A lot of people aren't ready for this conversation but: in many of these societies, children are expected to make a monetary contribution to their households. They won't be playing or studying if these jobs don't exist. They'll actually be scraping by, looking for a job. The toxic, entitled adults in these cultures will force these kids on an even more dangerous route than working in a sweatshop, such as selling internal organs or being victims of sex trafficking. The best immediate solution to instill strict requirements for how employees are to be treated, and to follow through by maintaining a regular routine of unscheduled visitations to the factories.

It's already hard enough for kids to consider their parents the issue, as they depend on their parents due to their stage of development, much less being told that they are letting down millions of people be standing out. And if these kids try to hash it out on their own, they have incredibly limited options- they'll likely end up selling organs or getting into prostitution. There is not much infrastructure to accommodate domestic (parental or spousal) abuse victims in these areas because that is a normalized aspect of these cultures.
The UN participates in trafficking children... And you can't force these cultures to up and change on a dime. You have to coax them into it. They won't be playing or studying just because their factory was shut down. Rather, they will be placed into even more dangerous circumstances. So they need to keep their jobs. They just need safer jobs until the given societies are comfortable with recognizing the needs of their children (better sleep, longer mealtimes, less pressure to be perfect, free time to explore hobbies and even other professional avenues).
Yea, a lot of companies do this. People say how bad it is, but I don’t see them going to save the children from the factories, or even taking steps to help them

Cancelling a business is called a boycott and we need to be able to refer to other historical boycotts to make a difference
@@Rosemary46840ancelling barely even solves a problem, just gets rid of it or making something less popular w/o actually rectifying the problem. Basically the lazy man’s activism.
👏👏👏
Really said “stop the keyboard activism and spread awareness!!” what in the Merriam-Webster do you believe the difference is?
Everyone, stop blogging about it and spread the word. the people have a right to know!
Instead of boycotting and cancelling , they need to pay them more and have benefits. Likely never happen with them crooked politicians . That's what's needs to change!
The whole point of their company is that their clothes are cheap.
Their kids!!!! They shouldn't b working what u talking about
@@AngelRios-bc1cf but they just HAVE to do it, get food for themselves and who knows even their family, and if they're paid more at least they could get food and be able to fulfill their other needs. If they can't stop child labour least they could do is pay those poor children a little better than pennies.
Ideally what we really need to do is to get the heck out of their country leave them alone let them do their thing, and bring the manufacturing back to this country were there are labor laws, and we’re people can be paid a living wage
@@luciaandducks right and then the whole reason that we need cheap clothes is because wages in this country have been suppressed for nearly 50 years. It’s all a system that they have concocted and it works really well for them. Not so much for us and when they think that we are about to complain, they find an immigrant group for us to hate and blame for our problem.
I bought something once and I literally saw help me written on the tag
I’m sorry but why are you just calling out SHEIN if many other company’s do this too- like it’s many other of them too using child labor so stop blaming it on only one of them
Ok the older I get the more grateful I am for everything I have.
I remember hearing stores from when my grandmother was a kid. It wasn't uncommon for mothers to make clothes for their kids. One woman who was in her 90s talked about floral dresses her mother would make from flour sacks. Back then the flour came in cloth sacks with floral prints on them. They would buy the sack of flour and then make a dress out of the cloth sack once the flour was used up. I think sewing is a skill I think every parent could benefit from learning.
Yes it is a skill. My cousin in cambodia did this too
I think the flour sack dresses became popular in depression period but I think it was quite popular I think even after
One of my teachers had a flower sack blanket from the Great Depression apparently flour companies knew they were gonna be used for clothes so they put nice patterns on the bags
lots of people here dont have time to learn sewing
that's so cutee

We really need to make companies pay 25% of their profits to the factory workers as a bonus
The sad thing is these kids do this willingly because they need to support their families with anything they can get, this is some families only way to get any money at all.
Any cheap shipping company from China is automatically a red flag
It’s not only shein!! Every clothing factories do the same!
Why do they call it child labor. Call it what it is. Child slavery and why do we not help? UN needs to be involved
Their parents make them work. These employers don’t snatch up these kids. It’s the PARENTS, probably the mom.
every extra penny counts, so including as many family members as possible is gonna raise the family’s finances and increase their chance of surviving.
@@lienisacow it’s pathetic when parents need their little children helping the finance. Fine when they are older.
@@ploopploopploopboop1887 What you probably don't realize is that the cultures with child slavery are collectivist in nature. If someone sees a kid independently grinding away, they will not respect that child. They will accuse the child of letting down their entire country by not standing in solidarity with the group.
The first step is for Western companies to perform random, unscheduled inspections of the facilities. Or they need to pull out in the event that the foreign entities disallow them from enforcing standards. Once they get their feet in the door, they need to advance workplace safety and worker security/benefits. Children are expected to work in these cultures.
“I have dental pain” 💀
Yea, a lot of companies do this. People say how bad it is, but I don’t see them going to save the children from the factories, or even taking steps to help them
Me going back to shein to order😭😭

I listened to a podcast from a guy from Bangladesh who said that the issue isn't child labor itself because it keeps kids from getting in trouble over there. But the main issue is just the working conditions they work in.
Here's a thought instead of children working to 'keep them out of trouble' what about they are able to go to school instead? It's not a career choice by the parents for the children, it's survival.
@@gail9299 Sounds great but it’s not that simple. In some parts of various countries the families are too poor to survive & so even the kids drop out of school to make money to help the family. Or parents die & kids are working to take care of their siblings etc.
No ethical consumption under capitalism.

it’s not just shein. we should be mass boycotting all major fast fashion companies; zara, h&m.. these companies destroy the environment and ruin people’s lives. please consider preloved or secondhand fashion. it can be just as cheap and comes without the abuse.
Pre-loved and second-hand clothing was also manufactured by big companies, sooooooo! The clothes don't get a pass because they second hand.
@@shonnieb2goodYou are making excuses for yourself. What makes clothes sustainable is something you can wear over and over and doesn’t just end up in landfills. More expensive clothing with better material is usually just that it’s durable so you can keep wearing it. Secondhand IS better because you are not directly supporting the company and are giving the clothes a full life. It’s truly not that hard to not buy from shein, Zara, h&m so what is everyone complaining about
@@shonnieb2good please do research on true secondhand & true vintage fashion. they are NOT manufactured by fast fashion companies or big clothing stores. head down to your local thrift store/charity shop and you will see what i mean. there’s no excuse to fund abuse.
