The 49ers won 4 with Montana and one with Steve Young. It's was that forced fumble by the Giants that prevented the 49ers from a three peat with Montana. Young has three rings but two were as a back up.

I will never forget that night. It was one of the ugliest football injuries recorded in prime time live TV. LT knew as soon as they went down how bad Theisman was injured.

LT was a terror I can still watch his highlights today and I’m still amazed even though I’ve seen them a million times. The whole edge term still troubles me though…I mean I’m todays game De’s are still De’s and OLB’s are OLB’s…this whole thing started with these tweeter types coming out of college not sure if they would project as a 3-4 linebacker or a 4-3 end. LT was in my opinion the greatest…he was just a force of destruction. Rules were changed because of him, QB’s called time out because they couldn’t find him on the field, opponents spent the week trying to figure out how to just slow him down. The thing that made him so great was his motor…yeah he was jacked up almost every game, but he never quit on a play. He would run to wherever the ball was, even down field.
I was in high school during this time. And I used to watch Lawrence Taylor all the time because I was a cornerback. I think the most impressive thing with Lawrence Taylor was he was absolutely relentless there was no off switch he played every single down at that same level. Great video, LT was unbelievable, he had one of the worst hits that ended a guys career QB Joe Theisman. He snapped his leg in half, as soon as he hit him LT jumped up motioning for the medic, it was nasty. Huge Giant fan but there were two running backs that stood above everyone else, Walter Payton and to me Eric Dickerson who for some reason was the best to watch, he just had this gate, he was so smooth, he ran upright, he's the GOAT to me. I highly recommend those two. Great video, LT! ...Oh the bull Earl Campbell, another great RB, maybe the most physical. Barry Sanders was great also
I remember Theisman’s injury (Skins fan). From the live tv angle, you couldn’t see what happened, but I remember the panicked look on LTs face, and his frantic gestures to the skins bench. It scared the hell outta me to see that, and when we saw the OTHER angle……whew, its the worst sports injury I had ever seen.
49ers won 4 SB's with Montana. Got the 5th ring with Steve Young. But yes, that 90 Giants team was strong beating the 2time defending SB Champ 49ers to get to the SB. Buffalo was a really good team as well.

There never was nor will there ever be another Lawrence Taylor (ROLB) 6'3" 243lbs. He won two Super Bowls 1986 (Broncos) and 1991 (Bills). 1981 Defensive Pkayer of the Year. 1986 LEAGUE MVP. The single man who came close to LT was a dude called Derrick Thomas who used to play for the Kansas City Chiefs. Lawrence Taylor was the epitome of defensive football. Nobody could change the game and win it from defense like he could. There's a few games and you have highlighted in a few plays here where he literally won the game single-handedly.
DT was close as a pass rusher. He wasnt nearly as good in coverage or run stopping. He was young so who knows if hed got better. Still take DT over alot of pass rushers though.

LT did everything at a high level while being impactful when it mattered most. DT was arguably a equal in pass rush but a massive liability in the run game. You hear guys from the era talk about that when discussing playing the chiefs of the time. He also wasnt able to lift the team to the playoffs and beyond like LT. Whether fair or not the fact LT has the mvp and super bowls to match while being the focal point of the team matters. Thats all i was trying to point out. Its not like DT is some bum. And who was LT’s Defensive Coordinator for most of his career? Bill Belichick. Throw in three other outstanding linebackers (Harry Carson, then Pepper Johnson, Carl Banks and Gary Reasons) and it pretty much didn’t matter who played in the Giants secondary.
If not the greatest linebacker of all time, he was for sure the greatest of his era. He had size, speed, could stop the run, destroy the Q.B., and cover receivers. And he did all the above at a superstar level.

Excellent videos. Having watched almost all of the Giants games he played and his rookie preseason, it's was fun watching your reactions to LT. You can look it up, LT wore number 98 in his first preseason he played. He changed the game. He was definitely larger than most of the others and was close to the size of your typical center or DE. Played at about 240 - 255 @6'3" if I remember. Thing was they had to commit a tackle to him, and he would move from side to middle and exploit fear and holes from NYs 3-4 defense. He was great in getting back on coverage too even when committed. He could dead stop the run and end run as well as buck up the middle. He could do it all.
Anyone old like me remember Tecmo Football on Nintendo???? I remember u could play as the Giants and use LT to block every field goal and every kick off. And Bo Jackson from the Raiders u could run the ball in one play to the end zone most of the time. Then of course Ronnie Lott as 49ers safety was like a lineman but quick. LT was an outside Linebacker and not a D lineman or Edge Rusher. He weighed around 245, was faster than most RB’s, was absolutely fearless and could deal with pain that would cripple a horse. Jim Brown is often considered the greatest RB in NFL History and most consider LT the best defensive player ever. Few athletes in the history of the NFL have impacted the game like LT did. My favorite LT moment was when he lit up Bo Jackson on a sideline tackle no one else could have made on Bo. He then offered Bo a hand, helped him back up, smiled and told Bo “Welcome to the NFL Buddy!”.

