In danmark we have “sammenskudsgilde” which is a party where everyone bring something food/dessert/snacks/wine/soda/decorations etc. so that the host/hostess doesn’t bear the financial burden alone.
That’s particularly useful for young people/students since they usually don’t have a lot of money, but it’s also just nice to have everyone involved 😊
My friend didn’t have a lot of money so when she married the had a “sammenskudsgilde” and had a picnic in a public park. They asked their guest to bring something to the party instead of a wedding gift, and they had a great day with all their friends and family, which was almost stress free and cost them next to nothing.
Not for everyone I realize, but they loved it 😁
And yes, games were played, including “kongespil” the king game played in this video.

Midsummer is always the 3rd week in June, where Friday is Midsummer Eve. So many companies only have half a working day the day before, i.e. Thursday - So I, who have worked within Kiruna Municipality, everyone stopped working at 12.00 on Thursday.
Then it is more common in southern Sweden to eat fish dishes and other things from the Christmas table that you also have in midsummer. Up in Lapland is the landscape I live in, so we mostly grill meat on Midsummer Eve.

Fathers day in Denmark is 5th of June, other Nordic countries does it on 2nd Sunday of November.
Also our Danish midsummer, tonight, is by burning a witch on a bonfire, it has a more "street-party" approach unlike the almost wedding-like formalities they do with their pole dancing celebration in Sweden.
I make it sound silly, but the swedish celebration is indeed a beautiful thing to observe.
Anyway, yeah, as the guy in the video says, us up here with the long dark winters like to make midsummer special, I think that all countries around the Baltic Sea celebrates in one or another way.
    Happy midsummer everyone 😀

Sweden has Swish, while Norwegian Vipps and Danish MobilePay are basically one company. They all work pretty much like Cash App.
I believe it's difficult, if not impossible, to sign up for those services without a Scandinavian bank account.

One thing to point out about kubb is that the rules can be vastly different. I have never heard that you are supposed to throw the last on at the king through your legs.

Father's Day in Danmark is the 5th of June, it is also our Grundlovsdag. Grundlovsdag is an annual celebration of the introduction of the first Danish constitution on 5 June 1849.

Which is why it's a national crisis if the weather is crap in the runup to Midsummer, and therefore the amount of Swedish strawberries available is low, pushing the price up...
      Similar for fresh potatoes...

Payments - Swish is a system that does bank to bank transfers instantly with your account tied to your phone number (in the case of private indivuduals, and an assigned fictional one for organisations). Things like fruit stands, small restaurants etc. usually have a sheet with their number, and also a QR code of it, posted by the till, so just scan it with the app, (app shows name if recipient), enter amount and optionally a message, hit send and sign with your digital ID.
An individual normally receives a push notice of a received payment - organisations used to - not sure if that's changed - need to check their bank. The app pops up a Sent summary screen that vendors normally accepts, and there was (havent heard anything in a while) a wave of kids/youths using fake apps that looked and acted like the real one, but of course didnt transfer the money...

Yeah we celebrate father’s and mother’s day but it’s not on the same dates as in the US. Many countries celebrate on different days I think.
And Midsummer is ALWAYS on a Friday but the date varies between 19-25 of June.

Midsummer in Sweden is when all the swedes go home on vacation from their Norwegian jobs.

  • @ExclusivelyReclusive1

I'm guessing they only took Swish as payment.
That's a instant payment system connected to your bank and your phone number,
