Seeing RTD talk about Doctor Who again is a delight in itself. You can just see his face beam up with how much he loves the series.
Honestly, seeing RTD so hyped puts my heart at ease and raises my hype so much. Whatever he saw in the new doctor shows. This is the guy who casted 9 and 10 so my faith unwavering.
From what I’ve seen of him, he looks like he will bring a lot of comedy and drama into the role. I really hope that this will start another golden generation for this show.
Also agree with you about the sonic screwdriver.
I haven’t seen his work but I think the humour depends on the writers. Being able to writing the scene were the can be funny for the show

When I first heard of the news that Ncuti Gatwa will be playing the 14th Doctor. I was that "Who is Ncuti Gatwa. I never heard of him before". I never watch Sex Education on Netflix but after the news was announced I immediately look him up to see what he's like and his acting skills and I can definitely see the Doctor in him. I also like that RTD is taking an young relatively unknown actor like Matt Smith was when he was cast as the Doctor and showing us was he has to offer. It rather exciting actually.
I have to wonder on who the actor/actress was that RTD had in mind before Ncuti Gatwa started auditioning. Maybe that person will be cast as the 15th Doctor. Who knows.

I also want the new era to be awesome, it's been a hard slog getting to this point in time, but I think it's 'time' to get excited again about this show so many people love. You mentioned your first doctor (McGann), mine was Jon Pertwee in Planet of the Spiders... and as a kid, my god, did this show fire the imagination - and its sheer creativity kept us hooked for each new episode.
In 2005 RTD did the right thing - the only thing he could - with the show. Now I hope he has the freedom to make it better than ever and take us forward, through the 60th year, with pride. I think Ncuti Gatwa will be awesome.

I can imagine once he was chosen he immediately filmed his entrance scene into being the 14th, I do pray the Tardis set is not only calling back to some previous sets from Jodie, Matt and Peter's sets but something that screams this new Doctor's style. Heck give Yaz 13s sonic as a parting gift. I do hate how people treat Jodie Whittaker as it is not her fault though you do have interesting stories that Chibnal has problems properly explaining like the Doctor being the Timeless child as if it was something introduced during the Russell T. Davies or Steven Moffat era of show running doctor who it would be explained 10x better by either one of those two. I do see Russell taking cues of the timeless child plothole and making monsters that can be from the doctor's unknown forgotten past where these monster's remember the doctor but the doctor won't recognize them or would have forgotten about them.
Hopefully it will be good and they won’t milk the whole black doctor thing this guy is a perfect pick for his comedic and drama acting skills
Okay, hear me out... I'm interested to see if Ncuti Gatwa will be a big energy factor for the show. But after him, we should have Paterson Joseph as The Doctor. Because Pat is just brilliant. yes he was in Doctor Who before playing another character that's unrelated, but so was Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi, so shush. (Before you go to IMDb, he played "Rodrick" in The Parting of the Ways and Bad Wolf)
Not the most grand reveal, but i can't wait to see his take on the doctor with RTD's writing

I was disappointed with the way it was announced, but if it was going to be leaked..then fair enough, I don't really know much about him, but I didn't know that much about Matt Smith and I think he turned out to be one of the best, so am looking forward to seeing what he can do and hopefully we get some decent stories. Fashion wise I want to see the "Cricket jumper " make a come back! (Peter D) 🏏 (Cool review)
this is quite a random take but i saw something on tiktok saying they’d love to see the trickster come back and personally he’s one of my fave villains from sja and it’d be great if he could come to dr who

Whilst the social media announcement does seem cheap I think that's more appropriate for the world we live in nowadays with trailers and news being dropped outta nowhere. The shock of it can make people more likely to share it like I did so gets the word out. Still get how understated they prefer to treat the show tho.
OK him in the blue jacket with the turtle neck jumper the Russell T Davies bronze daleks, Jodie's tardis and a cool sonic screwdriver almost like David's and boom perfect in My opinion very blue ik but it will contrast with russles usual oranges. Not like chibnal just lighting blue and orange but warm colours surrounding this man dressed in cold colours emphasising that what came before he has to now fix. (Him and Russell lol)

With the fantastic writing of RTD and his talent for being able to do drama and comedy as on SEX EDUCATION he will be amazing as The Doctor I am excited to see what he and RTD have in store for us with series 14 also what will his costume be? What will his Tardis look like? New Sonic? How will be play it? I believe in this.

