  • John D'Agostino of Celebrity Kustoms has been chasing the Hirohata for years and last year he ended his search after he finally bought the car of his dreams. Greg caught up with John at the 2017 Portland Roadster Show, which is the last indoor event on US soil before the car goes to Europe for a long term road show tour. Penny Pichette of West Coast Kustoms stopped by to talk about the Hirohata's last show (The West Coast Kustoms Cruisin' Nationals), which is her outdoor show on Memorial Day weekend in California.
    Each year, John presents his award to his show favorite and this year Tommy Carr's Custom 1936 Ford Coupe won that award (look for Tommy's video at RDR for details on that beautiful car).

    No recreation will take thunder away from the original.....also no dollar value can be placed on the original due to the history/historical value of the car.....today the original is in the peterson museum

    In 1975, my coach knew I loved old cars. I had a '56 BelAir and I was 16 yrs old. One day he said, "let's go for a ride" and we went to his childhood home. In the back was a garage. He opened the double-door garage and there stood a perfect black James Dean '51 Mercury. His father took the car from him in 1955 because he got in some trouble. He would not tell me what he had done. But he never got the car back! So the car had like 7,500 miles on it. We got in and started it and I said, "wow." He let me drive it on the property because it had no plates. I never forgot that sound or the beauty of how it drove.

    I think making a copy of a classic original like this is criminal. If you make a copy of the Mona Lisa it's called a forgery not a recreation.

    • @nickt6689
      @nickt6689 Před 3 lety +7

      It's only a forgery if it is passed off as the original. This is presented as a re-creation.

      Nothing wrong with making a replica! It’s wrong to try and pass it off as an original! Or the replica is such an a poor representation of the original! That’s a crime!

      Yes , me too... this wasnot original tasted. And btw they didnt put Masoto Bob Hirohata's name on this car signature.

    The color scheme is too dark on this car well I guess it is a recreation replicas LOL I guess it's okay I know you put a lot of work into it but why did you paint it so dark?

      They didnt even put Masoto Bob Hirohata signature on this car identity. This is disgusting. Th3y simply stole the Historical 1951 mercury BODYWORK, making "copy" and took fame. Hirohata must have family and frends in california.

    I would love to have a replica of the Hirohata Merc! Iconic! One of a kind! However I must admit I would paint it Black with red interior. Chrome reverse rims on some redline tires! That’s how you roll right!
