Only in a JRPG you start the game opposing a millitary regime only to end up fighting a biblically-accurate angel
Always loved Orphan's first form look. It's literally a twisted and distorted physical representation of a mother and father "protecting" their child (the mother figure on the left gently caressing Orphan, the clawed, dominant and more aggressive father on the right defending his child from the offenders). But when it lifts itself up from the water for a heavy damage attack, it's actually shaped like a giant sword "slicing" you in half.
Still to this day, next to Barthandelus, this is one of the most unique boss designs of any game I've played, because of how out-of-the-box and abstract it is. Course, I'm also biased, XIII's art direction is my favorite out of any of the games.
While i do kiiiinda agree, imo this tho still can't compare with kefka as final boss and his tower of bodies version of dante's circles of hell, as how each level of it is designed and how it represents kefka's visions of himself. It's soo messed up and is by far the best boss they've ever designed and twisted imo.
Feel like the first form is just a nod to the old 2D sprites. Very flat design, pretty silly.

@@myamdane6895 Yeah, but it's supposed to be a living entity. Not like all monsters or falcie in the game were designed to live as humans, but this one has human characteristics, so when I see it, all I can think of is when people screenshot Phineas, from Phineas and Ferb, head on.
Fully agree! This is why i believe this will be the only final fantasy to never get a "remaster" as if it needs one... And not be ported to new gens 😭 this game for ps3 was made just beautifully and its pretty hd af. I hope they remaster it for ps5 and add something new to make us few lovers of this game fall in love with it again.

I don't know why everyone hated the paradigm shift system. I always loved it. You needed to set up your teams strategically to win
silver2164 Exactly! And you learn from your mistakes, as you have a chance (if you die) to redo the paragdim setup! The “Paradgim system” in LRFFXIII was also good, but also called for more strategy than he other games because there was only 3 “paradigms” instead of 6.
The problem its because become good in the middle-ending of game, in begining you only use basically attack and raveger, and press x until the end of the battle, but after you need to make strategy like in this fight, then the system became good as fuk
I agree 100% was definitely an underrated fighting system that made the game more “challenging” in the sense that it kinda makes you know your teams strengths and weaknesses who compliments who in a certain fight and what paradigm will be more beneficial.
I loved the battle system. In older Final Fantasy games I'd always get flustered controlling multiple characters at a time, not remembering who had what set-ups, and accidentally misclicking what I wanted to do (healing enemies, for instance). With this system, I can still set up what I want each party member doing at a time, but I only need to select specific actions for one of them, and targeting who I want to target is easier.
I agree, 13 is one my my Favourite Single Player games of all Time, fight system, music, even in 2020 good graphics... I Revisit it this year !

I gotta say. Seeing Lightning and the others turn into C'ieth, Lightning even trying to grip her gunblade with what was likely her final vestiges of humanity only to lose it completely, absolutely chills me.

Very underrated villain, but Barthandelus was really awesome, loved how eloquently he spoke yet every word was menacing. He was cold and relentless!!!

Saboteurs can make this battle easier. Debuffing the enemy while buffing the allies once in a while really helps.
In fact you can't 5 star the orphan battle without saboteurs

Despite the lack of freedoms, this was always one of my favorite entries. Great soundtrack, great atmosphere and level design, story wasnt as cringe to me as some people say it was for them. Loved this corridor runner from start to finish.

Wish we saw more of the paradigm system in older titles. Switching between roles and set playsets was a true feeling of a strategy based game. Ff13 really captured it so well done here

The PC port however was criticized for not only the original gameplay, but it was severely criticized for the quality of the port itself, decrying the low resolution, limited graphical options and low framerate. However, an official patch fixes most of the issues. Compared to the other versions GameRankings gave the PC version *55%* based on only 3 reviews, while Metacritic gave the PC version 65/100 based on only 6 reviews. In other words the PC port can be considered a *Porting Disaster,* which should've stayed as a console only release.
Xenith Xenaku I agree, but I like that they introduced it to people in an overall bigger market. I feel one day that al games on Xbox will be ported to PC, and they’ll all be good.
I recently played the pc version with the mod fixes and it ran really well other than the occasional FPS drop in battle (but still not down to the 30fps that the console version is locked to). With the various HD mods, I'd say it's now the definitive way to play this game.

Also, I can't tell you how annoyed I am by -2 and lightning returns. Seriously, this ending is perfect, and they just louse it all up with two, while noticeably better built, games that really make even less sense than this one did.
I think LR return is kinda good as it give the lore an epic closure. My only issue is XIII-2 with the time travelling plot 'cause it did not contribute much to the world building and caused many unecessary confusion ...

And then Fang and Vanille smother Cocoon in magma and crystal and our protagonists teleport from falling to their deaths to Pulse as crystals and then aren't crystals anymore. Happy ending? Did I miss the point where any of that made sense?
Well you’d change your mind very quickly if the thing you didn’t want to kill now says that it wants you to kill it, but also wants to stop you from killing it and going about ‘destroying’ the world, BUT ALSO wants to torture you for all eternity for trying to prevent it from stopping you trying to kill it before it kills you and then destroys the world itself.
@@apollyonnoctis1291 Umm, not really. It never says it's going to destroy the world, it says it needs you to kill it to destroy the world. It has a consistent point throughout the whole game: killing me is your focus, killing me destroys the world, I want the world destroyed so it can be reset(like every FF villain recently). This "torture for all eternity" point you make is never made by the game, so I'm wondering if you invented an ending or something to help make this game make sense. Can you clarify?
@@note4note804 thats wrong falcie are programmed on 2 thing not harming people and finding the door to the unseen relm so they can summon their maker the original falcie pulse but they cant kill them selves so they fused with orphan who is basicllyy a power supply for coccoon if he dies planet falls millions die gate open wide enough and they can summon pulse to do his job because he is lazy and left it to them

@@blackchase6732 Where did you read this? I know Mywn is still in Valhalla but I don't even remember any details that said Pulse will enter the gate and kill Mywn. Bhunivelze told Lindzei to awaken him when the gate was opened so he could enter and kill Mywn. Also, why would Pulse kill Etro when she's the only one that can hold the balance between mortal and afterlife? You see what happened when Etro is dead during FF13-2 ending.

