This has to be the most underrated channel on CZcams. For whatever reason the algorithm decided to guide me towards it the other week and I've been laughing my arse off with every video. Absolute gold!
Thank you. This is such a wonderful video. I've been laughing and smiling like a wally for half hour. As a side story. Bobby Ball owned a nightclub in Rochdale called Braces. My dad's side of the family owned a taxi firm and used to do the taxis for the club. Bobby also used to call them to bring him chippy at home. I think this means Bobby Ball invented Uber Eats.
Jimmy saville appearing on Frank Brunos this is your life and Frank asking Jimmy if he remembered taking him up to broadmoor to meet Peter Sutcliffe, chuckling away Ho Ho Ho, Savile says " it never happened" audience are in fits of laughter, Aspels has an awkward look on his face and points to Savile to sit down
My 2 great aunts were close neighbours of Larry Grayson and they said that his TV persona was no different to his off-stage one and he was a genuinely lovely and emotional person, quite a contrast to all the jackals in the comedy and TV circuit in the 70s onwards.
Seems to have been taken off youtube now (but can still be found on google), but the clip from Gary Glitter's This Is Your Life where Tessa Dahl recounts how her and her school friends, dressed in school uniform, would congregate at Dahl's house where Glitter was living at the time to "gaze at Glitter" as Glitter shushes her and winks to the audience, is only the second most shocking thing in the clip, after Glitter's massive bouffant and ponytail.
Bernard Manning was such a close friend and staunch Lancastrian that he had no idea Liz Dawn was from bloody Yorkshire...the atmosphere of sincerity is palpable.
Another great video, Stu! Something weirdly moving about Frank Bruno desperately trying to quiet whatever depravity he knew was about to come out of Freddie's mouth. He always seemed like such a genuine guy. I have a firmly embedded memory of him dropping out of Spiceworld because the Girls refused to meet his kids on set, so he was replaced by Meatloaf. And yet I remember nothing of two years studying the English Civil War. Don't know if it's worse to have laughed so hard at the Wearside Jack reference or that I recognised it so quickly.
Great to see this vintage footage of This is Your Life. They really got a wide range of people. I wish this show could be back on today. It sometimes meant that you would be watching a show that would be when they surprised the celebrity to do this.
This really brings back some memories. I'd forgotten all about this half hour of backslapping nonsense but it's great to hear that iconic theme again and the background fanfare as the guests appeared.
Freddie Starr, much like Tommy Cannon and Ted Rogers are that old style of comedians who are like Tommy from Goodfellas, where you get the feeling at any point they might just stop the gags and start absolutely leathering you….
Gosh I was watching this at work with headphones on and had to stop watching on account that I nearly pissed myself... Thank you! I will be watching again later this evening, perfect commentary as always.
Loved this immensely, but really surprised that you left out Gary Glitter and the infamous Tessa Dhal incident. The one where he had to sit there and squirm trying to surreptitiously shush her, as she stood there hands on hips luxuriating in his discomfort, clearly knowing something we all didn't.
Hilarious video and a great trip down memory lane. It's always surprising just how mental the past seems with hindsight. Quality stuff coming from your channel here 👍
You're so right about TV shows with themes that 'sing' the title of the show. Another was creaky old gameshow 'Call My Bluff' which, as teenagers we renamed 'Smell My Muff'.
Amazed to find out that Paul Ross was best man at Danny Bakers wedding. Great little bit of trivia for me to mention during my next teams call at work.
Imagine alternate pairings - a hilarious Large & Ball and a deathly unfunny Little & Cannon. Or LargeBall/LittleCannon which doesn’t sound quite right…..
I enjoyed your video far more than I enjoyed TIYL back in the day (but hey with 4 channels, what else was I going to watch) I nearly always found TIYL boring as I was a kid/teen so most of the celebrities were from before my time. I also disliked the contrived nature of wheeling out other celebrities that they obviously hardly knew having once filmed an advert together (whilst rushing through non celebrities who were close friends or relatives) It's much like the famous actors who get an MBE for services to theatre (despite being well paid to perform) when lesser known actors work just as hard and struggle to make a living and will never get an MBE.
27:24 I want to know so badly what the Black & Decker story was. He faced Mike Tyson but it’s Freddie with a wild anecdote that frightens the wits out of him.
Another wonderful Milland production. 😂. I just imagine you behind the mic each time. Hahaha. I'm isolation singing and putting on these superb quips. Amazing stuff as always sir 😊
I was at the taping of the final episodes of Harry Hill's Channel 4 show; Aspel came out at the end to surprise him with 'This is Your Life'. That episode was awkward; Harry had a long running gag about Jennie Bond and they brought her out as one of the guests! 🤔
I always felt a tiny bit unnerved by watching this show, in that you half expected there to be some kind of awkward unpleasantness occur between the guest and someone they've not had anything to do with for many, many years, (for an unknown but good reason), suddenly spring back to life whilst they tell-tale on them.
I did have a moment when I thought Nelson Mandela had escaped from prison to appear on Manning's episode but then you said it was Charlie Williams and Manning got a bit racist as usual. Also, the old dear poking her head over the 'tunnel' to ensure that it is really Jim Bowen coming in at 6:17 has made me laugh a bit.
Stuart, I can only imagine the solitary hours of dark and painful research these videos must take to put together. You are like Victor Lewis-Smith on SMACK!😅
I only discovered this channel yesterday, and now another vid. More Bernard please,.loved him popping up in the Beauty Contest video, and Cyril Smith...blimey. Thank You,. Keep Up The Great Work 👍
The nuclear war film Threads had an opening of a spider's web as a metaphor of how everything in society is inter-linked and bound together. Seeing some of these disgraced celebrities being celebrated may make you wish for nuclear war.
Only Dennis Waterman can match you for singing theme tunes! However you forgot the bit after the This Is Your Life theme tune. You sing "This is your Life" then there are specifically two notes after " Life" to fill in. I think "Aw Shit" works or whatever expletive you fancy - sing it and you will see what I mean! I've subbed as this is the third video of yours that's made me laugh. Hope you carry on - very funny 👏😊✌
This Is Your Life was somewhat vicarious viewing back in the day…celebrities kept a tight hold on privacy & to find out ANYTHING about Orson Welles or Big Daddy was, err, big news 😂 Towards the start of the 90s though, the format was wearing out it’s welcome You either had worthy but long-forgotten stars like Howard Keel, or, inexplicably, Maureen Rees from Driving School! That’s not even scraping the top of the bottom of the barrel 😮 I recall one very sad episode featuring Spike Milligan. The genius Goon was looking frail and tired, and with so many of his contemporaries either passed on, or no longer on speaking terms, it was quite awkward to watch Saddest of all was a visit from John Paul Getty, clutching a framed pound note featuring Spike’s autograph I don’t know if Mr Getty was joking or not, but the continued asking if the pound note was legal tender was extremely awkward

