- Loose powder has been given a pretty bad press over the years - it's ageing, or it makes your makeup look caked - and lots of companies are now discontinuing it. This is a pity, says Sali Hughes, as it is a great makeup-bag staple, giving your base an even, soft-focus finish

I adore powder and the process and ritual of applying it is a large part of the pleasure!!!
Exactly, quality and skill in application is key. Thank you for this!
Thank you for this. I have Acanthosis Nigricans around my neck, which is dark, velvety skin, I use a luminous loose powder and a kabuki brush on my face and around my neck. Flawless!!
Thank you so much for this video. I just bought a loose powder and realized that I had no idea how to use it. Its translucent though, I have a hard time matching my skintone. I even have to mix foundation.
would have loved to know what colors you was using
Thanks, that was really great info :)
I LOVE loose powder! It gives a fine veil and doesn't cake skin the way pressed powder does on me - pressed powder makes me look awful. I find it incredibly hard to find a decently-priced and -sized pale, non-shimmer loose powder that doesn't go orange!
Many years ago Collection 2000 did a (UV protection) Light Translucent loose powder that was 40g and a bargainous £1.99. Then they reformulated their powders and brought out shades that made me orange :(
NYC Smooth Skin Translucent Loose Powder 20g is also excellent (and was often 3 for 2 at Superdrug at £2.99 each). To my dismay Superdrug seem to have discontinued this line. There's even a CZcams video comparing NYC to Laura Mercier and NYC comes out the winner.
I unearthed the legendary (in the US at least) Coty Airspun Translucent which is 65g a pot (gasp!) and a UK retailer was selling them for under £5. The fragrance is absolutely awful but it's wonderful powder. There's a unfragranced version from the US, though. Buying from Amazon US is prohibitive once all the delivery and customs charges go on top.
Wondering what else is out there.....
Is Clinique Blended Face Powder the replacement for the Clinique powder she is talking about ?
when i got made over by clinique the lady said loose powder is better, as pressed powder gets stuck in your pores, i am currently looking at loose powder so thank you for the tips!
Hi Sali, what shade do yo use? light or subtle?
thanks for the vid. there are no loose powder videos
You prefer to use loose (foundation) powder over your eyeshadow? I feel like primer would reach through the eyeshadow and grab on to the pigmented powder, dulling the overall appearance (though unifying it/blending with one color?)
Can you powder bottoms with it?
What about RCMA, It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores, Laura Mercier setting powder? Aren't those loose powders? It doesn't seem that rare to find them. Am I mistaken ?
Thank you. Finally i know how to use loose powder
It is hard to find loose powders :(
I agree with @NataliaPrice, I turn pressed powder into loose!
Clinique keep stopping stuff, they stopped the Back & Chest Acne spray which was brilliant, dont understand that
Hi!!! what is better loose or press powder? or are the same and only change is the form? thanks
+Kamila Wright To me, loose powder is almost like airbrushing the complexion. It's very light and a soft focus veil on the skin. Pressed powder can be cakey - it shows up scars, bad textured skin, so your skin has to be in better condition for pressed powder, as it tends to be heavier coverage.
hi, can you apply moisturiser with a make up brush?
yes, but hands are better for massaging the moisturizer in your skin. the warmth of your hands also help
Have you ever gone on Etsy? There are lots of small businesses that make loose powder that is quite lovely.
I buy pressed powders and then turn it into a loose powder .
I DON'T THINK THIS IS IMPORTANT JOURNALISM. WHY NO COMMENTS ON YOUR EARLIER VIDEO?
