The SLK55 is the best car I've ever driven.
I'm taking a 360 Modena for a spin this weekend though so I'm guessing that'll all change.
I've pushed my SL55 pretty hard through the Sierra Nevada Mointains and up HWY 1 (North of San Francisco is so fun) and I've never had the roll bar self deploy. Guess I haven't been trying hard enough!
Old comment I know. You gotta get it to drift to make the roll bar deploy. Hard considering the TCS can't be turned off fully. It does allow for a bit of oversteer like in this vid. Just need to be really aggressive in corners lol.

Who's going to track their SLK. Is it sporty? Yes. Is it fast in a straight line? Yes. Does it sound amazing? Absolutely. Great car
1.) You can turn the ESP off completely.
2.) I'm 6'1" with a 77" reach, and my elbows have never gotten in the way. lol
Install a set of headers, reprogram the ECU, turn off the ESP and race again.

No I just seen in on the kleemann website, it does have a pretty large price tag but claims to add an extra 180hp.
you cant turn esp completely off even if you have it switched to off it still kicks in for boring safety reasons so no good for the track but better for novices on ordinary roads

If you will be rough-housing a SL on any track you may as well manually extend the roll bar so that you are not distracted by the Self deployment.

@PerzDVP Depends what model year you own. This video is old, Mercedes facelifted the car and improved it according to customers' feedback.
Also, the all new SLK is better balanced, but overall I don't think it is a match for the Porsche Boxster.

You can change gear on the back of the steering wheel on the slk55 amg like the SL.. well you can on mine. Its a completely different beast in M mode tbh.

Why is there a small woman test driving two testes of a car?? I own the SLK 55 and my dad has the SL... The SLK IS NOT uncomfortable, your arms do not bump into anything (use the telescopic steering wheel genius... The steering moves up and down, front and back, till you find the perfect position). Both great cars but I actually prefer the SLK, in the hands of a good driver its actually faster, sharper in corners and a lot more fun to drive, that feel that you are connected to the car.
You can turn of the TC in a garage mode setting!
Is hard to every men recognize that she drives better than all men that comment in this video!

Totally irrelevant comparison as you cannot drive like this on UK roads. Try driving the cars during rush hour in London, Manchester, Newcastle or the M25, that's the real driving experience for most people. MPG and servicing costs?

@aspersiosunil it's an emergency roll bar. ( bc without the roof on, when you flip, your head would be crushed.) rI had an older Mercedes sl and it even had one. i was pulling up to park on a small hill one time and it went off. it sounds like a gunshot in your ear. worst part is, you have to take it to a Mercedes dealership to have it reset. Soo, you look like and idiot riding around with a 1foot tall headrest till you get there LOL!!