Lol, Brillant comment!

I barely remember him from The Generation Game, but he seems a genuinely lovely person.
It's the Millardmeister! The Stumeister! The WellBadKnobRotMeister!
"Hair made from dark matter"! 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 I always belly laugh at your videos.... brilliant 👍
Hahahaha dropping in the tape recording of the hoax Yorkshire Ripper was hilarious. Love your work.
yes great work - Wearside jack? 😅
No mistaking that voice….they caught him not too long ago and he was given a few years in prison
Well done Stuart Millard👍👍 another great video. You are what Charlie Brooker could've been.
so true
Imagine these videos on late-night channel 4 in the mid 00s. Perfect!
Bernard Manning was such a close friend and staunch Lancastrian that he had no idea Liz Dawn was from bloody Yorkshire...the atmosphere of sincerity is palpable.
"dressed like the Wac-a-Day Morpheus" - genius😂
11:40 did you see him visibly relax when he realised that his “secret world” referred to being a hospital porter
"And Jimmy got one from his future roommate downstairs"
" ...Thank you - Margaret Thatcher"
Its the Wearside Jack Meister
Not going to lie, that was comedy gold and made me quite humble.
I’ll never forget the Jimmy Saville This is your life episode
Another great video, Stu! Something weirdly moving about Frank Bruno desperately trying to quiet whatever depravity he knew was about to come out of Freddie's mouth. I love the episode with Big Daddy he looks so confused the whole time. Not once does he look to truely understand what's happening
I love the thumbnail image for this video! (all those heads in the spider's web, very macabre)
Jimmy Savile appeared twice on This Is Your Life! If only they revealed all...
He missed gary glitter
This really brings back some memories. I'd forgotten all about this half hour of backslapping nonsense but it's great to hear that iconic theme again and the background fanfare as the guests appeared.
Emu’s suplex to cheggers through the desk was pleasing
haha emu's strength always amazed me
Once again Larry just delivers a great one liner. Love Larry.
I like how legit panicky Bruno gets about the black and decker joke :D
Rod Hull and Emu. What a pair of UK icons
I've been informed that it was Emu who pushed Rod off the roof "that's the last time you put your hand up my arse, take that you barrrstard"
I actually sold Kevin Lloyd two large bottles of Bells at Sainsburys in Swansea in 1996, that's my memory of him
Freddie Starr, much like Tommy Cannon and Ted Rogers are that old style of comedians who are like Tommy from Goodfellas, where you get the feeling at any point they might just stop the gags and start absolutely leathering you….
Savile’s was This Is Part Of Your Life. No wonder he was sweating like a _____ in a 70’s TV studio…….
Really entertaining, thanks - big laugh at "Wacaday Morpheus" and hair made from dark matter!
Gosh I was watching this at work with headphones on and had to stop watching on account that I nearly pissed myself... Thank you! I will be watching again later this evening, perfect commentary as always.
Such a great little comedy documentary! Love that insertion of Wearside Jack, made me burst out laughing!

