    Thank you Sweden for ABBA and Roxette.. When Abba dissolved in the 80s Roxette became the poster child of Swedens pop..

    Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson who passed away in 2019 after a long battle with a brain tumour, did do a duet with Frida from ABBA, called, "Alla mina bästa år" ("All My Best Years") - from Frida's 1996 album Djupa andetag (Deep Breaths)

    Tyler's all double-X today!
    Roxette songs to get a better feel of the band from: Dangerous, The Look, Church of Your Heart, Sleeping In My Car, Fading Like A Flower, Dressed for Success, Paint, Spending My Time. Being a male/female Swedish band, they'll always get the ABBA comparisons, but musically were very different. Marie died not that long ago after a lengthy battle with brain cancer... very sad.

    I reckon you'll love "The look" by Roxette. ABBA had a tribute motiff in one of their songs on voyage whivh referenced Roxette's song listen to your heart (another decent one by Roxette). Perhaos due to Marie's recent passing in 2019.

  • @Abbadonhades
    @Abbadonhades Před 2 lety +4

    Seeing "Pretty woman" in the background reminds me it's been some time since I last watched that movie. Abba was mainly active between 1972-1982, and had a clear disco style. Roxette was formed in 1986 and were active until 2019 when vocalist Marie Fredriksson died. Their genre is soft rock. Roxettes golden era was between the late 80's to the mid 90's.

    • @Abbadonhades
      @Abbadonhades Před 2 lety

      @German Morawski You're probably right, I don't know their roots. But after ABBA got famous, their repertoire mainly consisted of ballads and disco music.

    This song was originally written to be a X-mas song with other lyrics.. but Per Gessle got a request for a song to the Movie Pretty Woman and re-wrote the lyrics which resulted in this version.. He is one he.. of a songwriter !!.. R.I.P. Marie, but also to Pelle Alsing.. the drummer who passed away only one year after Marie.. He was a sweet soul, I used to meet him at the local cafe/kiosk Cafe Brasco here in Stockholm !! Thank you for the Music !!

The first band who played in the MTV Unplugged outside the USA. And many other achievements that I forgot. Hello. Abba and Roxette are from the same country, Sweden. However they are not from the same time period. Abba became famous in the seventies. Roxette became famous in the eighties and nineties. I also must disagree with you regarding your review of this song. "It Must Have Been Love" is a wonderful power ballad. The vocal performance of Marie Fredriksson is beautiful, sensitive, and powerful. The lyrics are poetic, and profound. The lyrics are not "empty" and they do not "hinder" the song. I think that the two of you seriously misjudged this song.

    I mean I'm sure people are gonna come for me but whatever...I love ABBA and it's not an insult AT ALL...but I really believe that Ace of Base were more of an ABBA sequel...in a more cheesy poppy way, it was the same set up (2 guys, 2 girls) and they were Swedish, and the guys wrote all of the material. The songs weren't nearly as good as ABBA but they had the desire that's for sure, another group that captures the essence of ABBA is Steps...who were huge in the UK and other parts of the world in the late 90's and early 2000's but then broke up in 2002, only to reunite in 2017 for another album which was AMAZING ("Tears On The Dancefloor), Steps definitely has the harmonies of ABBA, and have bright happy sounding songs with very dark lyrics.
