- In this tutorial I'm gonna show how to model a fake 3D toiletpaper roll in After Effects. No third party 3D plugins, just with native filters like the CC Cylinder effect.

And here is the snippet of after effects expressions code I used in my tutorial:
-thisComp.layer("Control").effect("Roll")("Slider")/(width*Math.PI)*360
You can copy and paste it intro the according expressions windows.

Hi Sara. Thank you very much😎. Also thanks for knowing me about Three.js. I haven’t heard anything about it yet. I did some research. Unfortunately it’s not possible because my solution is a fake 3D solution. You have to model a toilet paper roll in a real 3D app like cinema4d. I’m sure there’s a free toilet paper model and if not there are websites like turbosquid.com where you can buy such a model for a few dollars

Excellent tutorial!
I added a cap to the other side, giving me more range of motion... There are still issues with the core if you move too far, but this was such a great learning experience!

@12:24 - I don't know the coding, yet, I think there's a potential there to extract an expression that Automatically links the rotation of this circle - onto it's X or Y Position and have it Rotate according to it's position (i.e- Not using slider control). Just don't know what the code should look like 😅
K, found something, but it has far more lines. seems like an overkill. Paste it under Rotation + animate that layer's position.
Wonder what else could be used with expression in this realm, which takes value from a certain Transform, and changes another value appropriately....
diameter=width;
pi=Math.PI;
circumference=diameter*pi;
rot=360/circumference;
Xpos=thisLayer.transform.position[0];
scalePercent=thisLayer.transform.scale[0]/100;
rot*Xpos/scalePercent

If I recall correctly there must be a composition “_Texture_Toiletpaper”. You can add a textlayer inside it. Hope that works.