7:07 What a crap time for the mushrooms to kick in, Jim!
Kudos to the man who gave Saville three broken ribs
You're so right about TV shows with themes that 'sing' the title of the show. Another was creaky old gameshow 'Call My Bluff' which, as teenagers we renamed 'Smell My Muff'.
Larry Grayson what a legend. He was not loved enough.
Larry’s like a shining light in this veritable Who’s That? of 70’s/80’s celebrity culture. A national treasure.
Nice one! Great fun to watch👍
Amazed to find out that Paul Ross was best man at Danny Bakers wedding. Great little bit of trivia for me to mention during my next teams call at work.
I really enjoyed this one! When Cannon & Ball walked out, you must have been clapping like a seal.
Cannon and Ball AND Little and Large, I lost my fool mind!
I was wondering why Little and Large were only on a video call. Them plus Cannon and Ball in the same studio would've been carnage.
Imagine alternate pairings - a hilarious Large & Ball and a deathly unfunny Little & Cannon. Or LargeBall/LittleCannon which doesn’t sound quite right…..
A couple of reminders here that Sarah Greene was an absolute fox!
In the 80s, absolutely!
@@AlexMitchell-sj4sbshe's aged well
The theme music still fills me with a sense of dread.
Fitting music for the Gary Glitter and Jimmy Savile episodes….
When I was a kid I used to sing
This is youuur liiiife (x2)
This is your life for you and meeee
Thiiiiis iiiiiis liiiiiiiiife
Quite profound really
It was a labour of love@@alisonclarke9650

only just discovered your channel but this was the most I've grinned in donkeys... looking forward to going through more of your vids
Love the music in the background.
Thoroughly enjoyed that!
27:24 I want to know so badly what the Black & Decker story was. He faced Mike Tyson but it’s Freddie with a wild anecdote that frightens the wits out of him.

30:06 Ali's poem sounds like a 321 clue.
If there's one thing I've learnt from your video, Millard-Meister (or maybe Mill-Meister), it's how Danny Baker picks nicknames.
I always felt a tiny bit unnerved by watching this show, in that you half expected there to be some kind of awkward unpleasantness occur between the guest and someone they've not had anything to do with for many, many years, (for an unknown but good reason), suddenly spring back to life whilst they tell-tale on them.

The Saville bit was a tough watch, especially after watching the drama about him.
"The Wacaday Morpheus" just finished me 😂
Thanks x
"You mean they get to keep the book?" - 7 year old me.
Never seen this channel this just got recommended tonight but I love this! Great commentary.
Comical stuff , great upload. 👍
That unexpected Jimmy Cricket tape moment is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time! Genius
Can't believe you left Gary glitter out ?
I only discovered this channel yesterday, and now another vid.
More Bernard please,.loved him popping up in the Beauty Contest video, and Cyril Smith...blimey.
Thank You,. Keep Up The Great Work 👍
That's the most animated I've ever seen Jim Bowen tbh.
wackaday Morpheus. I'm fkng dead 🤣🤣🤣
haha love the singing 'this is your life... cnut' 🤣
Mate, you're too bloody funny, binging your vids, love the subtle catches and obscure humour , I'm so down for this
This is quality! Forget sometimes just how bad 70s and 80s TV could be.
Noddy Holder's reaction to Gary Glitter's video clip speaks volumes on his episode !!!
Genuinely lolling at this! Fantastic!
The theme music gave me the creeps as a kid.
😂
Shocked that Eamonn Andrews and Larry Grayson have exactly the same hair.
I actually really like Larry. Bless him.
Rod Hull should have gone into pro wrestling. Some of the bumps he takes are fucking nuts.
Mike and Bernie Winters!
"Oh Christ, there's two of 'em!"
Do you remember those awful Winters we had in the 70's?
Rod Hull was brilliant. He comes on with Emu for Larry Grayson, the first thing he does is grab the red book. Then gets Grayson by the throat 😂
That Black & Decker joke writes itself. Gold
Makes me cringe now how much we all used to look forward to this every week.
Danny Baker gives me some major Mickey Flanagan vibes
The Dannymeister?
The nuclear war film Threads had an opening of a spider's web as a metaphor of how everything in society is inter-linked and bound together. Seeing some of these disgraced celebrities being celebrated may make you wish for nuclear war.
Bernie is a pro. He knows we don't want that nobody. We want Bernie, full frame in our living rooms in glorious colour!

I saw Robert Robinson drop in on one of these once - can't remember who they were doing that week. Expect it wasn't Keith Harris.
Always a joy when a new Millard drops, doubly so when it involves singing the theme tune to shows….
My dad worked on this when eamonn andrews done it. He has many stories of the people that came on the show.
Yorkshire Ripper speech! 😂😂😂 keep it dark!
I can’t believe I used to watch this sh*t. Half an hour every week I could’ve spent doing something productive with my life. ☹️
Hair made from dark matter 😂😂😂😂
Beautifully researched and edited. I love your channel.
I heard you say 1100 episodes and that number sounded high. Looked it up and it's actually more than 1100!
6:15 - Jimmy Cricket? I thought it was Gordon Kaye
'the corpse of Nookie Bear'
'some Wicker Man shit'
Fuck!
that was there life it should be called now
