  • We're below lock 4 in downtown Frankfort, and we're catching some trophy fish! Sauger gather below dams in the late winter and early spring. They're also one of the tastiest fish around... Join us as Bill and Mark show us how it's done!

    One of the best bits of information was the fact that you made sure folks know they are going to loose a good few lures when your fishing for sauger. Thank you!

    Man! I love the color cammo on those sauger. I like that you CAN get them from shore and what simple gear is required to do it. Good presentation, guys! Conservation works.

    Cast right to the end of the lock wall. I have caught a decent number of big ones at locks in the KY river

    Paddle tail (aka- sassy shad) are without a doubt one of the best baits ever invented. We also catch plenty of saugeye and walleye on chartreuse curly tail grubs with a pink head. Who's buying lunch?

  • @calcrappie8507
    @calcrappie8507 Před rokem

    Nice size. That's like our average size eater walleye in the upper Mississippi River in Minnesota. Plenty of sauger here too. 6 is a good daily limit because they can be wide open or lockjaw.

    Kentucky game & fish department needs a pat on the back .Not only do you have nice size fish but an abundance ! Here in Nebraska on the Missouri river you would be lucky to catch that caliber of fish maybe once every 3 trips to the river.( 80 mile 1 way trip for us.) I have no problem limiting out on 14" -16" fish .The larger fish are very few. I also cant believe you guys catching fish in the fog !

    You can see a slight white mark on the bottom of the tailfin. With a Walleye it is more pronounced. Sauger lack any tail marking. So I am told.

    They are such a beautiful fish. I wish I could go fishing for em. They are illegal to fish for in New York state because they are critically endangered:/

      If you catch one release it quickly, with fishing any species will take a bait/lure.Keep checking the NYFWD site for when they will be a legal catch again.

    Those are not Sauger. Those are Saugeye. Sauger have spots in the dorsal fin not bars as both of those fish have. And Sauger don't have as big of a white tip on their tail as those fish do. But Saugeye do have that big of a white tip on their tail, as do walleye. Sauger have more of a pinkish white line along bottom tail fin, Look at those fish dorsal fins closely.

    Pretty bad none of them seem to know they caught Saugeye not Sauger. And far from trophy size. Look at this you tube video of what a Sauger really looks like. Notice Sauger don't have black spot at end of dorsal fin either. (One of My FAVORITE Fish to Catch!! (Early Season Sauger) VIDEO on you tube

      For sure, man fish like that don’t come around everyday. Where I fish we have good numbers, but they usually measure around 13-14 inches. Gotta be 15 to keep here

    Idk where I live in Southwest Pennsylvania I have caught a couple sauger and saugeye in 10 mile creek near my house and I was using a live minnow on a bobber so idk if being on the bottom matters that much. Then again I wasn’t targeting them and haven’t caught a whole bunch or anything like that just one here and there lol

    Why is this used in the January 11 2020 episode? It isn't hard to catch cold water Sauger. Get some new footage and stop being a fraud.
