There's not a more admirable profession than carpentry. It's a art form of it's own. God chose a carpenter to be Jesus earthly father, there's no better compliment than that.

I literally dated a handsome multi-millionaire and a handsome, penniless carpenter at the same time when I was shiny & new…..I chose the carpenter!! Something about a man who has endless possibilities because he can create something lasting out of nothing!! 42 years later, I’m very thankful I did!! Our house is small BUT every inch of it we built together bit by bit, therefore by proxy, I’ve been a carpenter’s helper every step of the way and as a result, I know my way around tools, masonry, plumbing, electrical, you name it! I’m no licensed expert of course but I can spot something off level, out of plumb, not square, etc., in two shakes of a dog’s tail and I can safely say, not only is the task you’re doing astronomical but it’s also some really good sound work!!…..and I do NOT compliment easily; I’m very critical and I expect joinery to be done to the nth degree, RIGHT (meaning properly & solidly). I’m particularly impressed with your masonry skills, your fortitude and your ingenuity; which makes me laugh sometimes! Well done, Dan, WELL DONE …. naysayers stand down!!
Also congratulations to your friends who have generously given so much of their time, effort and skills to this project! It’s a pleasure seeing so many of them there to support you…..THAT in itself is more beautiful than the house, in my opinion!!

To a carpenter, there is beauty in a house frame. My dad taught me to frame walls left to right, front to back, so that as you looked at the frame, all the studs, joists, and rafters lined up perfectly. The symmetry of a hipped roof is the crown of the frame. For a novice whose first hip roof is over framed a bit, the second one is perfect. WOW, is Dans feeling.....I can't believe we have done this. Congrats, Dan and friend.

Looking forward to them making this thing weather tight. Yes, they're a long way away, but roofing the thing will be big step forward. Rebuilding every window, door, vent, etc - that will be a heavy lift, but so, so worth it.
