    One small correction/update regarding the EG linear and exponential selection boxes that disappear once any envelope point changes are made. I found out you can simply press on an empty place on the envelope area (away from any point) and the selections return. Thanks to Kodamo for info.

    Thank you TJ for making this video, there are not many for this complex, extremely capable, FM dream machine.

    Very nice review! I agree midi sync for the delay is essential.

    • @tjontheroad
      @tjontheroad  Před 3 lety

      Sync yes. And, actual depiction of delay times in milliseconds is needed. As of now, there's no way of knowing even what the range of delay times are without taking measurements. Same goes for LFO speed.

      @@tjontheroad can I ask you a question? Some comparison between this amazing machine and iridium desktop? From what I hear from the videos the presets are much more beautiful on iridium however it seems to me that kodamo can beat iridium as simplicity of programming, possibility of layers and complexity of the sound. So...a question: if you had budget for only one of the two synths and I was a musician composer trying to create a "his" sound......What would you buy? Thank you so much for your help! 🙏🙏🙏

    • @tjontheroad
      @tjontheroad  Před rokem +1

      @@flaviorubatto You can always ask :) First off, I wouldn't judge any synth based on the factory presets. I typically try them no more than once or twice and then get on with making my own. Iridium is much more complex synth than EssenceFM and the presets wider ranging. EssenceFM presets are more or less just starting points for greater experimentation. On their own they don't really take advantage of all the layering possibilities. Both synths have touch screens and are easy to use. If you're mostly interested in FM synthesis, EssenceFM is clearly the best UI ever conceived for FM. FM synthesis on Iridium is probably the least user friendly part of the UI.
      Creating "your sound" is a very personal thing obviously. I know I use my synths much differently than I see others do today. Best way I can answer your question is to say that Iridium is a never ending rabbit hole of sound design. I can spend all day experimenting and developing a single patch. EssenceFM is more focused and yet still requires the user to experiment with layering to get the most out of it. If you're only looking for a preset machine, I wouldn't buy either one of them. Get a workstation from Roland, Korg, or Yamaha. Of course using other people's presets isn't totally going to create your sound ;)
      Good luck in your search, TJ

      @@tjontheroad thank you very much! Clear and power! 🤟 also for me the machine presets are starting point, absolutely...As you said, using many presets means going in the opposite direction to create your own sound! In the same "concept" - more similar to the iridium i think - there is hydrasynth....but with the price of 1 hydra + 1 kodomo i buy only 1 iridium...so...as a songwriter/soundtracker unfortunately I have to make a choice based on budget to have the most versatile synths combination possible. with kodamo I can still invest money, while iridium would run out of budget! here the arduous choice. 🤣🤯🤯🤯

      If you're interested in Hydrasynth, get the deluxe. It covers lots of sonic territory and has a large community of users to draw from. Deep synth with a very good UI. If you still want want EssenceFM, mine is on sale for cheap on Reverb.com.

      I understand as I own lots of gear made by small operators. The synth gear market itself is very small. It's the nature of things. I figure, buy and use as much as possible. Time is too short to worry about it.

      @@tjontheroad Two would keep you very busy indeed but it would take the rest of your life to get anything musical out of it. This sets new heights /depths, depending on your point of view. for the unfathomable science that is fm synthesis
      It is like 3 dx7,s layered on top of each other,
      A total nightmare of unprecedented proportions.
      I wouldn't accept this thing as a free gift.
      Doing a ''review'' in this case consists of reading the screen and making up a story , adding ''cool'' ''very'cool'' lots of ''awesome, '' very awesome'' ''very cool'' '' extremely cool '' ''very ''handy'' ''cool but not awesome''
      ''awesome but not very cool'' ''50 percent awesome and 50 percent cool'' this, repeated ad nauseum is all you get as a description of the features, and is a demonstration of this gentleman's grasp of the english language.
      And I almost forgot, ''this bit could be ''such and such'' instead of something else so ''that's cool''
      Unbelieveable drivel.

All I could find there was "This channel doesn't have any content". Nothing, zero, zilch, nada a one video that could offer in-depth focus on interesting topics that are presented in interesting and unique ways. How could this be? There must be some mistake. Surely you have more to offer that negative comments towards my free service to you and the synth community at large. Sigh... I guess not.
