They are not being aggressive because they know if they go for a final attack on him, he will pass them easily or ridicule them. It's more fear than respect. If Ronaldinho was playing now, he would do the same with all the defenders from this era as well.
Ronaldinho learnt to ride the hard challenges. He wanted to stay on his feet, and continue to entertain. He may not be the GOAT on stats, but is easily the GOAT of football entertainment. I love Messi, and appreciate CR7, but they are not half as fun to watch in every single game. Ronaldo (original) and Denilson, and Matthew Le tissier all in one (Maybe not the speed and power of ronaldo)
You also couldn't just fall like neymar does, and expect a free kick in those days

You had some great takes... 800+ goals means you could score. Way more to the game then that being the one to do most of the scoring. Zidane... Ruud Gullit... Roberto Carlos... Matthuas... and a host of others in all kinds of positions. Ronaldinho isn't getting roughed up in these highlights, but as I remember it, La Liga and Series A were scrappy and could be dirty as F when he played. They fouled the heck out of him--those didn't make the highlights though some failed tackles are in the highlight reels..
You can see him dodge 2 footed tackles, the defending was harder in those days. If they could take him out, they would. Pirilo, gattuso, selgado. Look at the names of the players he is destroying
