be played.
I thoroughly disagree. I made Idlewild a stop on a cross country trip. After helping to design courses and playing for years, this course blew my mind. Not only is it gorgeous, it's tests bring every shot you have to the plate with range and angles being your silverware. I got plenty of bad shots off, but the lines I hit have stayed with me. This course is a mecca with its tributes to PDGA members and stands to many players as one of the difficult exams for Advanced and Pro.
I'm nowhere near pro level and have played this course on a vacation trip. I personally love the fact that the pros are having the same issues that everyone else will have. The other big tour stops with the huge open bombs do not provide any insight to the true skill they have besides being able to throw 450+. I'd be really interested to hear how you feel "disc golf should be played".
You are not praying that you don't hit anything, you aim and hit the lines like a champ.
Could not agree more. First 6-7 holes looked a bit more fair but from 8-18 there are lots of improvements to be done. Also hole 17 WTF :P
I feel disc golf should be played by rewarding good shots and punishing bad shots. On this course, a good shot could be punished just as much or more than a bad shot. Take, for instance, hole 15 on the lead card, final round: Paul McBeth plays a good placement hyzer off the tee of maybe 450'. He then proceeds to crush his second drive probably 550' with the most beautiful line you could ever imagine and lands about 20' from the basket. But, oh, guess what, after a 1000' hole with OB on the left and right the entire way, there is a 15' radius island green with OB all around it and after that amazing shot, which I consider the best shot of the entire tournament, Paul lands OB and gets a penalty.
This is just one example of the "unfairness" of this course and how it can easily punish good...great...even spectacular shots.

Alright, prerequisite for designing a course should be a fundamental knowledge of how discs fly when thrown by professionals. Seems like this designer didn't have that.
lmao... ya ok. This course is grueling, and a testament to what disc golf could be. This isnt a birdie fest for the pros, and honestlt is exhilarating to watch because nobody is safe.
Jeremy had an interesting insight on the second video. He said the lines aren't really obvious on video whereas in person it makes more sense. I'm not sure I buy it until I get a chance to see the course, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
The designer of the course was inducted into the DG HOF in 2007. He understands how discs fly and how professionals throw them.
Why so salty Jeb? Please check Fred and my PDGA history. We have nearly 80 Pro wins including some top tier events. We spent 3 years laying out the course and experimented and tweaked ever since.
Great video, great commentary but bad course. It seems to make it into a parody of disc golf sadly where good shots are punished and random skips are rewarded. Thankful for a great production but looking forward to better courses in future tournaments...

The lines are there, and quite obvious. It just requires an incredible amount of accuracy. Missing your release by even a couple of inches can punish you severely. As for the luck aspect, every course will always have that to an extent, especially when trees are involved. And at Idlewild, the "rough" is so densely wooded that sometimes you can get sent back into the fairway(but also into jail). You also have to figure in that they are competing. They are playing for sub-par scores on each hole which further increases the technical proficiency needed while simultaneously stretching the limits of the given lines.
Ok I will look at more coverage as it comes and see if it looks more fair from a player perspective :)
