      I have friends that are from several different paths interested in this. priest, teacher, mechanic, engineer, nurse...
      Heh even the Swedish crown princess has been taught by Lars Fält (look him up) about these things, so literally all walks.
      I think we humans are more or less "programmed" to do basic prepping over Millenia of war/famine/natural disasters... Our ancestors always carried at least a cutting tool and knowledge of fire making and how to make stuff to improve the chance of survival, everything from a simple birchbark cup to string, traps and some basic plants that are edible.

    We (Beautiful Bride & family) appreciate the upgrades. A short walk into the jingle in our tropical environment can turn deadly without the ability to rehydrate. My general preference is to house a kit inside a container that may also be used to pasteurize water and cook food. Some means to store collected and processed water is important. Electrical tape or quality duck tape on the container's seams will help keep the contents dry if that is important to you. The tape is also an additional fire extender

    Don't use the lid to trace out the mirrored film. Trace the bottom of the tin as the template for the mirror. That is the smallest dimensional plane that fits inside the lid. The protective film could be removed from the mirror (or not), replacing it with the fresnal lense that would protect it. You could also wrap the orange 100 lb cord around a mandrel, i.e., the whistle. Secure the ends with a tab of tape. Note: all of the unused real estate inside and outside of the tin. Stickers or metal etching could put useful info on those surfaces. Morse code, purification tablet directions, whatever...

  • @SusanLand
    @SusanLand Před 4 měsíci +1

    Wow, really thoughtful add ins. I love the sticky mirror best. I would have traded for some bigger safety pins and maybe sealed around it with some electrical tape. Also, another use for alcohol prep pads is sniffing them to helps relieve nausea. I kid you not. Great to have you back. I really missed your videos. 😀

    I can't help but be honest here It's a nice simple kit and what you did made it way better. But truthfully in the original assortment of stuff that was in there you can find and but it all for packs of 5 or 10 for anywhere between $1 too at most $3 dollars and make yourself a ton of these kit's too toss in the truck back pack wife's car and so on and probably still be under the cost these kit's usually cost. I'm not trying too knock the guy's hustle I'm just being honest. I purchased a 10 pack of those derma safe blades for literally a $1.50 and you can buy those button compass for a buck and get 5 too 10 of them and so on. The most expensive part of that kit was the tin itself and the water purifying pills.

    • @KitbashedSurvival
      @KitbashedSurvival  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The guy who made the kit isn't trying to sell a bunch of them. He's mainly making them just as a hobby. That's why I didn't talk about a price or anything.

    Hi Eric! I’m back again after posting my first comment and watching this video again. Once again, I’m putting in a good word for Wazoo Survival Gear! Wazoo markets a one liter emergency water bag that you can purify water in with tablets OR you can actually boil water in! The bag is rated up to 400 degrees, is extremely light weight and folds down very small. You could probably get two of these bags in the tin for the same space as the MRE bag! I started including the Wazoo bags in all my survival kits! Just wanted to share this with you. Definitely worth checking out! Again Eric, glad you are back and looking forward to your future videos!

    This set was actually generous for it's size. I like that it has two ways to start fire. Maybe striker was bit redundant (piece of metal saw is lighter, slimer and made of carbon steel). After Your addiction (especially water container) this is really nice set.

    Leaving the paracord ends unsealed, will mean that you have easy access to the finer fibres in the core. Effectively giving you a lot more than two foot of cordage.

    The only gripe I have about the " pocket sized edc kit" is the lack of room in the tins. Overall, it's a good idea, but one is soo limited in room. I have watched many many videos on this idea thru the years, and a lot of you tubers suggest using a belt pouch in conjunction with the tin to make available room for items that just won't fit inside the tin. I have seen some of them suggest a belt pouch for a cell phone, which I thought was a good idea. It's obvious that they are for cell phones and I'm sure a lot of people just assume that a phone is what is inside the pouch. They don't draw attention to you. Well, just wanted to share my thoughts with you on this subject.

The only thing I would've of done is try fit a victorinox multi tool with saw blade or wire saw and mini bic or some paper matches along with the other fire starter stuff and couple piece of hard candy of some sort and mini fishing kit or some sort of small fishing bait since it already has safety pins and cordage Is all ive done on inside. A good trick for the firestarters is squish them in a vice or hammer them, they flatten right out. You will need to re-fluff them when going to use them but you can fit like twice as many. You may need to submerge them in some warm water first if they dont stay flat.

Most people would be far better off to spend a few dollars and make their own kit that contained items that would actually be helpful in a 3 day plus situation. These little kits are fun to put together but about as practical as mud in the rain. Ax
