    Thanks, really useful. Initially had mine set so it was almost tamping, and was ending up with an uneven ramp too. Will set tool to the highest and work back.

    Really great vid bro! This helped out a lot since I was having weird problems with extraction. Turned out that my distribution tool was set a bit too deep. Would’ve never found out. Now the extraction looks a whole lot more even and the coffee tastes much better. Again, thanks!

      Loved the video bro! It was really helpful, I’ve had weird extraction issues. Found out (thanks to you) that the tool was set a bit too deep. It’s a lot more even now and the stream is right in the middle. Thanks again!

    But why do you still tamp after using the distribution tool? I see a lot of users never using the tamper anymore.

      You’re welcome Niels!
      Considering you’ve set the tool at the right depth, the coffee isn’t fully compressed (like the last part of the video). This leaves potential air pockets with less desirable results. What I’ve experienced is that the potential for channeling and uneven extraction is much higher. If the tool is set right and tamped afterwards, I personally had the best and most consistent results.

    Is leveling with the finger is good enough as well? Though with the finger I dont reach grinds below surface

      If there aren’t many clumps in the coffee and your technique is right, then it should be more than enough!

    Looks like a great tool. Thanks for the vid! I noticed there seems to be 2 models - One a 58mm and another a 58.5mm - Which one are you using and do you think either would make a noticeable difference in the shot?

      Thank you Peter for the compliment! At the moment I’m using the 58mm, but will probably in the near future change it to a larger one. The real difference is if you use a better fitting one (depending on your filter basket), the chance of channeling is reduced on the edges. Same thing goes with the tamper, which I upgraded a while ago. It has significantly reduced the chance of channeling during extraction.

      @@iBarista Thanks for the reply. I hunted around online for this same model and eventually went with a Lelit 58.55mm Distributor. Was reasonably priced as well. Looks exactly the same. It might actually be the same product just rebranded with Lelit on it I suspect.

      @@peterhughes4964 I suspect it too :) but at the end, it’s the result that matters. Especially combined with a high quality filter basket, it’ll transform your espresso experience

    Brillant video! I have just bought a levelling tool and just used it for the first time. After using the tool I looked inside I could see marks from the tool in the espresso. Why is that? Too much coffee or the tool set too deep? Thank you.

      Thanks! Are you turning it clockwise or counterclockwise?
      If clockwise and you see the imprint of the tool it’s either of the two. So first check what basket size you’re using. Lets say for now it’s an 18gr basket. Second the amount of coffee shouldn’t exceed 18 gr (especially if it’s a dark roast) due to to the volume of the ground coffee. Thirdly, spin the tool several times to even it out.
      In my opinion; you’ve reached the correct depth if the grounds are level and when tamping the coffee bed it compresses about 5 mm (about ¼ inch). Hope it helps!

      Hi! The leveler is fully made out of metal.

    I've seen alot of people just use the Distribution tool set deep enough that it also tamps as well. So no need for a tamper. What are your thoughts on just using the distribution tool alone (set at a deep enough depth) so you don't have to tamp?

    4:15 - did I just see that basket bulge out?

      Yes you did! Well it always happens to a certain extend because of the pressure. In this case due to the distribution tool being set too low and the coffee being compressed too much, the water has a lot of difficulty passing through. Hence the extreme bulging.

      @@iBarista I think I also saw it with your "proper" depth as well at around 5:40, though. Makes me think you should consider replacing your basket if it's bulging under what should be normal pressures.

      @@brandishwar I chance out my baskets every year but do consider that normal pressure (9 bar) translates to more than 9 kg/cm2. So for this size basket it’s around 240 kg of force pushing down.

    Can you make it simple and just give us the depth to set it to relative to something, like 'half way between the top and the tamped' or 4mm above it's tamped height, anything...
