  • Grizzly Jim tales a look at the new Stalker, a 54" takedown recurve from Timber Creek. The bow package includes Bow, Timber Creek bag roll, string, stringer, string silencers, rug rest and strike plat as well a plastic arrow rest. RRP for this package is £150
    Though short the bow is very smooth all the way up to about 29.5 " (then it hits a bit of a wall due it its size) so not suitable for archers with long draw lengths.
    Please look out for this bow on the Merlin website very soon.

    After watching this over xmas I knew I wanted to start archery and fell in love with this bow. It's now new year and I own one. I cannot stress enough how good the service from Merlin was even though I ordered between the two holidays. I love the bow and am hooked on archery, also thanks to Jim's other videos have started to try to shoot instinctively, which has ended up being quite an amazing experience :)

    It looks like Junxing F177. A lot of company nowadays actually buy bows from junxing (it's a chinese manufacturer) and rebrand as their own.

    I have been waiting for a decent and nicely finished budget recurve ( in other words one not covered in branding) Pretty sure I will get one shortly. Good presentation by the way. :)

    My husband got me the Galaxy Scorch (Lancaster Archery) branded version of this for Christmas and the fiberglass chipped away and left splinters at the string grooves after less that 100 arrows. I returned it for a refund. Not a bad bow but I do think the QC is hit or miss, just letting everyone know.

    hiya Jim. sorry about the earlier comment about using your beaver balls to clean them cobwebs off your windowsill. I received my TC stalker bow package yesterday it had a different Stringer. the one I got with it was a real struggle trying to string my bow. I got the 45 draw weight. I haven't shot a bow in 3 years can't believe how weak I've got. I should have got 35lbs oh well my own fault . I do love the bow I can't believe how Merlin archery can sell them so cheaply. I'm going to buy another one. lower draw weight . 10 out of 10 . Merlin archery. grizzly Jim keep them vid's coming

    Sorry, but I like these kinds of short bows, and I ain't a tiny guy. I think people overlook a lot of fun bows by thinking that, just because they have say a 30" draw, means they have to use longer bows. I have some high-quality "youth" recurves (Bear Kodiak Jr and Samick Shadow) that are only 48" long (35 pounders), and they are a gas to shoot. Almost weightless, but with significant power. If they are shot appropriately (i.e., not over-drawn), they shoot great and are very consistently accurate. Draw the bow until it stacks a little bit, and then release. No need at all to reach your "normal" anchor. It's very good to learn to be able to shoot this way, IMHO. In fact, I would go so far as to say that these "short" bows are best appreciated by an experienced archer.

    okay:) Thx, I think I have fun with this bow. And I want to shoot it from the shelf, that would be the first time I shoot from the shelf. But I think it is more traditional, than an arrow rest.

      Short recurve bows work great for home defence.
      I've used a Bear grizzly recurve twice in the last 40 years to defend my home living in a large city. Didn't need an AR 15.

    Oh, this looks preeetty sweet!
    What would you (or anyone else) recommend as the first bow's draw weight for a beginner who is a spindly guy? Who can also shoot the local club's bows with 22 (or 25, I think?) pounds twice a week? I'm thinking about going for 30, would that be a mistake?

    • @maximilianendes1291
      @maximilianendes1291 Před 8 lety

      I think, it's good to start with a 20 or 22 pound bow. It's best for your shooting-technique, and for your body and your back. Any new Archer should start with a low drawweight, because, than it's easier to learn a good shooting-technique, it's impossible how strong you are. And I can recomend to step up your drawweight in 2-pound steps. I did the mistake and change from 20 pounds to 26, that wasn't good for my back, and I had to buy 22 pound limbs after this. Now I shoot 30 pounds, and I have no problems with my back. I hope, I can help you.

      +GeneralGiffel yes men, but i'm a 15 years old Boy and start archery since 3 1/2 years ago. At the moment i also shoot a 40# ragim wildcat for 3d archery. If you're are a man you can start with a heavier bow than 20-or 25#,absolute :), but i had start with 20# when i was 12. What i want to say is, if sb start with archery, who never shoot a bow before shouldn't start with a really heavy draw weight. :)