Going from being undrafted and cut from a few teams to the most dominant DT ever and being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He finished his career with 137.5 Sacks in 14 seasons.
He’s the first player I thought of when they were talking about how it was insane for an interior lineman to get 5 sacks let alone 20 with Donald. Randle had like 8 consecutive seasons over 10 sacks…not to mention there have been hundreds of other interior lineman getting more than 5 sacks a season lol

I’m a 40 year old man and I’ve watched football my entire life. I have never seen a defensive player at any position that could completely change the entire feel of a football game like LT. To say he was a beast is not giving him the respect he deserves. There have been many absolutely great defensive players over the years, but only one LT.
LT comes from Lafayette HS in Williamsburg, Va. The same school that produced Ron Springs and Mel Gray. Ron played for Dallas and Mel played for Detroit.

I got to watch “the minister of defense” Regg White down here in Neyland Stadium as a little kid. He was SO GOOD! How someone that big could move like that blew my mind. But Taylor in the pros had to be terrifying to those QBs. Came in with the hammer fist. He had to have broke a few collarbones and shoulders….had to!
Plus you had the ‘85 Bears in the middle of all this with the Bills, Niners, and Giants. You also had the Redskins coached by Joe Gibbs who won three Superbowls with three different quarterbacks during this time.

one of my very first memories of of watching football was of Taylor. it was the Giants vs Redskins on a monday night i believe. He got his hands on Theisman for a sack. he kinda awkwardly slide down the side of theismans body and wwhen he came to the leg area Joes leg snapped. man it was gruesome in the perfect shape of an L. if i remember right theisman retired because of that broken leg.
People need to realize that LT was way ahead of his time. The guy was 6'4" 250 lbs and ran a 4.5/ 40 yard sprint. The combination of size, speed, and strength was unmatched back then. He was so fast that lineman could never really block him and he could run down running backs from behind. Teams would have to change their offensive schemes to prepare for him. He was a massive addition on that defense which was already excellent at the time. You would be hard pressed to find another player that made such an impact during their time in the league. One of the best defensive players to ever play the game.

One thing to consider is that today’s NFL is far more pass heavy, and fewer players staying in to block, than in the 80s and 90s. The best teams back then ran the ball first (until St. Louis Rams -REACTION TO MARSHALL FAULK👍 - ‘greatest show on turf,’ opened up the pass game). But running, play action, and tight formations with a lot of guys blocking, ruled the 80s and 90s. All passing statistics, offensive and defensive (ie, sacks) will be higher now.
LT CHANGED THE GAME. Left tackle became a premium position because of him. Bigger, faster O lineman were needed because of him. Edge rushers speed was now compared to him. He is the mold that today's defense is based on. We are used to seeing people do this now but LT was the first.

His sacks were done in an era whereby teams rushed way more than passed the ball, so there were way fewer opportunities to sack the QB. There was a story where supposedly LT switched positions with another linebacker from another team, the new Orleans saints, temporarily. So while LT played linebacker on the down low, the other linebacker, Rickie Jackson played linebacker for the Giants on the dl.
Young man on the left said "the OL looked smaller" back then. As a whole, they were. Taylor is a big reason why OL started getting even bigger and longer. LT and a dude named Derrick Thomas were big reasons why length started becoming more of sn emphasis for tackles. LT had/has the best speed to power of any edge rusher ever. Derrick Thomas(who played for the Chiefs) was more twitchy, could bend the edge and climb the arc better than anyone who has done it. But he wasn't as powerful as LT. Bama's current Edge, Will Anderson, reminds me of LT a lot. Very similar size/frames and skill sets.
Lawrence Taylor was the Grim Reaper taking peoples souls against the Philadelphia Eagles. I don't recall any player who produce such a sense of dred when he stepped onto the field.

LT was a terror I can still watch his highlights today and I’m still amazed even though I’ve seen them a million times. The whole edge term still troubles me though…I mean I’m todays game De’s are still De’s and OLB’s are OLB’s…this whole thing started with these tweeter types coming out of college not sure if they would project as a 3-4 linebacker or a 4-3 end. If he okayed today they would call LT an edge player but I’ll never think of him anyway but a linebacker.