Final boss was hard as hell
i forgot to open fast travel so i was unable to grind so i deleted my file and decided am just going to watch the ending on here and move on too 13X2 am not putting in another 50 hours.

I remembe when i first bet this game i was sad in fact it brought a tear to my eye because it was such an Emotional ride, Between the characters
and the story i really connected to snow wanting to be the hero and save the woman he loves, and hope fighting revenge and not having faith. and lighting till this day will always be my favorite final fantasy protagonist beautiful game hands down and the soundtrack.😍💕✝
oh when i beat it my character well was only 4k hp each i really had to cycle paradigm around to heal and buff quickly and haste is a god send buff
the next thing i know i could feel class zero pulling me out of the darkness into the light just charge in with a battlecry

I 100% agree with you that about orphans merciless judgment attack that attack I think can actually kill you Can it. If you're hp is below a certain threshold thankfully I found out you can use status almonds against him. That makes this fight significantly easier.

Level Lionheart up to level * (Max 21) then use the transformation catalyst to transform it to Omega.

I hated the death clock mechanic thats what caused me not to be able to finish this game all those years ago
are you talking about Lightning returns? because in this game that countdown thing called Doom and already been in Final Fantasy games since forever
Death clock is tricky but for Orphan it's simple. He's immune to all attacks until you stagger him, so you need to have a Tri-disaster paradigm (all ravagers) set up to trigger that stagger gauge as fast as possible, then have either Aggression (2 commandos + ravager) or Cerberus (3 commandos) paradigm ready to go and swap into it immediately to blast Orphan to hell before Doom runs out. If you can't kill him before his stagger resets, immediately repeat that strategy and you'll kill him on the second stagger which is still plenty of time before Doom clock runs out.
I am just here cuz 9 year old me never figured out how to beat orphans bs OhKO move lol and I wanted to see how close I was to the end of the game I was. Disappointed I was only 2 fights from the finish but looking at it now I had half as much hp as this guy did lol

Merciless judgement always deals about 90% of your partys hp the trick is to switch 1-2 members to sentinel before it happens as it reduces the damage delt to your party.

Thats because it wasn't Ragnarok. Fang couldn't complete the transformation because she didn't have the will to go through with it. The form her and Vanille take during the end cutscene is the true form, because they had the will to use it.

Aye the game play was fun in it's own way unfortunately people still wanted the old FF system
I'm always disappointed by these later FF's with so few characters in a party and a lack of character development. FFVI had the most characters to date and that was a 16-bit game. You got to seek out their individual destinies and learn a little more about each character in the game. Despite FFIV being my very first FF game, I really enjoy VI the most. The others are absolutely beautiful, but I don't really care about the other characters like I did with VI and IX (nine was just adorable on so many levels and kinda felt like playing a the old-school FF games). Still, i prefer this FF over XV just because of the wonderful shades of color and life as opposed to the six colors used in XV: grey, steel grey, black, ivory black, peach and blond.
Some of them were useless. But you had the option of raising their individual stats. You were in charge of which spells they learned. There was a lot of customization in FFVI and that's what made it fun. I don't like having my characters be so set in their roles that I don't have a choice in how they develop. Sure you could attach skills and different attacks to them in later FF games. But what if I didn't always want Garnet a weak mage? What if I wanted her to have strong VIG and strong MAG? You could do that in FFVI.
Remy Lov go back and play Final Fantasy 7 that should be your first Final Fantasy game you ever play it's brilliant from beginning to end it's worth it
I'll play FFVII once given the time (playing RS2, OdinSL, P5 & P4) but my first was FFVI. No matter how good FFVII might be, I will always choose FFVI. And I loved the hell out of FFIX, but...yeah...I want more characters. What can I say?
My first FF game was IV. Still play it to this game. I feel as though one day, in another time paradox like in XIII-2, all the FF characters will share a new story, new developments in storylines, new villains, new EVERYTHING, pretty much. That would be fairly intriguing, and, I mean, with how big Marvel is, and how big Square Enix is, I’m pretty sure a game like that could really introduce some really cool stuff, and it would probably be a big hit. (Like I said, Square Enix has a huge community of fans, and it’s STILL growing.)

The only good part of the entire FF13 trilogy is how Born Anew syncs up to Orphan's introductory spiel.

I uninstalled the game after the third attempt fighting his second form and went straight to youtube to look at the ending lol. This player had his characters over 20k HP. I was barely over 9k. Plus I completed like 70% of the missions. Shouldn't be this hard to beat a game. Mind you I completed Dark Souls 3 with no problem
It shouldn't be that hard if you really understand the game's mechanics. 9k Hp is more than enough.
I think it's all about how you use the paradigms. I went in with hp somewhere in the 5k range my most recent playthrough and did really well. But the first time I beat the game my hp was even lower, but I still managed to 5 star Orphan in both forms
I don't know how I did it apparently, cause I haven't been able to do that since that first time :/

Just keep a Tortoise paradigm on standby (All 3 party members in sentinel [defense] mode) or the other paradigm with 2 sentinels and a medic, you'll take severely less damage from Orphan's attacks, especially that judgment where he pulls his sword body out and slices the whole team. Also have a buffer paradigm to swap into to help your attack and defense and you can bust up Orphan without needing to grind to 20k HP