I am sorry but I would not be able to take him seriously as an actor, I think they should hire, an actor who is a lot older , I saw Ncuti Gatwa on that show on netflix I thought he was okay as an actor but still do not think he would be a good doctor , however I could be proven wrong lol

Personally I don't see him as the Doctor and feel pretty meh about the casting. I'll definitely keep an open mind though and give the new era a fair shake when it comes out.

They need to stop making The Doctor all dark and angry and furious and get back to the form the way Doctors were in Classic Who.
@@joshuaverran9443 i very much disagree. Some of the best moments are when the show gets serious, you have triumphant moments, cool moments, then you have sad moments. It adds to the drama and makes the show more emotional, and makes the doctor seem like a person by showing this kind of emotion, but in such an extreme way that it also shows how much of an alien he is
I have hope that series 14 will be good! The first season for a new (or in this case returning showrunner) is usually their best. Look at series 1 for Davies and series 5 for Moffat!
I just hope RTD reboots and ignores the timeless child crap.
Me I’m still going to watch cause it’s doctor who I don’t think chris chibnall and jodie whittaker are as bad as people make them out to be the era isn’t perfect but no era of the show has been perfect and I’m one who needs to see footage of him in the role to properly judge him I just hope they keep his outfit simple so we don’t have to break the bank to cosplay as his version for halloween or for a convention with the announcement if feels like they were going to announce it at the baftas cause when they announced him to present an award they mentioned his casting so it feels like someone behind the scenes of the award show saw the script with the announcement in it and they told the press there and they probably called for a confirmation on it and they told the social media team to get it out there to get ahead of the leak thst was about to happen cause you’re not the first whotuber I have seen make the about to be leaked claim

As to add on to Steven's point about Doctor who has always been progressive but it not being the story is the character of Jack (and the doctor) both being lgbtq characters and we do focus on it but its not the central focus of either of their characters its just naturally apart of them and i feel Russel will do the same here
From what the rumour mill is that some of the red top papers had got a hold of the news. Hence with the BAFTAs it would have been awkward if they tried to pin him down on the red carpet.
I saw that more and more people have been watching Sex Education, which is a Netflix show. So they have been getting lots more viewers. So maybe there will be a Netflix deal for Doctor Who spin offs

Even though I disagree with you on the newer seasons management and have personally really enjoyed them, especially Jodie as 13, I'm also really excited for this new era. Ncuti Gatwa is a briliant actor from what I've seen and nobody can do Doctor Who quite like Russel T Davies, very excited to see what's in store.
Let’s see him give “A Scale Model of War” speech. Once I hear him deliver those lines, that will likely sell me. 😉

I’m no fan of the Jodie era, but most do. Matt smith’s could have really used less of them.

I don't think the lack of a big announcement has anything to do with the state of the show. I think it indicates a younger target audience. People my age don't want a big extravagant announcement, especially for a show that has next to no viewers anymore. A little cryptic post on Instagram will do it

Interesting choice! I get a lot of Matt Smith vibes from him. Hopefully he can nail the more dramatic, darker side of the character, something which 13 and Chibnall failed to do imo. It all comes down the material he is given and the quality of the scripts. I have hope for series 14. Russell is a better showrunner than Chibnall or Moffatt and has had time to develop new ideas for the show, so hopefully we get stories that are of the same quality as series 1 of the relaunch. 2 things that the show needs to do is extend the episode count from 10 to 12 or 13 per season, like the first 10 series and please for the love of god get rid of the daleks for at least 2 series! The last time they were good were in The Parting Of The Ways, give them a rest!

I'm in love with the casting of Ncuti as The Doctor, I can really see it, he's a fantastic actor that has proven with Sex Education that he can really steal the show, especially with the more Eric-centred episodes, and with Russell. T. Davies back at the helm as the showrunner, he's definitely in safe hands, and I can certainly see RTD and Ncuti being a huge power duo for the show going forward, and will bring a fresh take to the show and restart and revamp the glory days of Doctor Who, and I say the best of luck to the both of them, I have the utmost faith in them.