LT was in my opinion the greatest…he was just a force of destruction. Rules were changed because of him, QB’s called time out because they couldn’t find him on the field, opponents spent the week trying to figure out how to just slow him down. The thing that made him so great was his motor…yeah he was jacked up almost every game, but he never quit on a play. He would run to wherever the ball was, even down field.
I was in high school during this time. And I used to watch Lawrence Taylor all the time because I was a cornerback. I think the most impressive thing with Lawrence Taylor was he was absolutely relentless there was no off switch he played every single down at that same level. I know lots of people like to think that players play like that but very few do. He absolutely played full on 100% every single down. Thank you you guys are fun to watch I subscribed 👍

Great video, LT was unbelievable, he had one of the worst hits that ended a guys career QB Joe Theisman. He snapped his leg in half, as soon as he hit him LT jumped up motioning for the medic, it was nasty. Huge Giant fan but there were two running backs that stood above everyone else, Walter Payton and to me Eric Dickerson who for some reason was the best to watch, he just had this gate, he was so smooth, he ran upright, he's the GOAT to me. I highly recommend those two. Great video, LT! ...Oh the bull Earl Campbell, another great RB, maybe the most physical. Barry Sanders was great also
I remember Theisman’s injury (Skins fan). From the live tv angle, you couldn’t see what happened, but I remember the panicked look on LTs face, and his frantic gestures to the skins bench. It scared the hell outta me to see that, and when we saw the OTHER angle……whew, its the worst sports injury I had ever seen.

49ers won 4 SB's with Montana. Got the 5th ring with Steve Young. But yes, that 90 Giants team was strong beating the 2time defending SB Champ 49ers to get to the SB. Buffalo was a really good team as well.

There never was nor will there ever be another Lawrence Taylor (ROLB) 6'3" 243lbs.
He won two Super Bowls 1986 (Broncos) and 1991 (Bills). 1981 Defensive Pkayer of the Year. 1986 LEAGUE MVP. The single man who came close to LT was a dude called Derrick Thomas who used to play for the Kansas City Chiefs. Lawrence Taylor was the epitome of defensive football. Nobody could change the game and win it from defense like he could. There's a few games and you have highlighted in a few plays here where he literally won the game single-handedly.
DT was close as a pass rusher. He wasnt nearly as good in coverage or run stopping. He was young so who knows if hed got better. Still take DT over alot of pass rushers though.
@@Gardenstategreat1225DT had a decent career around 10 years. Can I suggest you go back and watch some of his highlight reels again he did more than just pass rush. Yes that was his specialty but he did a little bit more he was an asset to the Kansas City Chiefs.

LT did everything at a high level while being impactful when it mattered most. DT was arguably a equal in pass rush but a massive liability in the run game. You hear guys from the era talk about that when discussing playing the chiefs of the time. He also wasnt able to lift the team to the playoffs and beyond like LT. Whether fair or not the fact LT has the mvp and super bowls to match while being the focal point of the team matters. Thats all i was trying to point out. Its not like DT is some bum. The man is a legend. Looking back at it, it seems you were strictly speaking about a pass rusher effecting the game not total ability so maybe the comparisons i made arent needed. And who was LT’s Defensive Coordinator for most of his career? Bill Belichick. Throw in three other outstanding linebackers (Harry Carson, then Pepper Johnson, Carl Banks and Gary Reasons) and it pretty much didn’t matter who played in the Giants secondary.
If not the greatest linebacker of all time, he was for sure the greatest of his era. He had size, speed, could stop the run, destroy the Q.B., and cover receivers. And he did all the above at a superstar level.

Having watched almost all of the Giants games he played and his rookie preseason, it's was fun watching your reactions to LT.
You can look it up, LT wore number 98 in his first preseason he played.
He changed the game.
He was definitely larger than most of the others and was close to the size of your typical center or DE. Played at about 240 - 255 @6'3" if I remember.
Thing was they had to commit a tackle to him, and he would move from side to middle and exploit fear and holes from NYs 3-4 defense. He was great in getting back on coverage too even when committed.
He could dead stop the run and end run as well as buck up the middle.
He could do it all.
When a quarterback comes to the line of scrimmage he checks the defense. When Taylor was on the field the quarterback check where he was.
The average linemen during that era were 40 lbs heavier than Taylor

And Bo Jackson from the Raiders u could run the ball in one play to the end zone most of the time. Then of course Ronnie Lott as 49ers safety was like a lineman but quick. LT was an outside Linebacker and not a D lineman or Edge Rusher. He weighed around 245, was faster than most RB’s, was absolutely fearless and could deal with pain that would cripple a horse.
Jim Brown is often considered the greatest RB in NFL History and most consider LT the best defensive player ever. Few athletes in the history of the NFL have impacted the game like LT did.
My favorite LT moment was when he lit up Bo Jackson on a sideline tackle no one else could have made on Bo. He then offered Bo a hand, helped him back up, smiled and told Bo “Welcome to the NFL Buddy!”.

Going from being undrafted and cut from a few teams to the most dominant DT ever and being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He finished his career with 137.5 Sacks in 14 seasons.

I’m a 40 year old man and I’ve watched football my entire life. I have never seen a defensive player at any position that could completely change the entire feel of a football game like LT. To say he was a beast is not giving him the respect he deserves. There have been many absolutely great defensive players over the years, but only one LT.

Lawrence EFFING Taylor, was only the 2nd player ever to win league MVP. I saw every game he played. and even had a few cocktails in the same room postgame. He was and is in the top three players whoever played the game and myself, Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick agree and we all think he may very well be THE greatest. Aaron Donald ? Pffft. Let's see him dominate for 10 years. Been a Giant Fan since '56.
And Roger Craig soiled himself whenever they played the Giants . In '86, the Giants knocked out 8 starting QB's including 2 on the Cowboys.

I got to watch “the minister of defense” Regg White down here in Neyland Stadium as a little kid. He was SO GOOD! How someone that big could move like that blew my mind.
But Taylor in the pros had to be terrifying to those QBs. Came in with the hammer fist. He had to have broke a few collarbones and shoulders….had to!
LT & Tom Brady are the 2 best players in NFL History. Period. LT was a freak of nature & would EASILY dominate in today’s NFL.
Plus you had the ‘85 Bears in the middle of all this with the Bills, Niners, and Giants. You also had the Redskins coached by Joe Gibbs who won three Superbowls with three different quarterbacks during this time.

What's even more amazing is that LT wasn't a workout warrior with the weights and didn't take care of himself off the field they way he should have. But the man could break down film (see the Belichick interview) and knew exactly what each man's job was in their defensive scheme. His mental IQ along with his physical (6-3, 240lbs, 4.5 in the 40!) freakishly strong made him so dominant

one of my very first memories of of watching football was of Taylor. it was the Giants vs Redskins on a monday night i believe. He got his hands on Theisman for a sack. he kinda awkwardly slide down the side of theismans body and wwhen he came to the leg area Joes leg snapped. man it was gruesome in the perfect shape of an L. if i remember right theisman retired because of that broken leg.

People need to realize that LT was way ahead of his time. The guy was 6'4" 250 lbs and ran a 4.5/ 40 yard sprint. The combination of size, speed, and strength was unmatched back then. He was so fast that lineman could never really block him and he could run down running backs from behind. Teams would have to change their offensive schemes to prepare for him. He was a massive addition on that defense which was already excellent at the time. You would be hard pressed to find another player that made such an impact during their time in the league. One of the best defensive players to ever play the game.

One thing to consider is that today’s NFL is far more pass heavy, and fewer players staying in to block, than in the 80s and 90s. The best teams back then ran the ball first (until St. Louis Rams -REACTION TO MARSHALL FAULK👍 - ‘greatest show on turf,’ opened up the pass game). But running, play action, and tight formations with a lot of guys blocking, ruled the 80s and 90s.
All passing statistics, offensive and defensive (ie, sacks) will be higher now.
LT CHANGED THE GAME. Left tackle became a premium position because of him. Bigger, faster O lineman were needed because of him. Edge rushers speed was now compared to him. He is the mold that today's defense is based on. We are used to seeing people do this now but LT was the first.

His sacks were done in an era whereby teams rushed way more than passed the ball, so there were way fewer opportunities to sack the QB. He was significant not just for his numbers, but for disruption of teams' entire offensive schemes, and all the changes teams were forced to try to contain him (usually with little success).

That was brutal!!! We were glued to the TV!!! Joe Theisman was toast! That was the 2nd worse hit I ever saw. The worst was the kid, can't remember his name or team, (sorry, too much recreational fun), who was paralyzed from a hit.
There was a story where supposedly LT switched positions with another linebacker from another team, the new Orleans saints, temporarily. So while LT played linebacker on the down low, the other linebacker, Rickie Jackson played linebacker for the Giants on the dl.
One of the best line backers in 80's nfl when there was actually defense played in the game. Pre concussion rules.
Young man on the left said "the OL looked smaller" back then. As a whole, they were. Taylor is a big reason why OL started getting even bigger and longer.
LT and a dude named Derrick Thomas were big reasons why length started becoming more of sn emphasis for tackles. LT had/has the best speed to power of any edge rusher ever. Derrick Thomas(who played for the Chiefs) was more twitchy, could bend the edge and climb the arc better than anyone who has done it. But he wasn't as powerful as LT.
Bama's current Edge, Will Anderson, reminds me of LT a lot. Very similar size/frames and skill sets.
Lawrence Taylor was the Grim Reaper taking peoples souls against the Philadelphia Eagles. I don't recall any player who produce such a sense of dred when he stepped onto the field.
